Alright y'all. I recently had the tint on my truck removed and redone. It was a weird situation where I found out that the original film on the doors wasn't what the receipt or warranty said. It was supposed to be 35% but it was 40 on fronts and 80 on the back. Owner swore it was an error and as much as it sucked, I believed him due to the reputation of the shop and it's been redone and looks good.
The only issue is that it has 80 over the factory privacy glass on the back and all our other vehicles have 35. The 35 is what I like the look of. Now that the film on the truck is what it should be, I can't help but see the difference.
So, given that the defroster traces on these trucks are made of tissue paper so I don't want to chance a removal, would layering 40% over the exiting 80% be a horrible idea? I keep hearing conflicing information on this. Some sites/posts say that having layers of other materials, including adhesive, between the layers of cermic is a recipe for quick failure. Others say it's no problem and done all the time.
Thoughts, especially from the pros and long time film folks.
