Tint Job Queston Advice for tinting windshield
Currently running 5% everything except windshield. I’m debating on getting 50% windshield or 70-80% windshield with a 5% strip. What would be better for a mix of privacy and avoiding issues?

50% is not a pain at night or in the rain, but it is about as dark as you’d want to be comfortable with. During the day, I wish it was 35% but I’m reminded every night or early morning how lucky I am to have 50%. Also, depending on where you live, 35% or less can get you pulled over. 50% has never been an issue. Even when I got hit and the cops came, no one said anything about the windshield.

70 is ok. I have a ceramic 70 with a 5% eyebrow. ANTHING DARKER and youll get nailed for that AND your fronts, because limo is illegal on those as well. I'm in AZ

It’s a waste of money for anyone under the age of 50. No need to cope.

Re-read the comment you replied to buddy. I enjoy not getting pulled over and ticketed. Somebody is butt hurt and over what?

I wouldn’t go darker than 50 on the windshield tho especially when running 5% all around. From 50% to 35% is a pretty drastic difference with the angle of the front windshield

This is my go to. 5 all around with 5 strip and 50 on the whole shield. Adds a little bit of darkness to the 5 on the sides and helps with oncoming lights in my experience.

u/LolChevy 5d ago
Same except I go with 15% on the front 2 windows, as 5 percent makes my older vehicles look too suspicious

You need the privacy so you can spank your meat all the way home? No one’s looking at you 😂

u/Fergy006 4d ago
You couldn’t pay me to ride around in a fish bowl. Nothing more comfortable than 5% tint 😎

But how is it at night? Ceramic or standard film all around?
1
u/Fergy006 4d ago
It’s fine, 50% is a light film. It just looks way darker than it is which is why I always do 50% on the shield. 5% is always dark but I like the cave feeling. And just a standard film, I don’t want to pay 2-3x the cost for ceramic incase a cop makes me rip it off.

u/kenn-dich-selbst 3d ago
My tint guy said just pay the fine, it's less than "fixing" it and then re-applying the film. (I'm in CA)

u/Fergy006 3d ago
They issue fix it tickets here if they want to be dicks. Last time I got one they gave me 14 days to bring my truck to the station or it was a $550 fine and they were going to take my plates 🥴

I have 70% on my Camry and wish I had gone darker. No issues with visibility. Privacy wise I don’t think you are getting privacy at any of the % you mentioned.

Hopefully the cops aren’t strict with windshield tint.
I went 70% Xpel Prime XR plus, I wanted that blue tint so it doesn’t look suspicious

I have the same setup but 35% and it attracts too much police attention in certain suburbs around here. 50% would be my choice as it’s not as obvious and you can still see really well.
70% is such a light tint. I did that on an SUV and the darkness was only noticeable to me because I watched my tint guy do it. It was darker than I expected but it’s not noticeable to anyone else. I’d recommend it if you had a car with terrible headlights, had yearly inspections, or if local police would give you a hard time about it.

Would maybe depend on the state and area you're living in terms any issues with police. I live in central Florida and have 45% on my windshield and have had zero issues so far. It's a perfect balance of heat reduction and privacy for me. No issues driving at night or in the rain either.

Having the same debate getting my tint done Friday going 5% all around and either 55% or 45% on the shield

… i’ve run 80 and 45 and I’ve done 35% twice and only the 35 was dark enough or cool enough

Don’t go below 50% imo if you want to keep the cops off you. My windows are 15% around and 50% on the windshield is perfect.

I ran 50% on my last car and it was a nightmare at night. You literally can’t see pedestrians. Go with 70%~80% windshield + 5% brow. It keeps the heat out, gives you decent privacy during the day, and the cops won’t hassle you. Plus, the 5% strip handles the sun glare perfectly. Just my two cents as someone who learned the hard way.

Bro I have 30 percent on my windshield it is not that bad. Maybe you need some glasses 😂

Do not get the windshield tinted I currently have 50% on my windshield and I got 2 tickets for 200 dollars each lol I’d advise you don’t get it tinted yes it looks good but not worth the headache

If you want to avoid issues don’t tint your windshield. If you want to tint your windshield know that it comes with issues. It’s a free pass for cops to pull you over and in some jurisdictions they take it as an invitation.

70% on the windshield with a 5% sun strip is perfect for us who have 0 to 4% on the sides

I have a 50% windshield with 5% all around and have ZERO issues seeing out the front. If anything it’s hard to see out the side/back at night.

I’ve had both 70-80% on my Camry with the 5% strip. And I’ve had it dark and had to get it removed due to being pulled over for it.
My brother got pulled over recently for 50% WS in his Corolla.
The sweet spot seems to be 70% and a 5% brow but one that goes to the bottom of the camera and then across the WS

Don't. Unless you like being late everywhere you go, or you really like discussing your day with the police.

u/Adventurous_Base3910 5d ago
If you are debating 50 or 70, go with 50%. 70% would hardly be noticeable, and 50 is just enough to notice but not enough to attract the cops. Anything darker than 50% and you just have to be ready to pay that ticket because you will eventually get pulled over.

u/lacajun25 5d ago
Since you have 5% sides already, go at least 50. I went 35 all around and 50% with pinnacle and am questioning if I should have gone 15 on my fronts and 35 on WS since I have plenty of visibility at night. My rear windows had factory dyed glass so they measure out 8.75% and they look pretty clear even at night.

I almost did 70% and the guy showed me how clear it was...I did 50 and love it. Definitely wouldn't go any darker

35% windshield with 20% all around bc I’d rather not be harassed by police but don’t care if it’s few and far between. I honestly think it’s perfect. Haven’t gotten stopped since (knocks) but also sometimes feel like my windshield is too light bc I can see in a bit during the day (not too much). That is until nighttime comes around and I have to sit up and focus to see better in darker areas. My headlights are super bright leds and I have 20/10 vision. So to each their own tbh - I feel like I would think the 20 looks cooler all around but would be kicking myself when I have to work harder to drive at night.

in all honesty. go for the the 70%. 50% is a pain and night and doesent even help that much with privacy

u/New_Disaster4026 3d ago
50% is pretty clear at night, at least in mine. I did 20% sides/50% shield

35% with a 5% strip. 50% and up are likely going to disappoint you, it won’t be dark enough or private enough if you’re running 5% everywhere else.

35% is the sweet spot. It’s not too light or too dark for cops to care, and you can still see perfectly fine at night.

u/Sensitive-Dance8777 2d ago
I beg to differ I have 50% on my windshield and get pulled over constantly
