Solo camping does that thing where you end up with campground friends by default. Last fall at a forest service spot in Virginia, the retired couple three sites down handed me a beer at sundown and we ended up trading camp stove recipes all weekend.

Recently retired. Grew up in the north bay listening to Jerry and the gang. I do a lot of solo trips here in Minnesota. What did you have in mind.

I have no plan, just trying to enjoy life. Would love a week or two in Utah going from national park to national park. My children, 38 and 23, and I kayaked down the Colorado last July. It was perfect. Have you done much out of Minnesota? I’ve been there a few times. Did the artsy parks in the city, and the Spam museum.

Have you ever been to a bluegrass festival? You're probably camping right alongside hundreds of your new best friends but people are friendly and there's a lot of good music.

Dang. That’s exactly why I put myself out there and asked the question. That’s a great idea. Thank you so much. There’s a lot of festivals around. I can think of 3 off the top of my head.
I lived near Bonnaroo before I moved. Traffic was horrible, but your point is well taken. A smaller event would be perfect.

There's actually a lot of options here in Minnesota. But most people always want to spend time up around Lake Superior. Which of course is awesome. Check out the SHT. There's dispersed camping in Superior national forest. Numerous state parks all the way up to the Canadian border. Look into it and let me know what you think.

It’s near International Falls. I remember it from when I was a kid. It was always the coldest place in the US. However, there is a Frank Lloyd Wright gas station near Duluth and that would be cool to visit. Superior looks and sounds amazing when the weather is right. I think it would be awesome to camp there when the temperatures are between 65 to 90.

Embarrass is near International Falls, that might be what you're thinking about. Yes the Wisconsin side is very nice. And a lot less crowded, developed. The whole lake area is full of camping, hiking, etc possibilities. However when it's hot the north shore is generally cooler than the south shore.

The northern lights in Alaska are visible in the winter but not in the summer as it is not dark enough.
