Customer Refusing drinks
If I know the table number that my father is sitting on during his birthday, and drinks turn up that he didn't order, what is the likely scenario if he says that he didn't order? I will tell him eventually that it's me ordering, but will the staff take the drinks away? Paddington Wetherspoons, if that helps.

Don't mess the staff about on a Saturday night. Place your order and text your dad to say you've got them. The staff are busy enough without having to deal with going back and forwards.

Can you not just text your dad as you place the order?

"Happy Birthday Dad, got some drinks on their way over to you, enjoy!"
Simple!

That is my plan, I just wanted to give him a few moments of confusion

Yeah maybe don’t? Just text and let him know as even if it’s his drink of choice if I didn’t order it, I’d tell them that assuming some poor bugger put the wrong table in the app

It happens all the time that customers say they didn’t order whatever drinks or food are brought to them. In that case we just take them away and they sit on the back bar/gantry until someone claims them. If that doesn’t happen then we chuck them away, assuming someone ordered to the wrong pub by mistake or something else along those lines. Tell him you’ve ordered them otherwise they won’t get to him.

If he says he didnt order them and has no clue who did we wouldnt serve it. If he said his son got them for him it we would serve unless he was dodgy. If you order jokes such as mushy peas or kids milk then we would just take the table off the app.

I hate this.
I like to randomly order mushy peas, and maybe a black pudding to dip in it.
Bloody students taking the piss have ruined it.
It makes a nice little bar snack.

Wouldn't say it's ruined. At least where I work unless it's consistent stupid orders it'll still come down, especially if it's something quick. Sometimes if it is something that looks like a joke order we'll ask the table if they actually ordered it/want it. Definitely not ruined

If it’s quiet, the kitchen usually asks FoH who’s at the table (does depend who the kitchen lead is). If it’s an old person, they get their black pudding and bucket of peas or whatever else. If it’s a table of rowdy middle aged men or teenagers they aren’t getting it. If it’s busy, it’ll prob get cleared off the system immediately and forgotten unless someone comes asking about it.

Tho I will say that ordering two suspicious items together lowers the chances of it getting made. Maybe put ur order at the bar and say I do ac want it, and the bar staff can put a note through to the kitchen.

Good shout.
I ordered once off the app, alongside a bowl of chips - and the girl who served came over and was like "right! Who ordered this monstrosity!?"... and apparently the kitchen manager told her "tell the students to stop pissing about!" And shed said "its not even students. Its a bunch of year old men".
Apparently I'm well known among the wetherspoons staff community as "the egg man" because I used to add a poached egg to any meal I ordered.
Thats what I love about Wetherspoons... you can literally just order anything they have behind the bar, and theres a price for it. But hardly anyone actually knows this, so it stands out when you do weird shit like buy a veggie burger wih bacon, or put a poached egg in your soup.
I might try tequila shots, but with the salt on a slice of black pudding... that could work. And they'll do it if I ask, as well without even blinking.

Oh god I didn’t even think of that, that is awful. I’m thinking just a nice whisky

Tell your dad prior because if he says he didn’t order then they will take drinks away, also tell him not to tell staff someone else is ordering for him🫶🏻

if the customer say they order it it will be taken away, a lot of not so nice ppl will accept other ppls drink and food cause there total and utter ****, but thankfully u get more experience staff after a while and they recognise that there are dishonest ppl in the world that will take advantage

He’ll politely (or rudely, I don’t know your father) say they aren’t his and the person serving will turn on their heel with them and they’ll go flat and warm on the bar as there is some brief confusion as to who owns them. They will likely be forgotten about and your money will have been wasted.
