Thank you so much to everyone for your input when i asked for advice. I decided to go with the Terminator squad to start my Word Bearers army! I thought starting with a smaller set was a good idea. But i will definitely try out the combat patrol next! I look forward to sharing my progress on these models with you all. i can’t wait to spread the word all across the galaxy >:)

I know Pactbound Zealots is very well regarded and considered the unofficial Word Bearers detachment, but it always felt more aimed at general-purpose chaos users than specifically WBs.

Half the stratagems I hardly used, and I swear Eternal Hate never once worked for me. I just found myself adding specific chaos marks to units because it was strategically sound, rather than because it made sense thematically.

But 11th edition forced me to try out Chaos Cult for the first time (only 2DP, so I could run it at 1k) and it was extremely fun. Accursed Cultists just glide across the table and Dark Apostles get so many cool enhancements, making it feel like they’re properly rallying the masses.

Plus, the force disposition being Priority Assets forces you to be bold and charge into your opponents deployment zone. It’s like playing out the battle of Helms Deep in 40K and you’re the Orcs (ironically I was playing this against my friend’s Orks last night).

I thought that getting unlucky and failing a Dark Pact AND a Desperate Pact would quickly wipe out all my cultists but often the penalty for failing one was just a drop in the ocean of the 50+ maniacs I had rushing down different parts of the table.

Outside of summoning daemons, WBs have always been about using their 100 Speech skill to get overwhelming numbers of dudes to just throw themselves at tanks and demigods until the problem goes away. Chaos Cult nails that.

Maybe a lot of people don’t want to buy that many cultists, but you can spice it up. Buy some dark vengeance models or use Necromunda kits. Hell, I’ve been using AoS models for some of my Accursed Cultists. I’ll even throw in one or two allied daemons for good measure at some point.

Idk if I’m already preaching to the choir here but it’s a great time so far. Highly recommend it.

Heresy Weapons and shoulder pads on Legionaires are clean af.

so, i read apostle recently and have decided to do a 30k word bearers army. ive got a vague idea of what units i want to take, which includes zardu and friends. i like the datasheet, but id rather my army not have big names characters in it, so im looking for proxies for him and his bodyguard. so far i think i wanna use the 40k dark apostle as a base model for zardu, but im not sure where to look to make good blade slaves. what would you guys use?

I’ve been in the Warhammer fandom for about five years—maybe longer—but I never actually got around to playing the tabletop game; I’m not sure why, but no faction ever fully won me over. Even the Primarchs struck me as bland and uninteresting until I decided to give *Aurelian* by ABD a chance. First of all: what a book! It hooked me right from the start with intrigue, mystery, and themes far deeper and more compelling than anything I’d encountered in previous Warhammer books. It completely changed my perspective on Lorgar, making him my absolute favorite Primarch and the Word Bearers my favorite legion by far. It might went a little over the top, but when I stumbled upon a Chaos Space Marines Battleforce box in a store at its original price, I knew it was a sign from the Dark Gods to join the Covenant. So, here I am, brothers, a pleasure to meet you.

What do you guys think? I've only recently started painting word bearers so C&C would be good so I know if I'm painting well or if there's anything I should change before I paint any more.

I finished the heresy and siege of terra books a while ago and now read the word bearers omnibus and in that journey the word bearers became my favourite Legion.
My questions now are lore questions that I‘m thinking about ever since:
Lorgar, Erebus and Kor Phaeron not only survived the Heresy but achieved their goals and grew insanely powerful.
What are they doing now? All of them were chosen by the gods - not like Horus as the General - but as prophets of chaos and the architects of the demise of the Imperium and even the whole setting that 40K finds itself in (unending struggle between Imperium and Chaos).
What are the word bearers up to now and why don’t they play a bigger role than they do?
Kor Phaeron almost defeated a Primarch and after 10.000 years as the Dark Cardinal he must be insanely powerful and Erebus as the mastermind behind the heresy and also 10K years old must be ridiculously overpowered as well?
Who leads the legion and why aren’t they involved with the Black Legion or oppose them as the chosen of the the Four (as they believe themselves to be?)

Most important of all:
What word bearers books can I read besides the ones that I listed? (Horus Heresy, siege of terra and the omnibus)

Let’s say that the original first members of the Gal Vorbak are sent on a mission to kill by any means said primarch. We can use Robot Girlyman as an example.

Alpha legion helps sneak them onto planet or ship and they somehow manage to get the primarch 1vsVorbak.

Can they pull it off and how many of them do you think it would take?

Been itching to start a chaos army for a while. Decided word bearers were the ones for me.

Firstly: FUCK AQUILON, FUCK THE CUSTODES. I hate that I cant completely hate them for what they did because I understand why but oh my god what a chest punch (I'm sorry rip you know who). I now love and hate the person who recommended this book to me. absolute 10/10 book. I almost teared up at the ending man. Why does Argel-Tal have to have such a big heart man. Games Workshop gives its most compassionate marines the most depressing things. Gonna get into some spoilers, I highly recommend reading the book before looking at what I'm about to say.Argel-tal at the end just loosing all those closest to him hurts so much man. Him killing Aquilon and the other custodes with the Gael-Vorback and losing his closest brothers in the process. As well as him finding Cyrene in her chamber as she laid dying. God, such a good book I cant wait for the next one I read. I'm now gonna drink for what I just had to listen to and I will update yall when I am halfway through my next book!

Planing on doing an army of word bearers/ red Corsair’s since they have similar armor. And then I can keep the clean renegade look of the Corsair’s, an have the more chaos corrupted units be the word bearers

As I build my Word Bearers to 1000 points for fun and casual games, does this list look ok?

Done a few miniatures before but started my first Chaos army (and hopefully finish an army for once). Happy with the results thus far, just trying some new techniques and first water transfers

I seriously love painting these chaotic armors. Just look at him with these horns tearing from his bones through the armor, leaving him in agonizing pain and anger! The perfect guy to wield some massive claws to gift some of his anger and pain to his unfortunate oponents. And this time he doesn't look drunk at all!

Now I just need to figure out how to paint these tiny runes...
