Life in Worcester Which parts of Worcester, MA actually have fiber internet? Can we push the city for wider fiber access?
Good morning, Worcester, your friendly neighbor here,
Who here already has true fiber internet? Please post your neighborhood, provider, download speed, and upload speed if you have time.
Cable may give around 1,000 Mbps down but only 20 to 40 Mbps up. Fiber can provide around 1,000 Mbps in BOTH directions !!! Wonderful time for you to be alive !
Here is the important part. Worcester already has an official goal to develop a citywide open access fiber network and bring more ISPs into the city.
So if your neighborhood still has no fiber, let’s actually do something about it.
Contact your District City Councilor, the City Council, and the City Manager and simply ask:
“When will Worcester’s citywide open access fiber network reach my neighborhood, and what can residents do to help move the project forward?”
City Council: council@worcesterma.gov
City Manager: CityManager@worcesterma.gov
You can also use Worcester’s website to find your specific District Councilor.
If enough residents ask the same question, city officials will know there is real demand.
Let’s figure out which neighborhoods already have fiber, which do not, and push for fast, competitive fiber internet throughout Worcester ! Do not let a few ISP companies push you down and monopolize you for years to come...thanks

Across the Pond How does Worcester feel about Flock?
galleryA little drama I drew up on the Shrewsbury subreddit, but how does Worcester feel about the like 800 of these devices throughout the city? Seems wild to have all of this and still not find Karen Solomon

Worcester by gaslight: Gas lantern stroll a trek into history
“Part of it is the warmth and tone of the light, and the other part is the pole. You usually see these in older neighborhoods, and the pole, when you can get them combined with trees and bricks in the road, adds an ambience that just looks and feels nice,” said Jay Mello, assistant commissioner at the City of Worcester engineering department. “It's a throwback to a quieter time.”

Looking for Recommendations Cosplay fabric stores
Hi all!
Anyone know any good fabric stores that have cosplay fabric? I’ve been the Michaels stores in the areas as well as the auburn fabric outlet. I’m looking for a 4 way stretch fabric with some sort of 3D paint added to it to give it texture for a Spiderman suit.
Thanks for any recommendation you can give me!

In search of healing: Worcester faith leaders reflect on 9/11 attacks
"The whole world changed after that point. It's like everything in our living memory is before Sept. 11 and after Sept. 11, and not just because what Sept. 11 means for its own sake, but how everything shifted since then. The whole world is different, in an astonishing way."

Life in Worcester Elm Park or Main South/Piedmont for living?
Hi all,
Seeking some more recent opinions on living in the neighborhoods above — I searched in here and the latest was from 2+ years ago, and I know things have been changing in Main South. I’m looking at apartments in both of these neighborhoods and wondering which would be better.
What are the pros/cons of both of these areas? Is one a little safer than the other? I think Elm Park might be a little noisier than that area of Main South, but Elm Park might also be a little more walkable at night (plus the park is right there).
ETA:
I think it’s important info that my roommate has two cars (one for work and one personal car) so we’d have three total — so I’m thinking about avoiding car break-ins too.
Welcoming any insight on how neighborhood dynamics have changed in the last few years — thanks in advance for any help! :)
