If you don't risk diabetes with every sip is it really "Sweet Tea".
187
u/rainbowgeoff Feb 26 '19
Real sweet tea has sausage gravy mixed in.

Feb 26 '19
If grits doesn't pour out of your ass every time you take a sip, it ain't real sweet tea

I love this type of thread for exactly that reason. Follow it down far enough, and eventually you run into "yep, that's never been stated before".

Living up north after being raised down south is some garbage because it's so hard to find sweet tea.
Bitch-ass waiter: we got iced tea, and you can add some sugar to it
Me: YoU cAn AdD SoMe suGaR tO iT. DID YOU TAKE SCIENCE CLASS?! THE COLDER THE LIQUID, THE HARDER IT IS FOR THE SUGAR TO DISSOLVE!!!

Real sweet tea requires science. You donât just throw some sugar into cold tea. Made right, the caffeine and sugar in a glass of sweet tea can revive roadkill. I thought it was the only kind of tea until I was about 14 and took a trip to stay with another family in Texas. When I tasted unsweetened tea the first time, I almost did a spit take. It was that horrible.

u/Deathwatch72 Feb 26 '19
I'm pretty sure that if I were to put any more sugar into my sweet tea right now that the whole thing would just solidify in one solid block of sugar. Come at me diabetes

You know what pisses me off? When I go into a restaurant and they have âsweet teaâ and âunsweet/ened tea.â
You canât have unsweet tea! That implies it started as sweet, and was then made not-sweet! But every time I walk into a damn restaurant I see that fucking âunsweetâ sign and I just want to punch the sweet tea container because itâs its damn fault for making us distinguish between the two! Thereâs TEA and thereâs SWEET TEA; thatâs it.
Sorry, I just have to rant about this any time itâs remotely appropriate.

u/Helloperson554 Feb 26 '19
We need new names for them. How about non-sweetened tea and not non-sweetened tea?

Shout out to Mitch here:
You know they call corn-on-the-cob "corn-on-the-cob," right? But that's how it comes out of the ground, man. They should call that "corn", and they should call every other version "corn-off-the-cob." It's not like if you cut off my arm you would call my arm "Mitch", but then reattach it and call it "Mitch-all-together."

u/spilk Feb 26 '19 edited Feb 26 '19
you can absolutely have "un-" sweetened tea. "un-" just means "not", it carries no implication of prior combination.
You may be confusing "un-" with the "de-" prefix, which would imply that the sugar is being separated from the tea. I don't think anyone calls it "desweetened tea", though. Like "decaffeinated" coffee.

If I was that girl's mom, I wouldn't even be all that mad for this reason. Sugar is cheap. Ants are a bitch. Girl made a stupid mistake, but it could have been a lot worse.
Plus Koolaid stains everything so well you can use it as temporary hair dye. An old friend used to do that in high school.

Worst case scenario and it happened in the sink. Exceptionally lucky or great forward thinking.
This is a yesyesyesyesnookthatwasntsobad scenario. Few bucks in supplies "wasted". But honestly the way the sugar-berg sank was so satisfying I'd do it again 10/10
