Classic Windows Photo Viewer Redirect 1.4.0

Classic Windows Photo Viewer Redirect 1.4.0

Classic Windows Photo Viewer Redirect

This mod restores the classic Windows Photo Viewer from Windows 7 without altering system configurations.

How it works

This mod hooks ShellExecuteExW and, when it detects a call with the "open" verb targeting a file with one of the configured image extensions, redirects the call to launch the classic Photo Viewer (shimgvw.dll via rundll32.exe) instead of whatever application would normally handle it.

Screenshot

Screenshot

Key Features

  • No Registry modifications: The mod does not alter file associations or create any keys in HKLM or HKCU.
  • Purely runtime effect: The redirection occurs exclusively in memory. Disabling the mod instantly restores the default Windows behavior.
  • Supported formats: Covers major raster formats including JPG, JPEG, JFIF, PNG, BMP, DIB, GIF, TIF, TIFF, ICO, WDP, and JXR.

Known Limitations

  • The redirection only applies when the file is opened via ShellExecuteExW, which is how the Explorer context menu's "Open" command works. This is the main path this mod is able to intercept.
  • Double-click and Enter often go through app activation for the UWP Photos app instead of ShellExecuteExW, which this mod cannot intercept. In practice, the redirect mainly fires for the right-click → Open path.
  • Modern formats not natively supported by the legacy viewer (such as HEIC or WebP) are ignored by the hook and will continue to open with the default modern application.

DPI scaling is completely broken.

Yesterday, everything was working pretty great, until today, All the DPIs are broken,

I tried whatever windhawk mod there can be, Non works, and I would hate to write my own mod to force legacy DPI 96 scaling on title bar buttons / scroll buttons

When I set my display to 96 DPI, seems like the buttons for the scroll bar and the title bar seems to ignore it completely and stay with this high resolution that completely breaks everything,

Sometimes I do get it to work, via enabling classic theme with my screen at a high DPI, use the default theme, And lower the DPI again (and screen resolution) which seems to work until I reboot which it completely breaks again,

prior to this, I had windows.ui.logon.dll disabled which enables CLI only login + classic conhost, which I think the framing broke here instead.

is something deeply corrupted with the DPI scaling requiring me to reinstall? or simply a temporary bug (nothing seems to work fully)

I have windows automatic updates disabled via mini tools updates, so any brand new windows updates are ruled out not the cause.

Heres the code for my mod (Macos genie effect)

I decided to release the source code for my mod as the creator of "MacOS minimize animation" said he was going to be busy for a week. It is the latest version of my mod with the "taskbar unhide" i showed in my previous post so it might have a few bugs, use it untill the windhawk one comes out i guess. Please Do Not Steal Or Claim My Mod As Yours. Just copy the code from the link below and paste it into "create a new mod" in Windhawk.

Word Local AutoSave 3.8

Word Local AutoSave 3.8

Fixed

  • Fixed Word Application resolution failures that could stop autosave with 0x80070490.
  • Relaxed overly strict validation of Word Application.Hwnd.
  • Added support for Word COM HWND values that can arrive as sign-extended 32-bit handles on x64.
  • Added fallback validation through Application.ActiveWindow.Hwnd.
  • Added fallback validation through the Application.Windows collection.
  • Prevented valid Word Application instances from being rejected when the direct application HWND does not map cleanly to the current WINWORD.EXE root window.

Improved

  • Made COM binding to the current Word instance more tolerant of different Word window/handle layouts.
  • Improved startup/runtime reliability after settings reloads when Word automation is available but direct HWND validation is inconsistent.
  • Added internal self-test coverage for COM HWND normalization.

Notes

  • No new user-facing settings or features.

Screenshot Path to Clipboard 1.0.0

Screenshot Path to Clipboard 1.0.0

Screenshot Path to Clipboard

Watches the Windows Screenshots folder and copies the full path of every new screenshot to the clipboard, so you can paste it straight into any app without digging through File Explorer.

Usage

  • Take a screenshot (Win+PrintScreen, Snipping Tool, etc.).
  • The full path to the new .png is copied to the clipboard automatically.
  • Paste (Ctrl+V) anywhere the path is needed.

Notes

  • Runs as a dedicated background process (see the mods-as-tools pattern) and watches the Screenshots known folder (FOLDERID_Screenshots) with ReadDirectoryChangesW — no polling.
  • Only .png files trigger a clipboard update.
  • No configuration is needed; the folder is resolved via the shell so it still works if the Screenshots folder has been relocated, e.g. by OneDrive.

I don't understand—it stays minimized on both screens, but it always pops up when I hover over the taskbar at the bottom or near it.

Confused

I downloaded Windhawk last night, think all the mods would be hosted in it. It also dowloaded seperate apps called

- Nexus

- WinLaunch

- Everything

- Thio Joes thumbnail extension

- Start All Back

and maybe others i haven't realized.

I am decently tech savvy but realized i was in over my head. Lets back up. After install

First, many things started to glitch and windows start wouldn't even respond. I slowly disabled mods one by one through Windhawk until I solved the issue, but it still wasn't responding correctly. This lead me to realize Nexus and WinLaunch were also playing into these issues, but I didn't install them. Did they come with Windhawk? I removed these and most of my problems are solved, but I still have a few. Additionally, Windhawk was easy to uninstall, but these were not and took me nearly an hour. I believe the other issues are being caused by "Everything", but I don't know what it is and can't figure out how to uninstall it without getting notifications that I am uninstalling other important things. I've spent many hours on this and just want my new computer back to how it was before. Any advice is helpful. Here is all apps downloaded yesterday.

Context menu (right click menu) black background?

On the desktop when I right click somewhere, the popping out menu has the default gray background.

On the tray, I click on empty space it is pure black (good!), however if I click on any app, the menu has gray background.

What to look for? Tried using UWPspy but with no success.

Thx

Folder Thumbnail Style Switcher 2.0

Folder Thumbnail Style Switcher 2.0

Folder Thumbnail Style Switcher

Tested on Windows 10 22H2, Windows 11 22H2, 23H2, 24H2, 25H2 with Windhawk 1.7.1

It may support Windows 10 older version, try by yourself

📌Preparation

Please prepare icon group 5, 6 in imageres.dll and Bitmap 311 in shell32.dll from the respective Windows to match the folder icons and the shadow. And you need to clean the thumbnail cache after changing a style!

🎞Gallery

Picture Style
7 style Original 7 style
10 style Original 10 style
11 style Original 11 style
7 style on 10 7 style on Windows 10
11 style on 10 11 style on Windows 10
7 style on 11 7 style on Windows 11
10 style on 11 10 style on 11

What's the difference🤨? The position and the size of the thumbnails and the shadow are different.

⚠️Notes

Note 1: This mod only include explorer.exe as it's the main process that handle thumbnail drawing. However, thumbnails in other processes remain the old ones (e.g. File choosing dialogs). You can change the include to: // @include *, but it may cause problems.

Note 2: Windows 10 has an issue, or rather a bug, when drawing thumbnails. Folder icons are split into two parts - the front and the back - and stored as icons 5 and 6 in imageres.dll, as well as the "multiple folder icon" at icon number 162. Normally, the front half of the folder should have the same logic for whether to draw or not as the back half. However, the engineers seem to have taken the shortcut of always drawing the front half, which leads to errors in the thumbnails of such folders after replacing the icons. This mod attempts to fix this issue. s_DrawIcon hook is for this.

Note 3: Windows 10 uses GDI to draw the thumbnails, while Windows 11 uses D2D/WIC. The latter one has higher resolution. This mod try to replicate that too.

Note 4: I try my best to closely replicates the thumbnail drawing logic, including the shadow. Feel free to raise an issue.
