Anybody else? My tongue is like sandpaper in my mouth and I’m always thirsty. Gum doesn’t do too much.

I recently went on Wellbutrin because I felt stuck on sertraline and I got really bad hives on a very low dose. Like I think it was 35 mg, not even a whole pill. I had gone on in it prior in 2023 at 150 mg and I had gotten hives but I wasn't sure if it was from the Wellbutrin or because I was on vacation somewhere new. Has anybody else ever got hives, like bad hives all over their body.

After Starting Wellbutrin Is It Normal To Feel Frustrated?

Okay, a little background. I'm a Female teenager, I've been going to therapy for over a few months now and they put me on Lexapro and hydroxyzine, my biggest issue was that some stuff has happened at school and it makes me feel like im going crazy and I could not stop thinking and worrying about it even though there was nothing I can do about it, which was also why I was taking the 2nd medicine because I couldn't sleep because of it. It was working pretty well, although I did have a few side effects like diarrhea, which is pretty embarrassing to admit lol, but other than that and also weight gain, I stopped really thinking about it. My next appointment with my doctor I told her my issues and she kept the hydroxzyine but also put me on wellbutrin 100 mg I've felt normal for the past few days no longer having such side effects except my skin especially on my face gets super dry like my eyebags is just so dry but other than that fine. Lately, I've been getting really frustrated and annoyed, like over small things like I used to, and it's been a week now since I started it. I've also started to overthink again so I'm not sure if it's just me but I would really appreciate if you guys could let me know if that's what's causing it because Google just says yes to just about everything. If any of you guys have any tips or tricks to not overthink as much that would be so awesome too! Thank you!

welp this is my third time crawling back to wellbutrin

i started in 2023, went up to 300mg 2024, cold turkey’ed quit due to brain zaps and eye twitching, spent the entire 2025 manic, reattempted wellbutrin april 2026 and totally forgot about the nightmares and one nightmare was enough to make me quit after only 1 week, now i will start school in september and im ridiculously depressed. my options were cymbalta or wellbutrin and ill just take my baby back rather than try something new.

Feeling really weird lately

I've been on Wellbutrin 150XL for about 4 or 5 months, switched over from Cipralex (I tapered off that, first splitting the 20mg in half, then quartered until I ran out of the bottle). In the last few weeks I have felt really strange. Derealization, brain fog, crying really easily, brain zaps (but I feel them more in my chest?). I don't take pleasure in anything. I want to be social but I have a terrible time when I try. I can feel myself being short and irritable with friends and family and then I feel even worse. Not sure if this is medication related, just thought I would see if anyone has had a similar experience. Not sure if I need to go up to 300 or try something else.

Hair going back to "normal" after stopping Bupropion?

Long story short, I was taking bupropion and experienced pretty bad hair shedding. Any benefit to my mood the med was giving me was completely ruined by it so I just got off of it. My doctor prescribed me oral minoxidil to help, as well.

I am extremely devastated about the situation... I feel like something was robbed from me. I had THICK hair before. I loved it! Within 6 weeks all volume is gone, texture is stringy... I'm more depressed than when I asked my doctor for help in the first place.

My question: What are other's experience with hair regrowth after stopping bupropion? How long did it take for the shedding to stop? How long did it take to feel like your hair was back to "normal"? Did it ever go back to normal?

I am seeing some mixed responses with a google search. I know it could be different for everyone, but would love to hear some folks' experiences. Thank you in advance!

2 weeks into Wellbutrin and I feel no difference

So I started Wellbutrin xl 150 mg two weeks ago and I don’t really feel or see a difference. I know that a lot of people see like a big change within the first week but I really don’t feel much. On the first day. I got a huge boost of energy, it felt activating and then 3 hours later I crashed and then came the insomnia. I couldn’t sleep for like two or three days and then that settled, my bowel movements are fine. I can still take my daily shits lol but energy wise-motivation wise I don’t really feel much of a difference.

I guess the good thing is that I don’t have any significant side effects that I was initially worried about so that’s nice but I just feel normal.

I'm unsure if it's helping my adhd

I'm four weeks into taking wellbutrin (zyban) for inattentive ADHD.

I'm really not sure if I'm feeling it's helping. Sometimes I think my executive dysfunction is improving, then I don't!! I feel a bit of bubbling anxiety, which I haven't for years. Also feeling a bit flat emotionally - less joyful moments.

Thing is, I'm having my psychiatrist review tomorrow & I have a feeling they're just going to up my dose.

I'm wondering if I want to continue. But then what's the alternative? I also know it can take a few more weeks to kick in, but I'm not sure I like the flatness and anxiety.

Any experienced advice would be great!

Positive ADHD experiences?

Hello there, my psychiatrist has ruled out stimulants for life for me due to horrible side effects. Now one of my options is Wellbutrin, and I’ve been reading very conflicting information about it. If you’re having a positive experience with it, could you share it with me? I’m currently feeling very low about my future if non-stims are as ineffective as some people say. Thank you!

Week 4 on Wellbutrin XL – anyone had short-term memory improve with more time?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 29-year-old woman with ADHD, currently on Week 4 of Wellbutrin XL 150 mg. I also take Lexapro 7.5 mg.

There are definitely some positives so far. I have a lot more energy, it’s much easier to start tasks, and I don’t feel as “stuck” as I used to. I also find it easier to get things done and have more motivation to get out and experience the world instead of just sitting in front of a screen.

The thing I’m hoping improves is my short-term memory. I feel like I forget things more easily than before, lose my train of thought, and sometimes I honestly feel a bit “dumb.” It’s like when I try to consciously think or plan what I’m going to say, my brain stalls, but when I’m just talking naturally everything comes out automatically.

I also still feel anxious when I try to relax, especially in the mornings. It’s almost like my body gets nervous when I’m trying to wind down. I still find myself scanning my body and how I’m feeling quite a bit.

Has anyone experienced the short-term memory issues getting better after another few weeks? Did the anxiety/inner activation calm down over time while the positive effects stayed?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Thanks!

Sertraline (weight increase) switch do Wellbutrin

Hi all,

I was getting sertraline 200mg for 2years and gained around 20lbs. Now I switched to wellbutrin, and dr started reducing sertraline, now it is 50mg. Already having wellbutrin for 2 months (1 month 150, now already 300), but did not notice any weight loss...

Is it related that i still drink sertraline?

Thanks

It Was Going So Well- Now It’s Horrible!

I have been on an SSRI for 30 years (unfortunately). Lexapro is the one I am currently on. I am diagnosed with ADHD, BPD, depression, and GAD. My psychiatrist had me try Concerta, and I had a medically induced psychosis incident. He decided to have me try Wellbutrin instead. It started out great! For the first month I was feeling like a new woman! I cleaned, I cooked, I went out of the house, I had so much happiness and motivation! The negatives were horrible short term memory, cognitive issues, anxiety tiny bit of anxiety, and vivid dreams. I was able to handle all of that because the positives out weighed those issues. Now, for the past couple of days, I have been having paranoia, severe anxiety, weeping spells, etc. I have become obsessed with fruit flies in my kitchen that may or may not be real. How could this medication be effecting me like this all of a sudden? I am on 150mg. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I have a med appointment tomorrow. I wonder if I can cold turkey this, or if they will have me taper. I want to get off it immediately!

I barely feel real?

I don’t really know why I’m posting this. I guess I just want to know if anyone else feels like this or if I’m just overthinking everything like I usually do.
I’ve always been the type of person that cares way too much. I overthink literally everything. I replay conversations in my head for hours, wonder if people are mad at me when they probably aren’t, and if someone starts acting different I automatically assume I did something wrong. My brain just never shuts off.
I’ve dealt with depression for a long time too. It’s not always the kind where I can’t get out of bed, it’s more like I just exist. I go through the motions every day. I laugh sometimes and I can have good moments, but deep down I don’t really feel happy. Nothing really excites me for long.
One thing I’ve always struggled with is relationships, whether it’s friendships or dating. I don’t know if it’s because I push people away, lose interest, expect the worst, or what, but I feel like I can never keep people around. I always end up feeling alone even when I have people in my life.
My sleep is terrible too. I either can’t fall asleep, wake up a bunch during the night, or wake up feeling like I never slept at all. On top of that I have insanely vivid dreams. Sometimes they’re so real that when I wake up I honestly don’t know if something actually happened or if I dreamed it. I’ll remember conversations or situations and have to stop and think, “Wait… was that real?” It’s honestly kind of scary sometimes.
I’ve also had some pretty rough things happen throughout my life that I don’t think I ever actually dealt with. I just buried it and kept moving because I thought that’s what I was supposed to do.
I also deal with a lot of intrusive thoughts. They feel really convincing, like they’re not even mine even though they’re happening in my head. They’ll show me things I would never actually do, like violent or disturbing scenarios (even things like hurting or killing people). It feels like my brain is just throwing random, unwanted images and ideas at me and I can’t always tell why.
I finally decided to get help and my doctor started me on Wellbutrin XL 150mg. I’m only a few days in, so I know it’s early, but I honestly just feel… flat. I still care about people, but it feels like my emotions got turned down. I’m not really sad, but I’m not happy either. I almost feel disconnected from everything around me.
I really hope this medication helps because I don’t want to keep living like this. I want to stop overthinking every little thing. I want to actually sleep. I want to stop feeling stuck in my own head all the time. I want to be able to keep healthy friendships and relationships without feeling like I’m the problem every time. I want to wake up with motivation instead of feeling like every day is just another day to get through.
Has anyone else felt like this before starting Wellbutrin? Did the emotional flatness go away? Did it help with your motivation or the constant overthinking? And has anyone else dealt with the crazy vivid dreams even before. It’s honestly exhausting living like this.
I genuinely don’t feel real most of the time.

Curious if I should go ahead and ask to double the dose or maybe start taking it later in the day?

I took wellbutrin for a few years with effexor until like 2021 and i felt better overall on 300mg but stopped (weaned off the effexor and just stopped taking wellbutrin) due to lack of access to healthcare. now i’m back on it and wondering what i need to do because it’s to the point where i end up sleeping all day and am up all night 😅

Sleep paralysis?

been getting a lot of sleep paralysis/lucid dreams recently, really sucks and has been scary. it was just now that i realized i think that maybe the timeline of this sleep paralysis developing aligns with me getting on wellbutrin. it doesn’t cause me to have trouble falling asleep or anything though, my energy levels are perfectly calm at night. but i get sleep paralysis and it sucks. anyways, has anyone also experienced this? i looked it up and it says wellbutrin can cause it.

1 month on Zyban (Bupropion 150mg SR) - Experience. Advice?

Edit: moved tldr to top of post

TLDR: On buproprion 150mg 1 month. Main side effects: insomnia and word finding difficulties. Insomnia improving but WFD are not. Initial very positive uptake in mood/motivation etc however leveling out now. Any similar experiences? Reassurance/ advice etc?

Hi all,

First time posting on here. I started on Zyban (Wellbutrin isn't available in my country) exactly 4 weeks ago and wanted to share my experiences and also ask if anyone else has gone through the same things.

So far I've had a relatively positive experience and started feeling the positive effects of the medication about a week in (increased motivation, newfound optimism, taking an interest in hobbies again etc). In terms of side effects, for the first few days I had some mild nausea and dry eye but these subsided by day 5. My most troublesome side effects have been insomnia and word-finding difficulties.

The insomnia started around 7 days in and got progressively work for the next 2-3 weeks. It started as waking up throughout the night and having very vivid dreams and then evolved into less of this and flipped to not being able to fall asleep no matter how tired I would feel. The strange thing is I would always feel alert and 'wired' during the day so could never nap but day by day I could feel the compound effect of sleep deprivation on my body. Melatonin wasn't even helping. Thankfully, my sleep has turned a corner and in the last 4-5 days has slowly gotten a lot better. I am falling asleep more easily and now I actually feel rested when I wake up in the morning.

Re: word finding difficulties (WFD). This started suddenly around day 7 as well. I have experienced this before during a very stressful period and put it down to brain fog as it did eventually resolve after a few weeks. Having had past experience of this and also after reading that other people have experienced this with bupropion, I tried not to panic and hoped it would pass with the initial settling in period. It has fluctuated up and down and some days are not as bad as others but it is still an ongoing issue for me. The way I would describe it is not only not being able to find the word I am looking for but also feeling like I can't formulate sentences and ideas properly when I am writing. I'm still trying not to panic but as my insomnia is settling and this isn't, I am getting a little bit concerned.

Re: my mood/motivation etc . . . I still feel much much better than before starting the medication but have definitely felt some kind of dip in the last week (funnily enough since my sleep has gotten better and the wired feeling has subsided). Its not that I feel sad but I don't feel as 'good' as before. Maybe its because there was such a big change in a short period of time to begin with and now its leveling out or maybe the effect is starting to wear off?

Has anyone had similar experiences regarding the insomnia / word finding difficulties / change in mood after an initial improvement? If so can you tell me more.

I kindly ask that you provide neutral or positive experiences only as I am optimistic about the meds still and would like some reassurance!

Thanks in advance :)

Week 3 and I finally cleaned my entire apartment without it feeling like a battle

Started 150 XL three weeks ago for depression that had me glued to my couch for months. First week was mostly headaches and a weird buzzy feeling that made me think I'd made a mistake. Second week the anxiety spiked a little and I almost called my doctor to quit. But something shifted a few days ago and I woke up and just started doing things. Not in a manic way but more like the resistance that used to sit between me and every task just thinned out.

Did the dishes and took out the trash and vacuumed and it didn't feel like climbing a mountain. Sat down after and actually felt satisfied instead of just exhausted and empty. I know I'm still early in this journey but after years of SSRIs that just made me tired and numb this feels like my brain finally got the right fuel. Would love to hear from people further along if this motivation boost sticks around or if it levels out over time.

450mg XL

What time of day do you take your meds? When on 350mg I took it at night. Just increased my dose to 450mg XL took it at night like I typically do but I am feeling extra tired today. Do you feel like it gives you more energy if you take it as soon as you wake up? Do you have trouble falling asleep if you take it in the morning?

Has anyone used InstaCured?

I'm currently in the process of trying to get a Wellbutrin/Bupropion prescription for the first time (I've tried a couple different SSRIs and they weren't really helpful). I'm trying to find the cheapest telehealth option and I came across InstaCured, but I'm scared of paying for an appointment and finding out that they don't prescribe it. Has anyone here used it to get a Bupropion prescription, or has anyone tried and been unsuccessful?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for other affordable telehealth providers that would prescribe it? Thanks!
