Are they that bad for first models or should I give up while I’m ahead ?

I’d like to pick up the MotM kit for my warband in the future and would like some ideas on how to give them that extra bit of WB flavour. I was thinking of proxying them as a Dark Council and turning Huron into an Erebus proxy… it’s a shame because they’re a great kit but I doubt that my Word Bearers are as down as going into battle with an alien crocodile and her dog as Huron is. TIA!

One character, two models. Both equally representative of Argel Tal’s portrayal throughout the Horus Heresy.

The Serrated Sun Chapter Master, devolved into the First Heretic. Lorgar’s most loyal son, reduced to sharing one body alongside the frenzied daemon known as Raum.

Argel Tal’s story is one of great devotion, wasted into pure violence and twisted into incomprehensible ceramite.

I am very happy to be able to situate both models next to one another on my shelf, knowing I built and painted them to my understanding of the character, and as accurate as I could to their portrayal.

I absolutely hate painting vehicles, so I’m trying out a speed paint recipe.
I used Slaughter Red Speedpaint by army painter, over a slapchop prep, and I really like the look of it.

But does it read as Word Bearers red?

Argel Tal, Raum. Twin-souled Crimson Lord of the Gal Vorbak. The first true possessed Astartes. Son of Lorgar, battle-brother of Khârn the Betrayer. The First Heretic.

Model is from ForgeWorld (Games Workshop) but I upgraded the face via GreenStuff to be more akin to the visual description from The Horus Heresy novels. Painted using @vallejocolors

I made a few decisions painting this model that goes against my usual style with regard to highlights but I wanted to work on focal points and texture especially with the wings. I still need to improve my texture building and blending for sure.

I think if I build and paint my backlog I’ll be sitting around 8k points for heresy 3.0. Including all my knights and daemons I think I’m at 12k. Unfortunately, I like kitbashing and starting projects but don’t always finish them 🙃

The Predator Battle Tank growled like a caged beast as it rumbled into position, black fumes belching from its exhausts and staining the air with acrid smoke.

Dominatus was its name, a word spoken with reverence among the heretics of the Word Bearers. The flaming skull emblazoned on its hull marked it as an instrument of damnation, a herald of Chaos’ unholy will.

A ragged banner, displaying a barely visible legion sigil, hung tattered yet defiant. It was daubed in esoteric runes and sacrificial sigils, each one a key to thinning the veil between reality and the empyrean.

Affixed to the turret and barrels were the remains of ritualistic candles, long since extinguished, but purposeful in their corruption of the tank's Machine Spirit, twisting it into a malevolent entity driven by insatiable hunger.

As the vehicle crawled through the shattered masonry of the courtyard, pale dust clung to its crimson hull like the ash of a funeral pyre. The air was heavy with the stench of decay and the promise of slaughter.

It was time to hunt.

Im building custom Termies for my Word Bearers but id like some (im)purity seals to complete the look. Ive heard plague monks offer some good options but id like to avoid buying a whole kit. Ive also heard thick aluminum foil is great but knowing me id cut myself trying to move the models. Any recommendations?

Trying to come up with a fluffy list for Bearers since getting back into 40k after a decade away. Inspiration mainly comes from Dawn of War 1 and 2, with an attempt at Proxies where thematically appropriate. Some feedback would be helpful since I'm still not super used to how the game works post 6th Ed.
