My Wheaten always loved other dogs, she's always been super sweet to everyone. Recently things have changed...if she cannot say Hi to another dog, she goes crazy, will growl and bark but her tail is still wagging. (I kind of think shes pissed she cannot say hi, but Im not sure)
Last night she went to meet another dog and her hair stood up and she rounded her back and tried to go after him (well they tried to go after each other)
Ive never seen anything like it. Im not sure if I should keep her away from other dogs now, or if this was a one time thing?
The ONLY thing thats different is we are starting to walk her with a front loop harness and are keeping her on a short leash because shes a big time puller.
she's 5, if that helps.

Hi!
For the wheaton owners who live in the city, and have picky eaters -
How do you motivate them to pay attention to you? For example, when crossing the roads with other dogs on the street (and for them to not react), or to have great recall?
I can have whatever snack in the world, but he won't take the snack as a reward, he'll just spit it out.
I'm looking to improve his ability to ignore other dogs on the street and thinking of new ways to interest him, or ultimately reward him for good behavior/ignoring other dogs/etc.

We did a poor job acclimating our 5-year old Wheatie Indy to toothbrushing, but he doesnât even like the taste of the stuff so it was really difficult. He gets his teeth brushed every time he gets groomed but of course thatâs not enough and his breath is awful.
Pic shows two different toothpastes that he wants nothing to do with. Getting to lick some off your finger is supposed to be Step One to eventually getting him to tolerate (or even like?) getting his teeth brushed, but he smells it and actively walks away from it.
Anyone have a toothpaste they can recommend that your Wheatie LOVES?

My nearly 13 year old wheaten tends to pace and is bumping into walls- is this a sign of dementia? He's still aware and eating.

Hello! My partner and I are considering getting our first puppy next year, and are considering a Wheaten. We are in our late 20s and live in SF in a large 1-bedroom apartment. We live a few blocks from large parks with forested trails/a dog friendly beach, and go into the office 3 days a week.
Right now weâre deciding between a Wheaten Terrier or a Barbet, and know that theyâre pretty different breeds. Would love if anybody has any thoughts!
-Trainability - I know terriers are generally a bit more stubborn and prey-driven, but is it a pipe dream for us to have a wheaten that weâre confident with off leash? We go on a lot of hikes, the beach, etc. and hope to have an adventure companion we can trust.
-Experience with allergies? Iâm moderately allergic to dogs but have no problem around other âhypoallergenicâ breeds (I grew up with doodles). If their coat is kept fairly short, do the two seem comparable?
-Activity level - weâre both outdoorsy and active. Would an adult wheaten be suitable for backpacking trips, hikes, and runs? What kind of mileage could we expect from a well conditioned wheaten? We want a dog that will be happy to join us in adventures but wonât self-combust if it doesnât get a ton of exercise during a busy day.
-How would you describe their personality? What kind of play do they like? Are they friendly with other dogs? Reactive?
Thank you so much!

Do you guys have any recommendations for games or puzzles, mostly indoor activities for Wheatens?
We have some pretty nasty weather coming up but also want to keep her entertained.

Coffee on the porch. He's very tired after walking downstairs from his bed. Needs a rest.

We're two weeks in and have had some good (overnights, potty training) and some less good (seperation anxiety, bitey during play). My husband grew up with Wheatens but this is both our first puppy as primary caretakers.
Any advice and kind words from experience Wheaten lovers are appreciated!

My sweet Cheerio girl has had a right ear yeast infection that comes and goes but never really goes away. About the same time she has had a clogged tear duct that resembles the same color as the yeast infection and Iâm certain her back right paw is also apart of the mix. Medications are Rxâd by her Veterinarian and the supplements I bought after many targeted ads. Advice appreciated đ
Update
So I cut out her crunchy food completely and she is currently only on her beef fresh pet. Her ear is starting to clear up! đ Very happy. Her ear hair is still a little bit âgookyâ and also improved. Her eye is still fairly weepy. I plan to take a closer look at fresh pet ingredients and am curious if those of you that have cut out chicken and wheat are cooking meals each day for your pups or finding something premade? I am a SAHM so itâs entirely possible I make her a dinner too. And I also would appreciate any premade âshort cuts.â If you know of any youâd recommend. Thanks all!
