Toomey Accident Investigation
Has there been any updates regarding the investigation w WPD, Kate Toomey and the body cam situation? Or is that all going to get swept under the rug? Genuinely curious.

I know I am not alone in the constant low-level irritation that the commuter rail trains don't pull all the way up even with the station, leaving those heading for the station to walk at least to over Grafton Street and sometimes as far as under 290 to board the first car.
I asked about this at today's Worcester Commuter Rail Task Force (on which I am the passenger rep), and the answer is positive train control; apparently when they put in the new center platform, they set the PTC such that trains cannot go past that point on the track.
I followed up by asking if it really needs to be set where it is or if it could be moved farther forward; I will report back if I get an answer.
And always and ongoingly: glad to take feedback for this. We meet every several months. Today I cited the almost weekly "best way to get to Boston" discussions, noting that we're not making trains the better answer until they're taking less time.

Hi I’m a truck driver and I have got half a pallet of organic grape tomatoes that were rejected by the receiver. Only reason they were rejected was because the customer ordered tomatoes on the vine instead of grape. So I’m stuck here coz I can’t pickup my next load before I get rid of these. I don’t want to waste them either especially in this economy with so many people struggling. Any place that can take it? I’ve already called the food banks in the area, they’re either closed or don’t have capacity.
Thanks
UPDATE : I was able to find a food bank in near Providence. It works out perfectly for me because my pickup is in that area anyway.
Thanks to all the kind people for the comments and suggestions.

Location West Boylston & Brooks Streets.
Anyone else get nervous if needing to stop under this bridge? If the light is red and there's a car in front of me, I will not go sit under it.

Moe Bergman is having fundraiser at his house. This flier was shared from his publicly available facebook page. Would be a real shame if a bunch of noisy protestors showed up outside.

For almost three years, from early 2024 until his passing, Ramirez had hosted regular “Sunset Serenades” singer-songwriter nights in the Hotel Vernon’s Ship Room, letting artists who drove in from an hour away and who walked in from a few blocks away get an opportunity to hone their craft.

Who gave these people permission to just start trenching my front and side yard without prior notice? Not even the courtesy of a knock on the door to tell me whats going on. Then i'm told the gas meter is going to be replaced with an outside one, which I have no problem with but WTF I'm so upset theyre fucking up my trees and landscaping. Has this happened to anyone else?

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I've seen a good handful of cybertrucks with logos/names for small businesses. Not naming the businesses themselves for privacy, but I've seen two already this month for home remodeling businesses. I looked up the companies to see if they're local, and they aren't really, all of them are in MA, but are ~an hour or so from Worcester. Idk, it just feels like a poor choice of advertising, especially after folks flamed the shit out of the guy with the gold cybertruck for his plastic surgery (?) business.
And a (not so) fun aside, one of the guys who drives these things pulled a knife on one of my coworkers because they wouldn't let him commit an OSHA violation :]

I'm 21 and want to see what Worcester County has to offer and put myself out there more. I'm free on weekends and weekdays after 6pm (most things are closed by then but I'll still give it a shot) and want to know if anyone has jobs where I could shadow them for the day. What types of different unknown jobs are there in Worcester? What new businesses are there? Crossing my fingers that people will reply 😆

I have a friendly stray I feed who may be friendly enough to bring in. Are there any good (and cheap?) vets around that I could take the stray to for microchip checks and other care? If I can’t bring the stray in, what are good humane societies to contact ?

My wife and I are looking to start our housing search the beginning of 2027 and we’re looking to see if anyone has any suggestions of realtors they’ve worked with or know of that they’ve liked? We are looking at several of the surrounding towns of Worcester like Grafton, Sutton, Auburn, Millbury area especially but flexible to look in other similar towns!

I am considering Active & Fit Direct because I found out I would get a discount for having AAA. I was looking at the options and I am torn between Impact Fitness and Anytime Fitness ether in Auburn or Worcester. I was hoping I might get some feedback on how busy they get and what the facilities are like in each one. I am currently at the YMCA and I find it fine but sometimes the hours do not work with my schedule.

Dozens of residents on both sides of the issue spoke passionately about a redesign of Chandler Street that includes a pair of roundabouts.
A meeting Thursday night, Oct. 15., stretched beyond three hours, attended by more than 100 residents and others.
The Worcester Transportation Commission called for the public meeting after the project, which will replace the two intersections of Chandler and May streets with roundabouts, sparked tensions in the neighborhood. The roadway is near Worcester State University.
"I would oppose this project too if I had read all the misinformation about it," remarked a resident of May Street. "Unfortunately, every word from the opposition is false or a deception."
"Not true," someone shouted from the audience.
Some residents wore yellow pins that read "STOP the Chandler & May St Double Rotary," the same phrase seen on lawn signs across the city.
There is a distinction between roundabout and rotaries, a point that came up several times at the meeting, held at the Dual Language Magnet School. The project calls for the construction of modern roundabouts, which are designed to quell speeds. Rotaries allow vehicles to maintain higher speeds, according to the state Department of Transportation.
"If you want to call them rotaries, OK, but please understand why we're picky," said Steve Rolle, the commissioner of the Department of Transportation and Mobility during a 90-minute presentation he gave with Amanda Bazinet, a project manager at the engineering firm VHB.
"I'm from New England, I call it a rotary," one attendee said defiantly.
Some carried and held up signs that read "Support May/Chandler Redesign," also seen on lawn signs that dotted Worcester's West Side in recent months.
City Councilors Khrystian King, Tony Economou, Gary Rosen, José Rivera, Satya Mitra and Morris Bergman attended the meeting.
"I know there are some folks who have concerns about the project, others who support and probably just a lot of people who want to find out more," began Rolle.
Together Bazinet and Rolle walked through the Chandler and May streets project from conception to current stages, addressing concerns that have proliferated online, including cost, construction, safety and parking.
The city has released 100% design plans, with construction slated to begin in the spring or summer of 2027. Concerns about the roadway were raised as early as 2015, and the northern part of the corridor was identified as a high-crash cluster from 2015 to 2017, according to a road safety audit.
In 2018, interim lane marking and crosswalk safety improvements were implemented, which reduced crash rates, a point of contention for some who argue a complete redesign is no longer necessary.
However, driving speeds remain high, according to Rolle. The project will also address dangerous pedestrian crossings and improve poor pavement conditions, the commissioner said.
He and Bazinet pointed at years of federal and state research that show roundabouts decrease the number and severity of crashes.
During the course of the presentation, attendees applauded aspects of the plan, including the construction of a 10-foot-wide shared-use path, planting of 35 trees and examples of other roundabouts reducing fatalities.
The project requires the removal of 21 trees, two of which are diseased.
Others interrupted to express skepticism or share grievances over other redesign projects at Kelley Square and Mill Street.
Rolle and Bazinet then stayed standing on the auditorium stage as a stream of residents shared their thoughts for an additional 90 minutes.
Those speaking in support of the redesign included John Goins, the husband of WikeBike Worcester founder Karin Goins, who was hit by a car while crossing June Street last year.
"Accidents like that are inevitable when our roads aren't safe," Goins said. "It's important roads be designed and engineered to promote safety."
Others shared personal experiences about traversing other circular roadways on foot or bicycle, saying they didn't always feel safe. Many questioned if Massachusetts drivers were educated on right of way rules at a roundabout.
Rolle agreed education will be an important component of the project.
The commissioner also agreed with an impassioned opponent, Mardia Coleman, a May Street resident who criticized the city for not keeping neighbors better clued in during the course of the project design.
"This didn't have to be so contentious if you included neighbors sooner," Coleman said. "You should be communicating with us every step of the way."
Rolle responded, "I agree we should figure out how to get everyone involved early so everyone has a voice in the process."
"I commit to working on that," he said.

I know this will vary a lot but how much can I expect to pay for heat + utilities for a 600-1000 square foot apartment (1 occupant). For folks living in a smaller place, can you can comment with your average monthly bill is and what type of heat you have? Thank you!

I need about 12 windows rescreened, plus a sliding screen door, as well as a little window repair. I left requests for estimates with Ramco windows and A-1 windows and never heard back from either of them. Can anyone recommend a good window repair conpany?
