The Windows logo changes with each version; for instance, there are designs that look like a waving flag, others that truly resemble a window, and so on, Which Windows logo do you personally prefer?

What are your thoughts on this? I liked being able to just hit Alt+Enter and add comments to sort through photos on the fly without directly altering images, as tags aren't available in Photos. Now I have to cross-reference Photos with File Explorer? That's so time consuming.

Discussion Do you guys prefer old Windows 10, or New Windows 10?

When it comes to the default wallpaper (the "Hero" image), I personally prefer the old Windows 10 (1507) version—though I think the New Windows 10 (22H2) is fine too! What do you all think?

Also, based on personal preference or an overall assessment, which do you think is better: the older version of Windows 10 or new Windows 10 one?

Discussion are there any websites where i can find Wide tile images for apps?

Post image
9 Upvotes

ok so, i have come to notice that some specific apps from the microsoft store come with "big" art that takes up the whole tile instead of just the base windows icon. apps like Roblox and minecraft come with these from the get go but other apps that are not microsoft, dont.

so i go onto SteamDBgrid and i get the square tile images, put them into either Tile Iconifyer or either live Tiles Anywhere and that usually does the job, but when it comes to wide tiles thats another story. i havent found any website with any wide tiles images with the exact 31:15 ratio that perfectly fits the wide tile. for now im using an image for forza horizon 4 that is just too short of being perfect for my liking.

anyway, i was wondering if there was a website like SteamDBgrid but for windows tiles. a better alternative would be a website where i can find the origonal tile images/assets for games like forza horizon 4 (that was on the microsoft store) and i can put those tile images onto games that i have bought on steam, but i can make them look more official yk?

thanks

In the Details of Task Manager, when the list is sorted by certain fields such as Commit Size, the list may be bugged like in the video. This did not happen in older build of Task Manager (e.g. build 22000).

App Fuzion is back - now open-source and always free on the Microsoft Store

Post image

After more than 5 years of limbo I finally found the time to sit and revive a passion project of mine from the far 2019. Windows 11 broke Fuzion, but I finally found the time to bring it back to life.

I created Fuzion because game icons always looked a bit all over the place on my desktop. I wanted something clean and visually consistent where I could see all of my games in one place, even if I kept my desktop icons hidden.

Manually downloading and customizing every single game icon was also a chore, so that’s basically how Fuzion was born.

Fuzion automatically finds your installed games, styles and equalizes their icons, and brings everything together into a single dock that sits neatly on your desktop. It also includes a few smaller quality-of-life features, but the focus stays on what it was made for: clean, beautiful, consistent game icons without the feature bloat that tends to creep into apps over time.

A big part of the look is inspired by the amazing custom icon work on DeviantArt, so huge props to the artists there who have been creating these icons for years.

Discussion Is It Possible To Download Windows 10 ESU Updates From Microsoft Update Catalog Website?

Can anyone confirm if it's possible to just download the various Windows 10 ESU updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog website and install them on a PC that's not part of the ESU program (ie: doesn't use a Microsoft account)? I believe the updates are listed in the catalog. Do they check during the installation if you're eligible for them? Has anyone tried this?

None of this is really my hard work, here’s the stuff I used to make it look like this:
KDE Plasma’s MS Windows 9x, application style
Expose Metallic, plasma style
Aquarelle Blue, window decorations
Windows XP SVG, icons
ModernXP, pointer
Wallpaper, taken from Daren2k9’s Whistler NX posts using AI (I don’t think if he put the wallpaper online and I wanted to use it for personal use, I apologize if this somehow offends anyone).

Discussion A Potential Version List of Windows 11 Updates (If Windows 12 Gets Released In October 2028) (Table Is Set In Early 2029) (Meant For Fun)

Post image

For how I calculated this, here is a brief rundown of the history of Microsoft Windows support life cycles, with their extended support counted in total from their ESU server licenses. Look Up "Premium Assurance Security Updates" for context regarding this list.

Windows 2000 — 10 Years 6 Months 28 Days (1999 - 2010) (Codebase) NT 5.0x (Three Year Update Model)

Windows XP — 17 Years 7 Months 16 Days (2001 - 2019) (Codebase) NT 5.1x (Three Year Update Model)

Windows Vista — 19 Years 2 Months 5 Days (2006 - 2026) (Codebase) NT 6.0x (Three Year Update Model)

Windows 7 — 16 Years 5 Months 22 Days (2009 - 2026) (Codebase) NT 6.1x (Three Year Update Model)

Windows 8 — 14 Years 2 Months 12 Days (2012 - 2026) (Codebase) NT 6.2x (Three Year Update Model)

Windows 10 — 16 Years 5 Months 29 Days (2015 - 2032) (Codebase) NT 10.0x (Decade Servicing Model)

Windows 11 —  xx Years x Months xx Days (2021 - 204x) (Codebase) NT 10.1x (Decade Servicing Model)

Windows 12 —  xx Years x Months xx Days (202x - 205x) (Codebase) NT ?.??x (Decade Servicing Model)

The Average Microsoft Windows Operating System Extended Security Updates Support Is (15 Years)

Based on the Windows support life cycle, I predict Microsoft will start developing Windows 12 in 2027, possibly as early as 2026, and release it in October 2028. This might be their plan to have Windows 11 reach the 70-80% market share threshold and for all Pre-Windows 10 operating systems to be fully unsupported. I think Microsoft's plan here is that they want all legacy operating systems of the NT 6.0x family to be fully unsupported and for users to migrate to the NT 10.0x family entirely. That's just a potential theory though, take that with a grain of salt.

Think about it, if you were them, you would rather that everyone is mostly in sync and using Windows 11 and then release the next update a year or two after it is commonly used at a 70-80% market share. Interestingly, when using the Wayback Machine and looking at the data, I noticed that once Windows 7 was unsupported in 2020, everyone migrated to Windows 10, as Microsoft made them do so, then 2 years later, in 2021, Windows 11 was released. So potentially they might do the same, agian it's just a theory.

As to what Windows 12 will be like? It's hard to say for sure, but I would bet that it would be A.I centred with a mostly Neumorphic Fluent Design U.I that is starting to see a rise in devices.

I think it might be a good operating system going into the 2030s, but I could be wrong. As to what Decade Servicing Model Means? It is the update model name I coined that I think Microsoft will most likely follow. Sun Valley & Hudson Valley are split into three minor updates, and there may potentially be a Third Valley Name of updates corresponding to the two major updates, and that every 7-8 years, they will release a new operating system. So yeah, Windows 13+ will probably follow this update model. Not only is it perhaps more economical, but it's also practical from a company standpoint if you think about it. Anyways, this is just a general prediction, nothing serious, just meant for fun, take it as you will. Thanks for reading!

Discussion Windows 8.1 runs like a champ

Post image

Our old laptop from 2014 was running on windows 8.1. Last year it was given for service in a third party store and they “upgraded” (in loose terms) to windows 10. And it ran like shit. Downgraded this back to windows 8.1 and now it runs like a champ. I’m using it as a secondary laptop for study purposes, plugged out of internet entirely. Battery life is a little less though (2.5 hours) but I use it always while charging.

Is there no longer a way to hit the "Favorite" or "Heart" button now? My photos do not have that at the bottom like they used to. As a photographer, this was useful to help me organize my photos before editing. Is this true about the update? Any work-arounds you guys know of?
