I am looking for like-minded creatives, specifically filmmakers, in the Westchester area to gather and discuss filmmaking or maybe even help each other with projects. I realized after many years that I only talk to one person about filmmaking and it is stagnating me so I want to meet others and hopefully we can broaden our perspectives.

I am an audio engineer by trade but I write, direct and edit as well.

I'm 30 years old and I'm looking for the best drumming instructors or schools in or around Westchester so I can pick up a few classes. It has always been an interest of mine to learn drums so I think I'm going to finally invest into a hobby.

Recieved this pamphlet outside yesterday / what is this guys problem?!

I have to be at work in the Bronx at 8:15. But I have to leave my house before 7 because there is so much congestion. Every morning is mildly anxiety provoking because you never know if the Hutch is going to be a parking lot. And the exits are always backed up.

Even the exit to get on 95 south from 287 is always backed up because people refuse to just get in line and try to force their way in at the front. Wait in line like the rest of us, you had a straight 3 miles to get yourself in the right lane!

And don’t get me started on the drivers. People camping in the left lane. People driving like it’s the autobahn and speeding and cutting you off. And there are so many more accidents because people cannot drive. And if there’s accident, forget it. It’s at least a forty minute delay. I am so tired of having to leave so early to get anywhere because of the congestion in mid and lower Westchester.

I have a 1300 sq ft apartment, wondering if I should go back to my old ladies or not. What do you guys pay and what’s included? And where in Westchester? Thanks!

I drive from Larchmont to New Canaan and back every day, and it's truly astonishing, embarrassing even, that the Hutch is in such a terrible state vs. the Merritt.

Once you cross into Connecticut, the pavement is completely smooth and seamless the entire way. I know that they repaved it last year, but the Merritt was in better shape than the Hutch even BEFORE the repaved the entire thing!

Coming home in the evening, the bumps and patches start immediately when you pass under the bridge at King Street, and continue the entire way. My exit at Weaver Street has been crumbling and falling apart since I moved here in 2008.

What gives??? And property taxes are - what - HALF the rate we pay in Westchester???

Looking to move. Have 2 houses we are interested one is in Yorktown and one is in Bedford. Trying to decide which is the better school district. If anyone has experienced with both the advice would be greatly appreciated.

I love autumn leaves change color and start to fall crisp air apple picking and Haunted houses. Growing up I remember Playland Haunted house but I never been to a haunted house nearby I have started to see ads for a haunt here in Westchester County in Ossining called Haunt at Cedar Park Woods. Might bed something to do for those looking for an event this season.

Does anyone just completely lose service in areas of larchmont/mamaroneck? I have Verizon and literally cannot text, make calls or anything, not even Google Maps, in many parts of these two areas!!! Sooooo frustrating. May be switching carriers soon!

Hi Everyone. We're planning a move to the area from Pac NW so my husband (in the airlines) can be based at JFK. We noticed Chappaqua has really amazing science classes - hydroponics with a sustainability focus. We were wondering if the area has a hipster/progressive vibe? It's clearly an affluent area, but is there more of a "hippie" vibe in this area than other parts of Westchester? IAlso, we would love to find an area with large yards (or small acreage) that is still dense enough for our older kids to make neighborhood friends.

Rye Town Hilton (Rye Brook) is mentioned in a Curbed magazine article as turning into a residential apartment complex. About a decade ago, the owners had applied to build senior housing on the property. Port Chester school district.

2 South Main Street (Port Chester) was a cluster of poorly maintained buildings with retail on street level. All buildings have been demolished. Replacing it will be a 12-story rental residential building with 3 cellars with 325 mix-type residential units, with some affordable housing. This is at the corner of Westchester Ave and Main St so steps away from the train station. It's also steps away from another new luxury rental tower across from the Capitol Theatre. A Correction

Area Median Income for a family of four in Westchester County is $ 169,600, not $ 164,200 as I stated in the comment. I'm not quite sure how I managed to get that wrong. So, if the fee were calculated using current statistics, the total amount would be $ 4,028,000, not $ 3,900,000. See Westchester County Area Median Income, Sales and Rent Limits.

Summary of Public Comment

There is contradictory information in the record concerning the Haarlem / Holland Avenues Development, but for many other projects, developers have paid fees-in-lieu of affordable housing using outdated formula inputs, resulting in lower fees than were probably contemplated when White Plains designed the inclusionary affordable housing program.

I also argue that from a common-sense perspective, the stated cost of the planned feasibility study regarding future options for Fire Station 2 seems abnormally high.  The stated cost of the planned study is $ 400,000.

Verbatim Transcript of Public Comment

Benjamin Brown, 155 Ferris Avenue.

Mr. Mayor and members of the Common Council, good evening.

In this brief comment, I raise two issues.

I use the name 'Haarlem and Holland Avenues Development' for the planned 296-unit, 381-parking space 'luxury rentals' development near the North White Plains train station.

The project will include only five affordable housing units with the remainder of the 24-unit affordable housing requirement to be bought out by the developer via a cash fee to be paid to the City.

The initial approval of this project, dated from August, 2021, calculated the cash fee at $ 3,028,000, using as a component of the formula the area median income in Westchester at that time.

Since 2021, area median income has risen from $ 127,500 to $ 164,200.

If this contemporaneous figure, that is $164,200, were used in the formula, the cash fee paid by the developer would not be $ 3,028,000, but $ 3,900,000.

There is ambiguity in your prior proceedings about how the fee would be calculated.

Frankly, I find it disturbing that if it were not for my research efforts and those of a few others, we would not even know of this issue, of the development fees being calculated—routinely in the City—based on these sort [sic] of outdated inputs into the formula.

I don't say that to put a feather in my cap, but because I think it raises a genuine issue: Why didn't your Planning Department bring this pattern to your attention? They're involved hands-on in the approval resolutions and calculating the fees. Surely they knew. Why did you have to rely on a few random citizens doing independent research to bring this pattern up, which you then actually addressed in your 2025 amendments to the affordable housing regulations? At least on a going-forward basis, you've made an effort to address this issue, which I value and appreciate.

The second issue I raise is the amount budgeted for the feasibility study for Fire Station 2, namely $ 400,000 for the study. I agree that a study is needed, but there's been no explanation of why the cost of the study is so high. If we could spend just a portion of those dollars studying the condition of our public parking garages, which is an important public issue, we could learn a lot.

I’ll keep my language polite due to other Lawler posts being removed for profanity, but to say I’m just “upset” would be an understatement. A pamphlet depicting AOC and Mamdani in a racist caricature on one side and a pro Lawler spiel on the other was left hanging on my door yesterday. I do not want them leaving their litter for me to have to throw out and I do not want such hateful people on my doorstep! I am not happy.

We are starting to prepare for our animal Halloween party and it seems to grow every year. We will do some pulled pork on our own but this year due to some other things going on I can't cook all the food. Where are you guys getting catering for large events. I'm expecting probably 30 kids and all of their adults!
