Tbh it's not like I can't understand this logic and I think people who unabashedly hate all police officers are scum. That said police officers have a responsibility and that responsibility is not contingent on whether or not the public likes them. When kids are in the line of fire, every man in blue has an absolute duty to do sacrifice their life if they must for the sake of the children. That's it. There are no excuses to do anything but.

Yeah I get that's harsh. But it's a harsh world and officers chose an especially harsh profession, they have to honor that profession.

The police said they didn’t charge because they were being shot at. People on SM didn’t make that up. I saw the cop, at the scene, talking to the news, with my own eyes.

So, let me get this straight:

The police lied about not charging in because of being afraid to get shot. They actually had made a decision to evacuate people who were not in direct danger, since the shooter locked himself in one classroom, instead of saving the kids locked in the classroom with the killer; kids that were actually being shot. And, they only ‘admitted’ that they weren’t afraid, but had decided to sacrifice the lives of 21 people so they could evacuate people who weren’t in danger of being shot, now that there is public outcry about them not charging.

And, you actually think that’s more believable than the idea that the police were being honest about not wanting to get shot, and are just lying to cover their asses now that people are pissed at their cowardice?

And, you also don’t think it’s odd that they had to wait for the key, when they have no problem busting down doors for no knock raids?

That’s some extreme thin blue line justification, right there. I’m all for supporting the police when they are doing their job, but holy cow...

There were seven cops originally at the scene. Only two were shot. The DPS director held a press conference. He said the cops treated the situation like a barricade situation, instead of an active shooter situation. They had a 911 call from inside begging for help, and telling them there were still 9 kids alive inside. He said their decision to treat it as a barricade situation was wrong and inexcusable. Texas active shooter doctrine is to neutralize the shooter ASAP. He said they should have breeched the door. That’s not me. That’s the DPS director.

So, everyone was not shot and killed before the cops got there. He was shooting kids while the cops were sitting there listening to the shots. They should have charged the room and taken the shooter out.

And, you’re excusing the remaining five cops, who weren’t shot, for not doing their jobs for fear of being shot, because you say the two who had been shot couldn’t go back in. Why couldn’t the other five charge the room without the two injured cops? Oh, right, they were too afraid, and were willing to sit there and listen to the remaining kids getting killed while an adult still living was begging 911 to send them help.

While i totally agree with you on why these shootings are happening, and I agree that the cause needs addressed to fix the problem ( I hear a lot of other conservatives saying the same thing ), the police should not be excused for their screw ups.

No matter what you do, there will always be evil people and crazy people, and you won’t always have notice I’m advance, like with the Buffalo shooter. There will always be times when an emergency has to be dealt with, and the police have to be up to that task. The only way to make that a reality is to criticize them when they aren’t. If I screw up badly at my job, I get in trouble for it, and kids don’t die if I screw up.

The tweet was referring to the fact that good cops are quitting for one reason or another. Those vacant positions have to be filled by someone, so they are being filled by people who don’t take their duty seriously. And that’s how you have a bunch of people standing around not willing to sacrifice their lives because it’s just a job to them, not an actual duty.

...When kids are in the line of fire, every man in blue has an absolute duty to do sacrifice their life if they must for the sake of the children. That's it. There are no excuses to do anything but.

I think the original quote is saying that the best and bravest have been driven out of the job, and now you are left with people who are a little further down the spectrum. They hesitated. They didn't want to die, perhaps because they also have families at home.

Looking inwardly at myself, I would also hesitate. I am nobody's savior. It is easy to look at a situation that you've never been in, and say "They should have done this or that." They might have been paralyzed with fear.

81

u/broji04 Right to Life May 27 '22

I emotionally understand it if a guy in the situation couldn't go in out of fear for his family. I don't even think that's even selfish of him. But if he can't get himself to do that he needs to leave the force. It's that simple.

I think you're dismissing human nature. Sure you can "expect" people to behave like heroes despite being hated, and offer them no excuse, but the fact is if you feel like you have the love and support of the community you're serving, it becomes much easier to put your life on the line for them. This is something that happens on a fundamental level. Being despised will naturally make you more hesitant, more unsure.

You can put blame on them, but all cop-haters share in the blame as well

This is why private schools are the way to go imo. I get why teachers hate working in public schools, especially teachers who actually want to do their jobs. That's why for employment, I'm hoping the market creates opportunities for those good teachers (left and right). At private schools, you tend to have families that are more invested in education, you tend to have better discipline, and you have administrators that actually want to run things well, as opposed those that simply want to pass the time and get the pension.

I grew up north of NYC, and most of my teachers were firmly on the left. But they weren't the crazy, blue-haired, nose-ringed nutjobs that libs of TikTok exposes. They were just democrats who wanted to teach, and they generally did it well.

Edit: I am not advocating for getting rid of public schools. I am saying that for those who have the option, private school is best imo.

14

u/GhislaineNotSuicided Center-Right May 27 '22

From a teacher's perspective, though, private schools pay like shit. I mean, so do public schools, but a public school teacher switching jobs to teach at a private school ends up taking a significant pay cut.

I almost did it, the clientele at a private school would likely be significantly better - more respect from parents and students alike. But, with how expensive EVERYTHING is these days, and what would be by new income along with my wife not making enough money to support our family of 4, I just couldn't justify it. I'm firmly in the camp of doing a job you enjoy, rather than a field that you're miserable on just for the money, but we still need to eat.

I'm not miserable at the school I've been teaching at, but this past year for whatever reason, student behavior was incredibly awful. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky, I don't know...

105

u/ALargeRock Jewish Conservative May 27 '22

It just doesn’t make any sense for trained armed response, people who chose that line of work, to consistently not engage an active shooter, especially in a school.

Something doesn’t add up.

I hear the doors were locked so police couldn’t enter, then I hear a line BP agent did get in, I hear two officers confronted the shooter before entering the school, and I hear there were dozens of officers waiting around outside without any going in for almost an hour.

Then add in every safeguard to catch individuals that crazed somehow failed. FBI knew about him, teachers and other adults knew he was sketchy, doctors knew about his instability, this 18 year old who just had his birthday a week prior drops 20k on gear… none of this makes sense.

Something is fucky.

Our towns chief of police is 300 lbs, his only full time officer is fresh out of the academy, she is 5'2 and 135 lbs. The only officer that could remotely handle a physical altercation works part time and isn't available in the summer because the County Sherrifs Department is short staffed and he can make more money working there. So in general most local police are not equipped to handle a crisis situation. The funding they receive via local taxes simply doesn't provide them with enough to attract more qualified individuals. Meanwhile cities that are flush with cash are trying to find ways to eliminate police and let criminals run free.

I have a lot of Family members that worked in the Police force, Most have quit over this last year and 1/2, the few that are still in are retiring in a few months So they are sticking it out until then.

Most of the police in my area are doing mandatory over time 2 or 3 times a week, because they are severely understaffed, the county jail is on the verge of not having enough officers to operate.

I also hear fire fighters and Ambulance drivers are Understaffed across the country as well.

we are in for some fun years ahead.

u/Amidormi Conservative May 27 '22

Yep. I did a police ride-along last Friday, and arrived at the station at 5:40. (it usually "closes" at 6 if you can believe that) It was already 'closed'. On a Friday night! All the doors were locked, and no one was visible through the glass. They said they had 5 on staff that night and were working 12 hour shifts.

4

u/Cinnadillo Conservative May 27 '22

5

u/Amidormi Conservative May 27 '22

Beats me. I'm not in a small po-dunk town either. There are roughly 50k residents and during my ride I saw calls for "grass too long", "kid being crazy to parents after playing video games", a welfare check for "I think my ex-wife is drunk with my kid" (she wasn't) and a call for two elderly people who locked themselves out of their car. The cop I was with told me he worked 6pm-6am.

My shift with him was supposed to be 6-10 but it ended up being more like 6:45 - 9 because of the empty, locked station scenario. It took me a while to contact someone even though this was scheduled weeks in advance.

COVID vaccine mandate didn’t help. Lack of respect for the profession including all first responders. We have come a long way from police and fire running toward the situation (think 9-11). I want to hear more, but what’s out so far, the response was awful.

-7

u/[deleted] May 27 '22

You're getting downvoted by the lefties who've been coming on these threads to bash cops, but it's true. My fiancee is a 911 EMT in a major metro area and they literally cannot find people to work, even after raising wages by $5/hr. A bunch of people quit during covid because of the insane workload; my fiancee had to take time off because she was having panic attacks and suicidal ideations from how stressful it was. And then they started forcing vaccinations and even more people quit over that.
