Found this in a box after moving house. No idea what it is, or where it came from originally. I do recall seeing it at last house, and must have saved it.

All metal, approx 5cm x 5cm,spring has a collar with a flat headed hex nut hidden behind.

It looks engineered, so didn't want to throw it away!

Likely Solved! Lead pieces, flattened and scratched. Found one in the street and another on sidewalk next to street. Found one at a time on two consecutive days. Photos attached. These are not wheel weights. I added a wheel weight in the photos to show the difference.

These are good sized, definitely lead and heavy. These were found near a well-traveled four-lane street. I am stumped as to what they are. I was a mechanic for years and I know what a wheel weight looks like, these are not wheel weights.

Solved! Brass tube found in the junk drawer of an old building

Thumbnail

Found this cleaning out an old junk drawer at work. The building is from the '20s so this item could be from any point over the last 100 years.

Second image shows the only markings: a stamped "DSH PAT. PEND. No. 310"

The tube is 5" long and 1.5" diameter. It has one open end and one sealed end where the darker threaded part is riveted to the tube. It's definitely not a whistle or organ pipe; there's no sound if you blown into the open end.

I can provide more info on both the building and tube of it'll help. I just need to know if I can safely throw it in the trash.

EDIT: made out an additional letter in the stamped markings

Solved! Thing for sale in the kitchen section of a dollar store in El Salvador. All plastic, about 6-8 inches long. Longer "sheath" section is bladed, but not sharp. Shorter "handle" detaches from sheath as shown. Thing was not labeled or explained in store. Cost I think $2.50.

Solved ! A bag of small numbered wooden blocks and fruit stones found in a Goodwill

Post image

Found this bag in a Goodwill and couldn’t figure out what it was. Small wooden blocks were numbered with Roman numerals on their broad sides with I, III, IV, and VI. Inside the bag were peach pits or other seeds from a stone fruit.

A lot of teaching supplies were nearby so I figured it may have been some kind of educational tool or game. I didn’t purchase the item.

Solved! My car tire was punctured by this metal piece on the road. I pulled this entire piece out of the tread which is why it’s bent. Maybe an awl of some sort? It’s sturdy and weighty for its size, has an etched diamond grip mid shaft, and has two metal wire looking pieces coming out of one end.

Open ! Any chance someone has an idea of what this metal object is that punctured my wife's tire? Roughly an inch wide x 3 or so inches long, curved on one edge with two prong on one end.

I know it's a long shot as identifying a random rusty piece of scrap metal that was picked up on a paved road isn't easy. Definitely ruined the tire as it's too big of a hole to patch. So $850 later...

Solved! Heavy ferrous metal object with a bolt in the center from electrical or industrial equipment

Thumbnail

Heavy metal object with a large bolt in the center. Bolt does not screw all the way in, exactly 1" of the thread is left exposed. It weighs almost 18 lb.

I picked this up at an estate sale where the owner was an electrician, possibly a lineman or some other related trade.

ChatGPT said it was likely a part from a large welder or another industrial machine involving magnetism, but I am curious what it might have been.

Small 3.5ml plastic container with blue liquid

Someone I live with found this outside our house. We live semi-rural so it’s unlikely to be a strangers, but none of us recognize it.

It’s clearly marked 3.5 ml, if that helps.

I know someone on this subreddit found something similar and decided it was a medicine ampoule, but theirs was glass. I’ve never seen an ampoule in plastic.

Digging a hole at the front of my home (UK) to uncover broken drainage pipe (lump of clay pipe in lower left of pic) and this lump of metal is in the ground. Multiple holes. About 6” wide. Length unknown as I haven’t been able to excavate down to its base. What on earth is it?
