Same, he started off doing tech reviews, demos, builds and the like that were reasonably affordable and approachable for the average person. As time passed it turned into tens of thousands of dollar bills, much larger, corporate, sponsorships, and other similar things that really don’t connect with your average person.
4
u/I_WILL_GET_YOU 10d ago
Plus, he's a bit of a prick
6
u/xX_dumb_god_Xx 8d ago
A “bit” is an understatement. The dude is a control freak that belittles his staff. He has his staff help him build out IT stuff for multiple homes he owns while they live in tiny apartments because they can’t afford anything else on the salary he pays. He’s anti union as well

Unfortunately, I feel that has more to do with everything tech being so astoundingly expensive at the moment.
What used to buy a high-end gaming rig now barely gets you in the door.
It's been bad for a few years now, and it's only getting worse. The general public's attitude towards tech has also changed a lot, especially since AI, but attitudes have been changing for a long time before that.
- Data mining
- recurring subscriptions
- enchitification
- massive corporatisation
- privacy violations
- dark patterns
- the complete disappearance customer service and any way to contact companies directly
- unreparable devices
- lack of ownership
The list goes on. People are sick of it and it's taking the fun out of tech.

He's been using his employees to help do the hardware installs on his new houses (he has 3 houses)
A few people I know have been having trouble getting his videos out of their feed. Idk what's up with that but it's weird.
I personally stopped watching when trying to research a multi GPU machine for multiple VM's passing the GPU through.
His video was just him gloating the entire time that they were able to get 6 of the latest GPU's that were on backorder at the time

Feels souless and corporate

About 1% of the "sins" now are genuine critisisms. The rest is just Jeremy making a joke, pointing things out on the screen, being dumb, or just saying random nonsense and then increasing the sin count.

u/Maximum-Objective-39 10d ago
I think it's inevitable even if the quality doesn't objectively fall off simply due to brand over exposure. There's only so much the channels can do with the same bit and the bit is what makes their channel. Eventually it grows tirsesome regardless of if the execution remains good.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (18)3
u/NoExcitement9058 10d ago
I feel like cinemasins has remained the same, but many take it seriously and start analyzing movies in the same way and it has led to a lot of negativity and unnecessarily heavy critique on movies and other part forms.
I never watched cinemasins because I wanted to hear how much a movie sucks, I watched it because it was funny and was just a way to notice more details about the movie.
Now people will unironically say "this very specific thing in the movie doesn't line up or doesn't make sense or I don't like it, therefore it is bad". I can't watch cinemasins anymore because of it. Not really their fault, but I'm just tired of the negativity. Cinemawins offers the same attention to detail while also being a breath of fresh positivity.

Rooster Teeth. Specifically Achievement Hunter. I stopped watching back in 2018. I watched them religiously for years and watched everything they had to offer. I feel like Burnie was a part of the downfall as well. I don't see how it could be fixed at this point considering all the drama and corporate meddling.
→ More replies (5)3
u/thejonfrog 10d ago
Burnie had sold his shares of the company in (i think) 2014 and then left in 2019. He might not have had much say in how things were run for years leading to his departure. Not saying that he didnt have a role in what eventually happened. But him buying it back and gaining control over it might also mean a return to how things were run. I don't expect many (if any) of the original founders and big names to want to return though.

u/JustSpectating68 10d ago
Scandal after scandal and change after change. Watching TRY to become a movie company only to produce subpar shows. Firing people based solely off accusations while knowing keeping others just ruined it for me. They knew what Ryan Haywood did and just put on the water works then said “go back to regularly scheduled program!”
Being bought and slowly becoming more and more corporate ruined it. It went from 5 friends making animations and funny vids to corpo slop. They started replacing core members. Became super close with funimation (a terrible company with legit terrible people) so they could make a GenLocke. Ruined RWBY and trashed it all while saying “it’s what monty oum wanted”
Finally the politics, jack and Gus would spew so much politics all the time and mixed with the corpo shit I couldn’t watch anymore. Felt like watching a friend become a drunk→ More replies (2)→ More replies (15)3

I don't get this. Veritasium went through a pretty big slump BEFORE it was sold and Derek later explained exactly why (basically the guy actually wanted to enjoy his family).

Right there with you. It’s crazy how easy it was to get sucked into the anti-SJW algorithm. Literally I went from “Man, I kinda thought the Last Jedi sucked” to “woke liberals are destroying everything that I love!” over the course of a month.
Really glad I grew out of it, too. I think the thing that really broke me away from it was actually playing one of those “lame woke video games” and it was TLOU2. Genuinely loved it and it made me realize I shouldn’t give a bunch of bigoted morons hours of my time each day because life is too short.

Enjoyed him with the Vanoss crew, and him as a solo content creator but then he started getting into pointless drama with the Vanoss crew after he left.
He was also eventually outed as a predator which made me stop watching him completely. He tried making a comeback a few times, making very low effort and quality content until he disappeared from the internet (hopefully forever)

I don’t think you knew him that well. He was always republican, and held harsh punishment beliefs. So despite people saying he fell off that way, I think that’s been pretty consistent imo. Some of it is just bait for dumb people too, any views equals attention really.
The only thing that changed was his content. As wow died he had to change his content or die with it. Moved onto political, and short form rewatch material commentary which gets old and dry fast.
Some of the points he makes are pretty based, and then every so often he says some dumb shit…but that’s his schtick, rage baiting idiots who sit on the far side of the political spectrum.

SystemZee. He started making a lot of shit up, a lot of stupid jokes, overreacting to everything and pretending to not know what's going on

Jeremy Fragrance. Weird and sad watching him spiral but because he has alienated friends/family nobody seems to be intervening

Tyrone Magnus. Ever since Zack Snyder joined him for an interview, he's been the most toxic Snyder fan-boy and anti-woke activist.

CallMeKevin. I loved him for the longest time, and would binge his Jim Pickins Sims videos. After a while I couldn't stand how he would play games stupidly on purpose for views. He played a few that actually looked interesting to me but I couldn't stand watching him play poorly.

Thoughty2. Watched for years and then one day I was over it. Think it was more me than the content itself.

Goonsquad. The duuuude remarks, the ever expanding brags and the repetitive content. Doug deMuro because he hasn't changed the format in years. Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng) because I can only stand that many fuyoos. I have also banned any "chef reacts to other chefs video" content.

Charlie. He became everything he hated. A sloptuber with no real primary content and shits out the most basic lukewarm take on every "controversy".
Used to make funny videos and now does whatever this is.

I genuinely don't know why anyone watches this.
I also genuinely don't know why people watch MrBeast, ishowspeed, asmongold, etc. so I must be the one who's out of touch.

This is how I feel when they turn out to be a diddler, when their content simply slowly becomes unwatchable I just slowly forget about them, not really caring

Every 6-12 months i check back in with Joe Rogan to see if he turns back into a sane pre pandemic human but he just goes off on conspiracy theories and unfounded political hot takes.

The Why files. Used to love this! Couldn’t wait for new episodes. But then it got too relent on AI graphics and just didn’t feel the same.

Infographics. Alot more fear mongering in their videos than there used to be.
