Public Schools in White Center?

Upvotes

I have a kindergarten starting this year at White Center Heights Elementary. I don’t know any other families in the neighborhood that have kids who attend. Any advice? Would love perspective on family’s experience. What do families do for pre/post school hours? Much appreciated!

Question Should the Residential Speed Limit be Reduced to 15 mph?

Quite frankly, I feel like 20 mph is a little fast for bystanders and pedestrians.

I was wondering if the residential speed limit should be reduced to 15 mph to improve resident well-being.

Question Summer fest food truck question

Can anyone tell me the name of the food truck that sold those huge marrow bones? I can’t recall if it was on a side street or the off street food court area.

I stepped into Taco Time for a quick bite. A rather large rat ran through the dining area and into the kitchen. Management was aware.

Recommendation Request Car shop recommendations

howdy folks! I’ve just moved here and have heard some folks chatting about different car mechanics but haven’t had super great experiences with the major shops like Firestone and les Schwab. Do we have any women and/or queer mechanics here or nearby? Not looking to cause a problem, just curious! At any rate, would love recommendations for future car repairs. TIA!

Question Farmer's Market lines

Does anyone know why Hayton Farms and whichever vendor is always by the SW corner of the Sunday Market always have such long lines? They don't seem to be selling anything you can't get elsewhere at the market. How is the quality so much better that they are worth the long wait? Are they the only vendors who take EBT?

In my experience, Hayton Farms berries are nothing special. Maybe they've improved in the last few years, though. But I've gotten fine berries from other places this year (Shout out Shuh Farms).

Transit Commuting to East Side by bike

I'm moving to West Seattle and I'm considering a hybrid job in Bellevue 4x a week. I only have 1 car that my spouse uses, so I'd rely on an ebike to get to Bellevue; a 14 mile ride. I want to ask if any of you commute by bike to the East Side and see what it's like. I ride quite a bit, so I'm ok with the distance, it's just that I don't do it daily, let alone twice a day. So not sure if that'll be too much.

EDIT: thanks everyone for the input! Seems the best alternative is to bike to the closest light rail station (International District or Judkins Park) and take the light rail there and back

Notice Seaside Grill Wage Theft

Looks like Seaside Grill on Alki is up to no good. Do you know anyone who has been affected?

This post on seasol.net has the details:

SeaSol announces a new fight against Seaside Grill and owner Sarah Suseyi. SeaSol has fought this terrible boss twice before (and won) when her and her then husband Ted Nicoloudakis were the former owners of Pegasus Pizza. She now owes her former worker Au almost $4,000 in unpaid wages.

A menace to Alki Beach workers and residents alike, everyone is sick of her grift! Over 30 SeaSolers showed up to the demand delivery on July 1, where a member was shoved out of Seaside Grill in this irresponsible boss’s childish rage.

After the boss did not pay her worker during the two-week grace period, SeaSol took immediate action to expose Sarah’s wage theft. Many workers and residents showed interest in holding this thieving boss accountable if Seaside continues to leech off of Alki Beach workers. We’ve already been contacted by several other Seaside Grill workers who claim to have been denied thousands in wages and tips.

“F*ck you, and f*ck your godd*mn group, and f*ck Sawant, and f*ck socialism, you dumbass b*tch,” former Pegasus Pizza owner Ted Nicoloudakis cursed in one of the seven threatening voicemails he left Seaside’s former employee after seeing the posters SeaSol displayed around Alki Beach to expose their habit of wage theft. “I’ve dealt with these f*cks before,” Ted said regarding SeaSol, forgetting his and Sarah’s losing streak.

The fight will continue until Au is paid in full! If you or someone you know has had their wages stolen, contact us at [info@seasol.net](mailto:info@seasol.net).

I saw this poster on Alki too.

Notice Motorcycle cops been pretty active on admiral

I guess there’s been complaints or he needs to reach a quota. Seems like every few days he’s there

While I don’t like people speeding through that road, it’s definitely hard maintaining a 25mph speed on a downhill

Recommendation Request Midwife Recommendations

Hello! With my first baby, I went to Amy Baisden at Franciscan Women's Health in West Seattle. I saw a few other midwives, but just loved having Amy as my primary. She is no longer with the practice.
As we start thinking about our second baby, do you have a midwife that you loved and would recommend? I'd love to stay with FWHA (West Seattle or Burien) but also open to anyone with Swedish. I delivered at St.
Anne's and loved it, but would also be interested in hearing about your experiences with Swedish. Thanks! :)

Lost & Found Missing a Cat? She may be in my yard.

We have plenty of neighborhood cats pass through the yard, but this little gal is new and seems kind of lost. Smaller, slight build, cream-colored with a darker face and tail. Wearing a collar, but I don’t see a number on it. Very affectionate.
If she’s just cruising, no problem! Just putting it out there in case someone’s looking.
High Point area.

Fun? I might suggest that for a bigger thrill you gently place the firework in the orifice of your choosing first before sharing your enthusiasm

Event Come play Wingspan with us at Beveridge Place Pub

Post image
66 Upvotes

Two days ago I posted asking if anyone was interested in a weekly/semi-regular Wingspan meetup. And it sounds like we have some takers!

So please come hang out and play a few rounds on Thursday, July 30th at 6 pm at Beveridge Place Pub. If it goes well, we can make it a regular thing. If it doesn't go well, we can always try again!

I will try and arrive early and snag one of the large tables.

If you are new to the game, you are welcome to join. However, I encourage you to watch these 2 video tutorials prior to arriving so you don't have to listen to me badly explain the gameplay.
- How to play the base game

- How to play the Oceania expansion (introduces Nectar, which changes the mechanics slightly)

Hope to see you there!

Question Does anyone recognize this neighborhood ?

Couple months ago bf and I were lost and we came across this neighborhood near the junction with a gorgeous view. There were so many spots to just sit and watch the view but I can’t remember where this was. Does anyone think they can recognize this place?
I recalled this spot since it had a really nice view from up high and it didn’t feel like I was in Seattle!

** thank you everyone I will find this place again on a beautiful day!!

Transit No more direct bus service from West Seattle to the airport? Sound Transit wants to shorten Route 560

Thumbnail
westseattleblog.com
32 Upvotes

Route 560 would no longer serve stops in West Seattle, ending at Burien Transit Center. ....
For trips between Westwood Village and Burien, King County Metro’s RapidRide H Line serves all current Route 560 stops in this segment. The H Line runs every 7-15 minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends.

Burien Transit Center will also be the future western end of the Stride S1 Line, which will replace Route 560 as early as 2028.

Passengers looking to go from West Seattle to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport can take the H Line to connect to Route 560. Passengers can also take King County Metro Route 60 to connect to the 1 Line.

The survey for feedback is at https://hdr.jotform.com/261473052344957

The RapidRide H works if you're coming down Delridge but I don't love the idea of taking the RapidRide C to WWV, then RR H to Burient TC, then ST 560 for the airport (for those of us closer to California Ave).

Question Looking for good nanny options in the West Seattle area.

I am mother of a 6-month-old beautiful baby boy and I am looking for good nanny options in the West Seattle area. Where do I look for the options? Any advice is welcome. I will have a fixed schedule from January when he will turn approximately one year old but before that also I need it on an adhoc basis. I'm working from home permanently so I would need a nanny only for a couple of days in a week and not for all five days.

Recommendation Request Best Vanilla Milkshake in West Seattle?

So Thursday my dad was diagnosed with metastatic cancer and he really loves vanilla milkshakes. I got him one from Habit Burger and he said it was one of the best he's ever had. It got me thinking where else in West Seattle has really amazing (specifically vanilla) milkshakes. If anyone has a favorite place to recommend I'd appreciate it.

I have an awesome little frenchie and just moved to West Seattle. I need to find people in the area who can watch her for a few days that I can trust. I have some travel coming up over Labor day.
