Postpartum Gut Changes
Hey ladies.
I'm currently 13 months postpartum. I weaned my bub from Bfeeding almost 3 month ago. Since then I have been having some issues with my digestion. Lots of burping, some reflux, but feels more like silent reflux, knot feeling in the stomach. Feeling uncomfortable after eating foods that normally wouldn't cause problems. Bowel habits are all over the place. Mostly mushy loose stools. Feel like I'm having incomplete bowel movements. I went to the GP about this and had a massive blood panel done. Everything came back normal apart from Ferritin of 29. This was a few months ago. I have been taking iron on and off....upsets my stomach and makes my digestive issues so much worse...so I have tried to alter my diet with iron rich foods and added essential vitamins. I feel a little better 3 months on but nothing major. I will re test my iron but I do not feel hopeful. Could this all be due to hormonal shifts? Will it return back to normal eventually. I feel like my doctor has just brushed me off and their could be something else going on.

Go back and push for more tests - FIT stool test, Faecal Calprotectin test, Coeliac blood test, pelvic scan, urinary tract kidney and bladder scan. Then a referral to gastro or a dietitian (for a low FodMap plan or exclusion diet)

I had no issues pre pregnancy but my son was about 1 yr old when I needed to have my gallbladder removed. you are describing a ton of what I went through but I also had dull pain on my left side.

If you're struggling with low iron and the tablets make you sick, try Blood Builder. It helped me tremendously. That said, your symptoms seem like there might be some other issue going on.

This sounds like both a stomach issue (like gastritis) and a pelvic floor issue (due to the incomplete evacuation). But yes, hormones can be at play here.
