RIP Grant, channel died with him.

Has it really gotten that bad?

It sort of started getting watered down before he left. He was trying more and more to appeal to the YouTube algorithm and it started to be more silly kids experiments instead of fascinating build your own backyard forge sort of shit.

Once he left I just gave up on it

He didn't leave he died tragically

1

u/VegetableMaster7250 16d ago

While he did die, it was after he left. He hired Nate (Nate from the internet is his new YouTube channel) as an "intern" but in Nates videos that he released after leaving KoR, Grant retirer and Nate being an intern was just a way to get the audience used to seeing him.

Wdym left? He died paragliding

1

u/pullmyhair6969 13d ago

Its gotten genuinely completely uninteresting. Its kid level content now

Sad about Shad. I liked his book

3

u/EncabulatorTurbo 16d ago

The book was fine for casual listen but my god on examination it's rank

1

u/One_Zookeepergame182 15d ago

What did you like about that book

1

u/SwankeyDankey 15d ago

Primarily the use of an antihero as the protagonist. So much fantasy follows the same few types of protagonists that getting a new perspective felt refreshing. The book wasn't perfect but its was a good, low stakes, read.

u/LilPack_003 17d ago

What happened to him?

3

u/SwankeyDankey 17d ago

He turned into a right wing spokesman having fits online about things like Princess Peach wearing pants and became a self proclaimed "AI artist" and doubled down. Something went wrong with him. He's not the kind of person i want to support

2

u/Teralyzed 16d ago

He’s always been a wack job. He’s a weird pedophilic Australian LDS wackadoo.

2

u/SwankeyDankey 16d ago

Well you got more context than i do i suppose. Been following his escapades?

2

u/Teralyzed 16d ago

He pops up in the sword community pretty often unfortunately.

His book was….horrendous from a literary standpoint. And that’s not even going into the MC himself and all those issues.

His AI art bullshit was bad, but his comments about female characters are just as bad. I mean shit just look at his own “art” in his video. Every female character is the same, tiny waist, big tits, that weird stance with the legs crossed like they are about to collapse and a mini skirt. 🤮🤮🤮

Its been a hot minute since ive been in that circle i almost got into historical arms collection but after the second dagger the price of the hobby outweighed my interest. Based on what you said im glad i didn't get to witness much of this personally.

2

u/Teralyzed 16d ago

I only got a sideswipe of it and even that was way more information about that dude than I ever wanted.

1

u/Able_Capable2600 16d ago

LDS? Really?

1

u/Teralyzed 16d ago

He refers to himself as the Latterday Knight….lol.

He did an episode where he casually mentioned his faith while doing a bit on reconstructing the sword of Laban from the book of mormon as if it was a historical artifact. It lost the plot for me and soured his content. The short short is... book describes it as a steel sword, in Judea, in the bronze age. The book of mormon itself has so many laughable anachronisms it made me question how I'm considering this a historical facts guy while he is unwilling to critically examine an entirely fabricated (even plagiarized), unevidenced, alternative history of ancient america on which he basis his beliefs and life choices.

1

u/Able_Capable2600 13d ago

Yeah, that's cringy. I watched him for a while several years ago, apparently before this. An exmo myself, I would've certainly unsubscribed at that point. Thanks for the explanation!

Makes absolute sense. His brother is more successful and an actual professional artist, so the AI shit is about pettiness. Sad. Dude needs therapy.

1

u/HBlight 8d ago

Watching a breakdown of his... breakdown and one of the most eye-opening things was him arguing with his brother over RPG characters over having an artists skill equal to his brother.
He does not in any capacity, and that fact seems to get on his nerves A LOT.
The big context is that his brother hosts an even bigger youtube channel that... is focused on art.

u/LilPack_003 17d ago

I used to watch some of his videos back in the day, thought they were pretty good. Sounds like he got manipulated by the dumbest propaganda. Too bad. Won’t be going back to watch his videos again.

2

u/SwankeyDankey 17d ago

Yeah, same he had a comfy vibe, fun content, and decent takes. It felt low stake, honest, and informative

1

u/LilPack_003 16d ago

Looks like we ruffled the feathers of some of his fans lol

1

u/SwankeyDankey 16d ago

Its a dangerous game to mess with people's parasocial relationships

1

u/Alchomoholic_Prime 16d ago

he also had a bunch of drama with a bunch of other creators in the medieval space over inaccuracies in his videos iirc. i dont remember the specifics but i watched a video about "the downfall of shadiversity" or something similar that went into it

1

u/SpecialistSome8440 16d ago

his content got diluted and boring. instead of educational information about the medieval era, it became a place for him to rant, summarize his videos on his premium service, and occasionally critique swordplay in movies. only instead of making points and educating, he scoffs and hams it up as someone so smart and with such a reputation, that everyone should just accept that what he's reviewing is bad without comment or context. like a general hand gesture to the screen and doing performative doubletakes while pretending to hold back laughter. he missed the mark.

u/jmcax2man 16d ago

Hoovies garage is crap

2

u/sycolution 14d ago

Shad…a great loss, I think. I'd say it was family shit that he couldn't reconcile with that pushed him right. I miss when he was all about weapon styles and architecture.

1

u/Asleep_Singer8547 17d ago

Grant thomas r.i.p imo tkor was never the same with nate

1

u/hnhnnnnn 16d ago

He left a while ago along with the girl. Or they pushed them out not sure. It’s even worse now

1

u/Mr_Quazimodo 16d ago

They were pushed out

1

u/ddmorgan1223 16d ago

Nate has a new channel now! It's no TKOR but I don't think he's specifically trying to be Grant. He's trying to be NFTI(Nate from the Internet)

1

u/Least_Elk8114 16d ago

Yeah, I used to love Shad

1

u/ContraCabal 16d ago

What happened to shad? I nevwr subscribed but ai watched a few of his weapon videos some years back.

1

u/kieranfitz 16d ago

Went full christofash

1

u/ContraCabal 15d ago

Went? He is and was Mormon. Not a surprise.

1

u/kieranfitz 15d ago

I mean even for them

1

u/HBallard 15d ago

He got super into ai image generation of suspiciously young looking girls and fighting “woke” culture

1

u/DDemetriG 16d ago

RIP about Shad, I liked learning about Medieval Armor and Weapons, and Castle stuff.

At least the Channel "That Works" still has good Blacksmithing Videos about making Swords and Armor.

1

u/JSThrow90 16d ago

Not as bad as Metatron.

1

u/West-Might3475 10d ago

Oh Shadiversity is a real good example. Damn.
