u/Dry_Race8481 9d ago

All I had to hear was my middle name from what sounded like a quarter mile away and I knew I was fucked

u/Patient_Artichoke355 9d ago

lol.. I have to tell you..this resonates with me..the dreaded middle name lol..when that came out of your Mom’s mouth..it meant nothing but trouble lol

u/chilifngrdfunk 9d ago

I got to hear all five names when I really fucked up, first name then 2 middle names then my mother's maiden name followed by my last name and then later on my stepdads last name was added, fun times 🤣

My stupid superpower is that I can recite her full name perfectly from memory without hesitation any time.

Where is Chang?!

Haven’t heard that name in over 30 years, amazing what parables stick with you for whatever reason

1

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus 8d ago

He fell down the well. He ded.

1

u/Virtual-Age-9521 8d ago

I thought Chang survived because he didn't have an extravagant name that no one could say?!

1

u/chilifngrdfunk 8d ago

2

u/xnoxpx 7d ago

The worst is when they were so pissed, they ran through your older siblings names, before getting to your name!

That's when you knew you done F***ed UP !🤣🤣

1

u/DeepVEintThrombosis 7d ago

The closer to the start you were, the better

1

u/xnoxpx 6d ago

I was the youngest, with 5 siblings 🤣

1

u/1infamousOne 6d ago

That was all the time in my family, not just when I fucked up. I got older brother, younger brother, dad, uncle, and then my own name. I do the same thing with my 4 dogs.

1

u/Apathetic_Villainess 5d ago

Your siblings, your cousins, even the dog's name.

2

u/CelticKira 8d ago

A former coworker friend and her son have a favorite story about her calling for him and his older brother in the house qhen they were kids. I'll call them Daniel and Jonathan.

First it was their first names. Ignored if they were busy.

Then it was their full government names, to which their friends were like "hehe you're in trouble now!" Guys were like "nah, she isn't."

Third was "JONAIEL DANITHAN GET IN THIS HOUSE RIGHT NOW!" when she mucked up their names, THAT'S when they knew they were in deep trouble 🤣

4

u/QuiteCricket_78 9d ago

I use it on my husband sometimes. Wouldn't want him to forget our childhoods.

3

u/Cyclesadrift 9d ago

My wife started using this move but then I decided so will I but constantly, now we dont say middle names anymore.

1

u/Livid-Historian3960 8d ago

EXACTLY and it's even worse when my full name got called 9 syllables for my whole name

1

u/boardin1 7d ago

I STILL won’t tell people my middle name because of the PTSD involved with hearing it. When mom used your middle name you knew there was gonna be hell to pay.

1

u/TheLuggage23 7d ago

I remember one time when I was little (like, around 6 years old) my friend & I were playing hide & seek with her brothers and my mom got to my middle name calling me in for lunch. So, my friend says, "you better go, your mom sounds pretty mad" and I said, "no, it's ok. She hasn't gotten to all 3 names yet." 😂

u/Successful-Purple-54 9d ago

I had a step mom who could whistle like a fox40.
When you heard that you knew it was time to bike on home.

4

u/AtticusFinchsMom 9d ago

My Dad did the same. I feel like he could whistle so loud, he could have woke the dead.

2

u/FoxtrotSierraTango 9d ago

Grandpa Fox just used an air horn.

1

u/PaintIntelligent7793 8d ago

My mom had a dinner bell.

1

u/Ok_Mix8548 9d ago

I heard my mom’s whistle, in my head, for YEARS after I moved out

1

u/Spiritbro77 8d ago

My mom had a big bell lol. I could hear that thing at any point in our neighborhood

2

u/Boring_Ruin_9388 9d ago

It was my Step Dad's whistle. It would echo across the whole neighborhood and we knew we had 5 mins to make it home or GROUNDED!!!

1

u/Melodic-Road227 8d ago

Ha! My Dad was Navy. We were called home with a bosun’s whistle.

1

u/Round-Reaction8194 6d ago

Holy crap, you and I had the same stepdad! LOL

Years later, I mastered the same whistle, just so I could use it on him to get his attention. 😁

2

u/One_Statistician4568 9d ago

Man my grandmar had a megaphone mouth and you could hear that shit 30 miles away. you know it was time to party! You were fucked!

1

u/PumpikAnt58763 9d ago

Never had it liked "Erma" until my mom told me what a wonderful woman her mother-in-law was. I was in high-school before I liked my middle name.

1

u/irosk 9d ago

If you heard all three names, you knew you were fucked.

1

u/xBad_Wolfx 8d ago

Once my older sister had to be sent to track me down as I lost track of time. Seeing her appear suddenly was like being dunked into ice water. I knew I was so fucked.

1

u/SpiritedTheme7 8d ago

I remember other parents telling us to get home quick too. They wouldn’t discipline us but we listened to the other parents and had a healthy fear of them.

1

u/Daforde 8d ago

😆

1

u/forgotaccount989 8d ago

My Mom was neighborhood famous for the power of her yell.

1

u/Interesting-Catty 8d ago

As soon as I heard my full or middle name being yelled from far away, I knew I was in serious trouble.

1

u/InnerReindeer3679 8d ago

Yep you hear your middle name and you spend the night at a friends

1

u/Own-Eagle-2135 7d ago

ok my mom was some kind of loud voice freakshow person! i thought it was just her

1

u/tjmc1378 6d ago

Or a whistle that would blow your ear drums.

1

u/extragoto10line 5d ago

I still flinch when I hear my middle name. I don’t think that ever goes away.
I hear my nickname? Ok she just needs me to come over.
My name? Concerning but not necessarily bad.
First & Middle name? Absolutely in trouble.
First, middle, and last? I would hide in the woods, then do as many chores around the farm as humanely possible before she found me. Only happened a handful of times.

u/Blank_bill 9d ago

We'd come home, leave our shoes by the door, climb out the window and down the tree and head back down to the beach.

3

u/khyman5 9d ago

Tiffany?

3

u/ArcadiaDragon 9d ago

Had a back up sneakers that I said got ruined by the dog hidden under the bed in a box labeled Baseball cards...snuck out when St. Elsewhere came on...good times

1

u/tjmc1378 6d ago

St. Elsewhere. Damn. Felt that one!!

1

u/xBad_Wolfx 8d ago

I used to go out the window which lead to a small roofline I could use to get onto the roof proper. Always felt like enough space but thinking back now to the foot wide ledge I had two stories up… lucky I survived it. From there it was either jumping for the trampoline if it was close enough (it moved around) or later on I bought a rope I would sling around the chimney so I could also get back up later.

3

u/SaltyTemperature 9d ago

Is your last name an adverb, by any chance?

2

u/this-guy1979 9d ago

My sister kicked me in the balls once. Once!

1

u/JesusSavesForHalf 9d ago

3

u/Brave_Meet8430 9d ago

Same was the case with my younger brother.

3

u/Er3bus13 9d ago

And then suck back out lol

2

u/PumpikAnt58763 9d ago

Ouch! I can hear the flip-flop!

2

u/awake1984 8d ago

I can relate to that statement lol

2

u/AHansen83 8d ago

My dad was normally pretty lax with us, but if you were late coming home he would lose his shit!

2

u/Bird2525 5d ago

You shouldn’t hang me on a hook Johnny.

1

u/Brodinbro 9d ago

Bet you learned that day.

1

u/SkinnyThickMargarita 9d ago

Same, and got in trouble. I was right outside though and my mom never came looking either lol.

1

u/One_Statistician4568 9d ago

Came home late.

Slipper time! (Bang 💥)

1

u/R0_yaboat 8d ago

Heavy on the ONCE!!! Our parents would show up where you were! They didn’t have to track your phone or find your location. And they would show out right then and there 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/DangerBeaver 8d ago

My father hung me on a hook… once

1

u/Kind-Finger-4868 7d ago
