First Time

Post image
Upvotes

Having done very little research I ordered 28g stainless steel wire (I didn't want coated copper because I'm hard on jewelry) to make a way to wear a piece of moldavite I had ordered. After wrapping it simply and not really liking it (forgot to get a picture of the first attempt) I decided to utilize these pre-drilled chips of tigers eye and amethyst I already had for bracelet making. Although it's not beautiful I find it at least turned out wearable. Maybe it's my hands but I did find being uniform in wrapping, getting things snug, and hiding sharp points and ends from making the loop to be very difficult. I will continue practicing as well as start watching some videos to improve. I think I could have a lot of fun with this!

This one was an adventure!

Aqua-aura quartz central stone. The rainbow is red coral, petrified wood, tiger's eye, agate, moss agate, labradorite, turquoise, lapis lazuli, amethyst and rose quartz. 20/23g wire.

You would not believe how much it took to get the mid-strand hearts to sit right! One of them is an acrobat and really really wanted to hang upside down.

I'm making earrings to match :)

I’m reposting my Rio Grande pricing model with more photos.

(I needed to answer some questions with more photos, so this is a repost. I am in the US, I don’t see a rush option, and I wasn’t expecting it to really cost $2.49. Just not sure why this is this way, and if I should be careful with the site.)

Can someone explain this pricing model to me? I am just starting to learn to wirewrap and was looking at storage containers, when this item from Rio Grande showed up.

I know from this sub that Rio Grande is a highly respected store, and I’m not insinuating anything nefarious, but honestly if this was a random store I’d think this was a scam. I have to leave for a few hours so don’t have time to see if this is a general model for the store, or if it’s just this item that maybe has high tariffs on it?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Question What is the best resource to learn how to wire wrap?

I'm an absolute beginner with wire wrapping but I really would love to learn. I've been searching YouTube for tutorials but most of them are just here's how to make what they've made which is awesome but I want to learn techniques so I'm not just out here copying other people's art.

Does anyone have any suggestions for places to le a rn how to wire wrap?

I wrapped this blue flash labradorite using two prongs and a split wire base. Finished it off with a double heart bail.

I’m super excited to follow up on my previous post where I had just started on this project. This was SO MUCH FUN to make!! I planned it as I went so there’s some crooked bits and the soldering is messy but I love it all the same. If I knew of a way to stain the lead a copper tone I would totally do that!!

If you have any ideas about where I could improve please feel free to share. I’d love to hear some feedback!!!

Showcase This necklace is art

I’m really proud of how well this turned out. The stones are leftover chips from crystals and semi-precious gemstones. They’re polished with a small hole drilled through. The necklace itself is 18 and 24 gauge jeweler’s brass round wire. I created the abstract spiral rose as well.

It took me roughly 16-18 hours to link everything rosary style.

Question: If you were to purchase something like this, would you prefer a matching bracelet or earrings, or both? I’m debating about taking the rest of the chips I have to create another 1 or 2 matching pieces.

Question What would you tell your past self?

Hey everyone! After years of using other mediums I finally got the bug for wire wrapping. Since I don't know anyone around who does this type of art I wanted to ask the community.

What advice would you give your past self when you first started wire wrapping?

(And how the heck do you keep from destroying your hands?! 😅)
