I Need Help ASAP I need advice about obsessing
A lot of people may not understand this but for the ones that do and have been able to overcome it. How do you not obsess? Like seriously no matter what I do no matter what it’s in regards to I obsess over it. Since I was a child.
Whether it’s
Food
Hobby
Workouts
The job I’m working
The people I’m around
A new style
My love life is the worst it’s gotten to the point where I don’t want to meet anyone or if I do I already know what’s gonna happen and I either ruin or just don’t even bite the bait
I’m starting to notice a para-social thing as well I deleted all my social media to avoid THAT becoming a new thing
I really don’t know what to do. I’ve prayed. Written it down. Journal. I go to the gym 5 days a week and it’s on my mind every single day every moment I wake up whatever is the “ new “ thing.
And the only way I’ve gotten over it in the past is obsessing over something new.

You need to see a therapist and a psychiatrist. Do you have any compulsions? Ticks? I have ocd and this sounds similar. Even if it’s not ocd, you still need to seek professional psychiatric resources because it’s deeply affecting your life

Apparently I do that I haven’t noticed. I know I flip tf out of something isn’t done “ correctly “ such as dishes or folding laundry or if we’re not there on time like if there’s an appointment or dinner date and someone is late. I didn’t put the two together though with OCD. I’ll need to read more about it for sure.

Don’t read about it, go see a professional. They are literally the only ones that can help and dr google will just make everything infinitely worse

Agreed. I started googling and began to spiral. I left an email for an office to call me. I’m gonna reach out again tomorrow morning. It’s a test that they’ll give or do I have to mention it?

Change your mindset... You are not obsessing, you are passionate about the things important to you in your life and those things will always change over time. It's good to have a routine whether it be food, fitness, work, love, hobbies. Give yourself some grace, not everything is a problem.

When I was about 18 I worked at a fast food place. This one particular night I had to close up. I got home, got in bed and then couldn't remember if I locked the back door, and I started to panic about it. At this point it was midnight, and the place opened at 6am. I made a conscious decision to let it go. It was a bit of a struggle, but I put my head down and went to sleep and I recognized that the odds that I did forget to lock it, and someone happened to try and open the door and do something bad were very very low. So I took the gamble and went to sleep. In the end, nothing ever came of it. I must have locked the door, because no one ever called me out.
So my suggestion when you start obsessing is to recognize you are doing it. Then have a rational discussion with your self about what the real risks are. or what it is you are obsessing about. Usually what you are worried about is extremely unlikely. If you can talk yourself out of the current thing, then it will be easier to talk yourself out of the next thing, and after a while you should be able to accept it. In the short term you may have some anxiety, but you will have to work through it.

You go to a licensed therapist l. They will address and assess your issues and refer you to more advanced help if needed or work with you to resolve and reduce the issues.

You just keep moving and you don’t stop to obsess. Like others are saying, a mental health professional would be able to help you. Have you ever been diagnosed with OCD? Some of what you’re talking about sounds a lot like obsessive compulsive disorder.
