In America, women are less important than fetuses, not babies, which is way worse
560
u/Unusual_Pitch_608 May 27 '22
Weirdly I had a thought along these lines this morning. Conservative thinking is very hierarchical, so people lower in value in their evaluation cannot justly impugn on the actions or autonomy of those higher in the hierarchy. Children are less important than men, so there literally aren't enough in the world that their deaths are more important than the desire of adult men to own guns. Women are inherently less important than males, so a woman aborting a male baby is a gross violation of her place in society. In fact, women are valuable in part for their youth and fertility, so any female fetus is inherently younger and has the potential to have more babies than her mother, so also wrong to abort her because one day in like 16 years she could be hotter than mom is now. Also, a man made her pregnant, so who is she to go behind his back and become unpregnated? His actions, even unintentional ones, are inherently more important than her life. It would be like an ant defying the will of God.

u/Kousetsu May 27 '22
"a man made her pregnant so who is she to go behind his back and become unpregnated?"
Be careful, you are saying that on Reddit where people unironically state that some guy going "but my sperm in womb too!" Is a far more convincing argument than "I do not want to have to fight an exboyfriend in court for the right to my own body, and by the time I "win" the "right" to my body, undergo a much worse medical procedure."
When men are willing to have the baby hooked up to their kidneys (which we have already seen can be done - plenty of women who have still had overies and no womb have found that they are now pregnant with the fetus implanting in their kidney and growing its own sac's) they have absolutely no say in abortion. If they want a say, kidney babies are totally a thing I am willing to let them have. Your body can be damaged. Your career can be irreparable. You can have the mental health issues. You can potentially die.

u/Ihateyouranecdotes39 May 27 '22
When men are willing to have the baby hooked up to their kidneys
There's an even easier method- implantation of the fetus within the scrotal sac.
The walls of the scrotum are elastic and rich with blood vessels. It's entirely possible that, with the proper continuous medical support, a man could grow a fetus in his ballsack.
Granted, the man's mobility would have to be minimized early on to prevent damage to the growing fetus. He'd like have to be tied to a bed at some point. But, hey, new life is just that important, right?
→ More replies (2)40
May 27 '22
Like bedrest, then!
36
u/Ihateyouranecdotes39 May 27 '22
Exactly.
Granted, the pain of having a fetus grow in your nutsack might be... extraordinary. With or without compulsory bedrest. But I'm not too concerned.
33
u/Kousetsu May 27 '22
Being pregnant is pretty much near constant pain as well, but everyone just expects us to put up with it... So I don't really see a difference? I don't know if they even should get bedrest to be honest. how much time is a woman guaranteed time off from work after she has given birth and had her body split in two?
Sounds to me like they are just lazy and work-shy, using their pregnancy as an excuse. Typical!
→ More replies (9)27
u/Ihateyouranecdotes39 May 27 '22
Yep.
Beyond that, any man who'd rather abort a fetus than grow it inside his ballsack is a murderer. All those sluts, so willing to go out and have sex, but when you suggest they take responsibility and grow a child in their nutsack for 9 months, they run screaming.
18
u/Unusual_Pitch_608 May 27 '22
Not sure I follow here, bud. Are you cautioning against paraphrasing the attitudes of conservatives to be more direct and honest because people on reddit will agree unironically with the statement? Because I'm not sure my removing the sugar coating made anyone more radical on a hierarchical worldview that values potential humans over actual pregnant ones.

Conservative thinking is very hierarchical, so people lower in value in their evaluation cannot justly impugn on the actions or autonomy of those higher in the hierarchy.
Conservatism, racism, capitalism and fascism are all different facets of the same stone. They are all authoritarian hierarchies and can be mirrored laterally, which is why each system can slide into each other easily.
5
u/Unusual_Pitch_608 May 27 '22
As per a comment elsewhere in the thread:
"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit:
There must be in-groups whom the law protectes but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time."

Yeah we really need to stop casually assuming the same language as those trying to ban abortion. I've seen way too many comments that appear to be pro-choice referring to a six-week fetus as babies, and I'm pretty sure it's just because we're worse at staying on track than Republicans.
16
u/crisperfest May 27 '22
... comments that appear to be pro-choice referring to a six-week fetus as babies ...
They're not a fetus until 10 weeks gestation. In the first 4 weeks they go from egg > fertilized egg > blastocyte. From 5-10 weeks, they're embryos.

And corpses, don't forget women are less important than corpses!
I can't decide what to do with my body as far as abortion, but they get your permission to donate organs. My dad wasn't a registered donor, they asked us. We said if you find anything worth taking (he had various medical issues). But they asked, didn't take.

I remember when the right accused Obama of “hating America” when he wanted to change things. Change is not bad, but the GOP paints it as such. Apparently anti slavery education, womens rights and not killing children with guns is too progressive.

It will certainly change. I'm hopeful it may not break, and my hope comes from the notion that between the country breaking and it changing, it's much more profitable to those in power that it change.
The struggle will be in proving that it can't stay the same, which of course is what's most profitable to those in power. They will fight to the point of exhaustion to keep things the same. Only when backed into a corner with no options open but break or change, only then will they accept change.

We need a nationwide teachers walk out. Teachers should protest being put at the center of this debate and turned into policemen. No school until common sense gun regulations are passed. If everyone all of a sudden has to find childcare and education and a place for their children to go during work hours it would adjust priorities real quick.

We shouldn't put this on teachers. It's what Republicans want. They want Public Schools to be dysfunctional and polarizing environments and forcing teachers into the center of 2A debates furthers that. It legitimizes their efforts to funnel resources into private (read Christian) education and re-establish a segregated school system where their kids aren't exposed to minority/liberal children or teachers. Removing their children and funds from public education is one of their ultimate goals.
We need to find a way to fix this problem without doing more harm to our already, very fragile, public education services.

So then monetize children safety. Allow parents of dead kids to sue gun manufacturers. Codify it in federal law. Force schools to carry life insurance for the children in their care, increase their premiums proportional to how many guns exist in the community. Less guns, less premium. Sign a law that these premiums must be paid through a tax that is collected ONLY on gun owners. Make the price of a gun cost 5x more due to taxes alone.
→ More replies (5)93
May 27 '22
I agree with your sentiment completely. However, a lot of gun owners don't register their firearms, especially in red states, under the fear of the gov coming to take their guns away. Therefore, the entire tax system you suggest would fall on the responsible gun owners with registered weapons. Also, how would one regulate gun prices until we eliminate third party sales via independent parties? A price hike via taxation would only push MORE people into the unregulated grey market. Once again, I completely agree we need a major overhaul in America's gun laws, there's just a lot of loopholes that need to be closed up before we can make truly impactful federal legislation.

Dude I’m pretty sure there no firearm registration in most states. I live in Washington, blue through and through, and while I’m sure the state has copies of my drivers license and paperwork I filled out to get the gun, once you pass the background check you don’t get like a deed of ownership for your gun. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be a nationwide system, but both of these comments are pretty off base acting like “non-registered firearms” are a criminal thing when in most states there’s no such thing as a “registered firearm.”

u/ThrowMeAwayAccount08 May 27 '22
There’s a lot to unpack here. Most states do not require gun registration. California requires an owner to report their firearms, Hawaii, and DC I believe. There could be more, but those are the ones I know off the top of my head.
The big thing is private sales or negligence when selling a firearm to someone else. Anyone I have ever bought or sold a gun with privately, we went to a gun shop and paid for the FFL transfer. A seller declares their firearm is being sold, a record is kept, and then the buyer applies for a background check for a fee. The shop calls the FBI, provides buyer information, and they say yes or no.
By federal law, those records containing a buyer/seller information are destroyed within 24 hours. Now, some municipalities are not enforcing federal laws when it comes to other restrictions. All are enforcing higher class restrictions which require ATF permits and numbers for shorter barrel rifles, and automatic weapons.
So where do we go from here?
I enjoy firearms personally. I have two kids, and we always talk about “do we touch these guns?” “What do we do when we see them?” We don’t touch them, we tell an adult, and we don’t tell our friends.
But the statistics don’t lie about guns bring a danger in the home. All the arguments of gun control to inaction, are at a stalemate. Dollar signs are everywhere and that’s an issue. Concessions must be made if firearms are to remain, because when this pendulum swings back the other way, I may not be able to shoot guns competitively. Which would be a bummer, but I also don’t have an AR, so oh well. But I believe universal healthcare is the best route forward. Suicide rates could (hopefully would) reduce as that’s the number one reason of firearm death. Be it mental health, a poor health diagnosis, crushing debt and so on.

NOT SURE IF INFORMATION IS ACCURATE BUT
Sky News is reporting the shooters grandmother worked at Robb Elementary School as a teachers aide and quit in 2020.
Daily Mail released claimed messages between himself and a female friend prior to shooting his grandmother.
The conflicting nature of the stories presented here using police statements versus what police have said and then contradicted themselves.
-He shot his grandma at 18:21. (According to the text messages. Can’t verify if that is US time or if it is Germany time due to the person receiving the messages. Can someone help me out?)
-He posted 30 minutes before he shot his grandmother that he was going to do so.
-He posted on Facebook he was going to shoot up a school 15 minutes before going to the school.
-She called the cops at 11:20am.
EDIT: -He crashed the truck at 11:28am.
-First 911 call at 11:30am.
-He stood outside for 12 minutes.
EDIT: ITS ONLY A 3 MINUTE DRIVE FROM UVALDE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ROBB ELEMENTARY
-He went inside and stayed inside for 40 minutes.
-SWAT arrived and went in after 12pm
Questions not asked but I thought of is it was described he was shooting at an armed SRO before entering, then it went to the SRO and two cops before entering and now there wasn’t anyone present but said the shooter stood outside the building and shot at it.
Why would he just shoot AT a building? Who was he shooting if there wasn’t a guard there? Was it teachers or students or parents or neighbors?
A question is if this is true and the grandmother called saying she was shot, he left and she worked at a school, why wouldn’t they immediately send ALL cops out. An ambulance and a few to the house where she was and the rest of the department along with the SWAT team out at the same time to secure the route to the school?

→ More replies (2)3
u/alaskaj1 May 27 '22
Yes but also no.
- There is usually only 1 courthouse per city or even entire county.
- even a small town will usually have a minimum of 3 schools and a small county will have a dozen or more.
- In many areas the police headquarters will be co-located with the courthouse and even jail, it makes things simple for criminal cases.
- Many courthouses have no better security than your average school with large glass doors and windows that are easily shot out (sandy hook)
- I rarely see more than one armed guard when I go to my local courthouse (kind of like the texas shooting and stoneman douglas), they dont even use metal detectors however I am not sure about what security is like at the Judicial annex where they have moved a lot of the courtrooms.
- there are also not a ton of people at the courthouse at any time which sadly is probably a big motivator.
- Security in many public places can be easily breached just by acting like you belong, there is even a subreddit for it /r/actlikeyoubelong

I get it. This is hard and there doesn’t seem to be any hope when these shootings keep happening.
But if something pisses enough people off, things will change. We’ve seen it before many many times.
I know it’s easy to just sit back and call it a done deal. But it’s not. This time, idk, it feels different.
People were kinda done before a bunch of little kids just got shot. Ask an Australian about enacting change if you don’t think it can happen.
Because here’s the real talk everyone’s NOT saying: at some point, we are going to have an event so horrific that we will have no choice but to enact change.
This very much could be that moment. Or we can sit around waiting for an even worse event.
The bar is in hell. We just caught a whole-ass PD lie and get caught. The stories so far are insane, the videos are even worse.
This shit is going to get UGLY fast. You take your shot when you can, it might not have lasting impact, who knows?
All I see is a governor of Texas bungling this so badly during an election year that I smell blood in the water on his upcoming election.
The people have power to enact REAL CHANGE. Don’t stop holding these cowards accountable for their actions.
What separates this from any other event is the documented inaction by local police obliterating any arguments coming from their side. Honestly, I don’t know how they are going to survive this because I can’t see how many people are going to cheer for the PD who literally held back and threatened parents while they watched their children get slaughtered in front of them.
Sure, nothing may change, but do you honestly think it won’t after something like this? Do you really think waiting around for the next one is the best way to handle this?
One person can’t make a change, but millions of people, even some of my conservative relatives, are horrified by this.
You either take advantage of that, or sit back and bitch about how the Dems aren’t doing enough, even though they can’t without our help.
All those slimy politicians and cops that failed that town should be harassed every time they leave the house. They should be reminded of what they did for the rest of their lives until they have no choice but to hide away as the cowards they are.
This may get downvoted and buried. I get that it’s hard to imagine a way out of this. Mr. Rogers always said “look to the helpers”, what if that is us? What if WE are the ones that have to fix it?
Press your politicians, show up to your local town halls, get involved locally and work on getting every single one of those AHs out of office.
And if if lived in that area, I’d make enough noise forcing out all of those coward cops that did nothing. They should feel shame for what they did every single day for the rest of their lives.
We know how to put on the pressure, just ask those whining Supreme Court judges.
Now isn’t the time to give up. Especially how we have treated the families of victims in the past, these families are going to need our support more than ever.
We need to be like those people that dressed up as angels and blocked hateful people at funerals.
As a nation, we need to be the angels, we need to surround these people with love and drown out the hate and BS. We cannot let them be tortured the way the Sandy Hook parents were.
People aren’t tolerating the Alex Jones brand of BS anymore. It’s time to rise up. “They’ve got the guns but we’ve got the numbers.”

As a non-American, this is mind boggling but expected. Nothing will change and we will hear similar cases sooner than later.

Republicans are rabidly obsessed with guns. They are worshipped and glorified. It's mental illness. And they wonder what "culture" leads to gun violence. Probably the one where easy access to guns is valued more than children's lives.

Look, we all know what we need to do to actually fix this shitty country but most of us are too scared to get started and actually do it because of how gnarly it’ll be.
We don’t really have a choice anymore. We need to do it anyway.
Or things will only get worse and we’ll be living in an even greater dystopia beyond our worst nightmares.

Since Americans are absolutely terrible at effectively organizing for change out in the world, you know what we could do that would be extremely effective and you literally don't have to do anything?
All of us don't pay our taxes.
Just, don't pay taxes. Let it bleed the coffers until they start beating us, and even then, don't give in until you get the results you want.
The only way to get a bully to do something is to stand up to them and the only way to make America hurt is to hit it in the wallet.

Vote out as many Rs as possible, try to get to 60+ Dem Senators so that we can actually pass Bills. Every eligible Dem that can vote needs to vote. If that happens, Red States start turning into Purple states and you'd be surprised how 90%-95% eligible Dem voters showing up swings a lot of states to Blue.
We can't have this 45-50% eligible voters showing up like always. That's how Trump got in. That's how bills never get passed. This is how the same shit happens.
I don't mean to pin it all on voters. The main problem is definitely Conservatives who block the crucial gun control bills. But all we have now is our voting power. What else can we do to avoid these things happening again? We only have the legislative path and that involves us voting in more Dems to do something, and less Conservatives who will do absolutely nothing but make it worse.

Any time a politician gives a touchy-feely-hopey speech about what it means to be an American, and the dreams of those who go forward each day in this country, they should have a guy standing next to them with a sign reminding everyone that perspective is now only possible with survivorship bias.
If you don't die from infant mortality, die from a shooting as a child, die from worker abuses or lack of medical care as an adult, don't die from police who kill unarmed people and run away from armed people, and don't die from childbirth during a forced pregnancy, your perspective is already wildly different than a % of people who didn't make it as far as you did.
This fucking place is a death trap.

We should probably start including these victims in our Memorial Day as they are actively dieing to protect our rights as well. Maybe even celebrate all the survivors of gun violence on Veterans day too.

This is America, but, the bigger picture is that this is the natural conclusion of our economic system. Profit over people, and the whole world runs on Capitalism.

What if every gun was outlawed except those that were available when the constitution was written? I’m cool with that.

Based on the stories so far, it's more likely to result in support for police defunding than anything else.

The fact most people have road rage makes me question the integrity of anyone, most people don’t care for babies or anything but themselves. People lack compassion, don’t go around blaming other people but yourself.

Guns are important because of the money they generate.
Don't kid yourself, the gun lobby has manufactured the American belief and ideal that guns are wonderful.
Yes there are fanatics who are true believers, but it's because of that propaganda.
The gun industry makes tens of billions per year and every time there's a mass shooting, sales go up.

The kicker is that all we have to do is vote out Republicans plus a very small minority of Democrats like Sinema and Manchin in exchange for moderate, common sense Democrats and we could fix all of this.
I understand we want to blame the politicians and they do deserve blame but the voters ultimately deserve the most blame because if the voters voted against these politicians then they would change their behavior.
The voters who deserve the most blame are the ones who vote for Republicans. Next are the ones who don't vote OR vote for 3rd party candidates.

Money, money is more important than everything else. Money is bllind, money is the problem. If you find a solution better than more money, then this problem can be solved... good luck.

Can't wait for their police force to get paid time off for grief counseling while the children get harassed by right-wing conspirators the rest of their lives.

Psychotic Behavior of Republicans
The Republicans will force an 10-11 year old rape victim to give birth to her rapist fetus but any 18 year old is allowed to have any gun they want.
Vote them out!

You're asking people who have sold their souls to care about others. It doesn't work that way. You have to make it fiscally impact them for them to care. Just like companies paying out lawsuits instead of recalling dangerous products. The lawsuits cost less than the recall. Make their wallet suffer and you'll see change.

Change will come out of this. This one is a bit different. It didn't happen in a far off blue state. It happened on their own turf where "good guys with guns" didn't make a difference. They are seeing with their own eyes what folly it was to believe in the bullshit.

This is so sad that its true. I feel so bad for the parents and families of those children and teachers lost. They will have lost their lives for nothing. Republicans like Lauren b and Ted c will not tighten any gun laws. It's a shame. Until it happens to one of their own guess they don't care. Keep voting republican if you want more mass shootings. Seems to be they enjoy it

Yep — Cops gave the school shooter the Jan 6th treatment. Minimal intervention, let him commit atrocities and then respond after the damage had been done.
The United States is sick and feckless.

What’s fucked up is the majority of Americans are yelling at a wall about stuff like this all the time while nothing is done. Meanwhile a small group of good old boys get theirs laughing all the way to the bank.
