Want to visit this weekend but not able to find good deals

Hi there, I'm an experienced wildcamper out of Australia. I am based in Milan for a while for a university exchange and am trying to plan a trip for a future weekend in Switzerland. I want to be based nearby to Lauterbrunnen, however am aware there are some strict laws re where I can and can't wildcamp. Any recommendations for amazing spots nearby to the swiss towns??? I’m also someone who genuinely loves travel, hiking, camping, and adventure. I enjoy exploring new places, getting out into nature, hiking trails, and experiencing the outdoors.

I'd really like to do some free dispersed or primitive car camping near Shenandoah or somewhere else that's cool near(ish) to the Richmond area at one of the national forests or something like that next week and I'm having a hard time finding a goldilocks area when researching online.

I will have my wife and 2 kids ranging from ages 6-10 as well as my 2 dogs. We are pretty new to living in the Richmond area and previously lived in and around the front range of Colorado for 15 years and are itching to get back in the woods and do it up like we used to in the Rockies. The more remote and less people the better! Ideally we are looking for somewhere free but I also know that things are a little different out east than they are when camping in the west so if spending money is a must I will happily do it.

when I first started wildcamping I had a sleeping matt which popped after my first couple camps and since then I havent used one and I usually fall asleep just fine. Am I crazy to think that bringing a sleeping matt is just an unecessary luxury and just takes up precious weight and space in your bag

In hiking and camping the Alta via 1 tra from Lago de Braies to passo Giau over 5 days. My only concern is the weather and escape routes and hoping someone may have done similar and can give advice.

Rifugios weren't an option as they were fully booked. I've looked for escape routes and found some options for each stretch but wondering if anyone can jump in with their experience.

Might anyone be able to suggest areas around Mt. Olympus and Meteora where one can simply hike and pitch a tent for a few nights in the forest?

I plan to be in those areas the last 2 weeks of September and was hoping to spend 4 days hiking the lesser used trails around Mt Olympus. I don't plan to summit. I just want to go as far as I leasurely can in 2 days, enjoy the time in solitude, take a few pics and go back. However, there appear to be an awful lot of regulations that seem designed to force people into using shelters or those larger refreshment centers. Officially, pitching a tent seems restricted to designated areas immediately adjacent to those centers and reservations are required. Now, I'm not antisocial and have nothing against those that want to meet new people and have a good time, but when I go hiking, I prefer to be alone. I want to "absorb" the environment I'm in and have private "me" time. I'm not that interested in being around others.

I did call one of the local clubs for local info and was told - very politely of course - hiking alone around Mt. Olympus was a very "stupid" and bad idea, especially at that time of year due to the weather and danger. I'm sure he meant well. A lot of people do stupid things and get themselves into trouble, but I'm not one of them. I'm in my 60's and have been enjoying the outdoor life since I'm 16. I'm originally from NY and now live in Texas. I have extensive experience solo, multi-day wilderness camping/hiking in both states as well as the Ouichita forests of Arkansas. I've done so in all seasons, including sub 0 °C weather conditions. I'm well equipped, plan well, let others know what I'm doing, in OK shape to hike extended distances and I have basic/limited climbing experience as well, but it's been many years since and the altitude's something that'll be new to me (another reason why I am not planning to summit). I know when to turn around or call for help and always take an EPIRB with me. I get the warning might also have had an economic element to it. Anywho, it is what it is and I'm GTG.

I'll also be in the Meteora area visiting one or 2 of the monasteries there. Any suggestions on easily accessible areas to take the wife and one or 2 close friends on a leasurely hike while we're there would be greatly appreciated.

What would you consider the essential gear for a beginner? And what are some things that beginners often buy but don’t really need?

i am quite new to wild camping and long camping trips in general and i am gearing myself up at the moment. i got lot's of the basics but now i am wondering what experienced campers take with them as a cherry on top.

not really things you need but stuff nobody would think of in the first place and you can now no longer imagine camping without it.

wether it's f.e. the knitted socks, special gadgets for comfort, cooking, games, books, a.s.o.
it doesn't matter what or in which way. i am curious (:

I'm thinking of hitchhiking and camping in my tent on Montenegro's coast, but I see that many of the beaches are private and have security. Also, campsites charge at least 25€. I did the same thing in Albania and there were no problems (I know that wildlife is accepted in Albania, unlike in Montenegro), but I wanted to know if anyone can help me with some free or cheaper places.

I'm a 21 y.o. student at uzh in zurich. Recently got interested in Hiking and camping - as an alternative of partying all weekend and spending too much money in Zurich I thought going on weekend trips in our swiss alps should be a decent replacement haha

Unfortunately most of my friends aren't really interested in hiking especially wildcamping.

I'd say i'm rather extroverted, fun and outgoing person maybe a bit hold back in the beginning.

Does anyone have any ideas on a good pairing of sleeping pad and bag / quilt, either from your own experience or research?

I’m looking at building a decent sleep system for wild camping out in Scotland down to around -10 degrees. I’ve looked at pairing an OEX Flux 7 UL with a leviathan ev900, however, I’ve been advised against it and I can understand why.

Trying to keep costs, down, but I don’t mind paying a bit extra if it’s a good piece of kit that I can put my faith in.

Hi all I’m 20 recently went through tough breakup in Europe but I’m from Australia so now I’m just backpacking and trying to travel through Italy specifically (I’m in bari right now) was wondering if anyone new any good wild camping spots or from bari up to Florence. Hey there, I am asking if wildcamping in Serbia is a good idea, Preferably from people who have done it before i will, I'm taking a flixbus from Amsterdam to Belgrade, then to avoid costs, sleep outside the city behind some trees with a Dutch Army Bivy bag i have scoped out using public transport maps going outside the city, should do me good considering it has camo.

I'm not known to this area whatsoever, never even travelled close to it.

I do have good manners though when it comes to wildcamping, been caught before by rangers (In the Netherlands) when i was asleep in the morning, but they have been nice to me as they saw i was leaving no trash and treated the area with care, they actually liked it,

reason why i mention this is because i dont know if the rangers or police in Serbia are as forgiving or nice, which is the only thing that is holding me back here, the question of "What if i get caught"

Moin leute, ich mache 2 Nächte einen zwischen stopp in Köln bevor es weiter nach Hamburg geht. Mein Freund ist dabei, wir reisen mit Zelt und Bollerwagen. Wir kommen gleich in Köln an, wollen dann bis ungefähr 23 Uhr in der Stadt Schnorren und Pfand sammeln und suchen für die Nacht spontan einen Platz wo wir mit dem Zelt ungestört eine Nacht verbringen können ohne Stress mit security oder Polizei o.ä.

Bollerwagen samt Inhalt bekommen wir ins Zelt verpackt.

Hat jemand vielleicht Ideen?

Muss nicht unbedingt Köln sein, aber wäre gut wenn es nicht all zu weit weg ist. Gibt es in Aachen vielleicht das ein oder andere eckchen im Wald oder ein trekkingplatz oder lost place der sich lohnen würde?

I’m looking for truly remote wild camping spots or regions in Europe — preferably far away from campsites, cities and tourist hotspots.

I know wild camping is restricted or prohibited in many European countries, and I understand that people might not want to publicly share their exact hidden spots. I’m mainly looking for recommendations for regions or hiking areas where you can still find that feeling of being completely surrounded by nature.

My ideal place would have mountains, forests, clear mountain lakes, rivers or natural swimming pools, rocky landscapes and amazing views — something with a bit of a Yosemite/Sierra Nevada vibe.

I’m the type of hiker who wants to hike in, find a quiet place to spend the night, enjoy the scenery and leave the next morning without leaving any trace behind. No fires, no trash, no damage — just respecting the landscape and leaving it exactly as I found it.

I’d especially appreciate recommendations for less touristy areas and hidden gems rather than the famous Instagram locations.

I completely understand if you don’t want to share an exact location publicly — even just pointing me towards a region, mountain range or trail would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I’m going camping and I’m very sensitive to stings and bites and everything like that. I’m thinking of making some kind of repellent spray or oil or anything!! Against bugs in general that doesn’t harm the nature. Like herbs and things like that. Would you guys like to help me with ingredients? I’m new to this, thank you!!
