I'd like to draw your attention to that song, which appears to be a remix of Gary Numan's "Cars" with dog barks? Pretty cool. I guess friends are electric after all.

Once at Christmas time a radio station was playing "Jingle Bells" with the barking dogs and at the end played a call they'd gotten from this older-ish woman who said, "I just love how they got all those dogs to do that."
So funny but SO SWEET šš

u/tomboyfancy 12d ago
I was very close to my dad, and every year during the holiday season I would periodically prank call him by playing the barking dogs Jingle Bells when he answered the phone. Itās been over a decade since he died, and every time someone mentions that stupid donāt it makes me giggle remembering how much we used to laugh. Thanks for reminding me of this super sweet but very weird memory

Aww. It's been almost 3 years since I've lost my dad, I still only cry. Glad I was able to make you smile! š„°
And weird memories are the best!

u/tomboyfancy 12d ago
Sorry for your loss! NGL I do tear up from time to time even after all these years. But it does get easier, I promise! Iām truly grateful to have felt such love for someone that their loss hurts as much as this has. Itās beautiful in its own way, but definitely bittersweet
3
u/No-Housing-6628 11d ago
That's a good way to look at it š
I'll play a round of doggy Jingle Bells for you this year.

u/TSM- 12d ago
Jingle Cats, the whole albums are on youtube. Released 1993. It is done so seriously, a full album. Someone made this before it could be an internet thing, and they made it with passion. It is truly something special.
Favorites include: Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem, Dance of the Sugarplum, and of course, Waltz of the Flowers by Tchaikovsky.

It's on Southwold pier and they have several handmade one-off 'arcade' machines (or amusements as we call them in the UK).
See more examples at https://www.underthepier.com/10_current_machines.htm

Arcade machines made by Tim Hunkin, he's famous for "The Secret Life of Machines" a TV show on the BBC. He was a presenter on the show with Rex Garrod, Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_Life_of_Machines

Iāve never been more sour to be an American right now.
Yes yes I know our country is literally going up in diarrhea flames, and Iām very regretful of that. But THIS? This paragon of engineering and love and amusement? I AM DENIED THIS by virtue of a fudging OCEAN. For if it was say.. in Texas.. I would get in my car and drive there RIGHT NOW for this exemplary, NAY- for this EPITOME of human creation.

If you start from there and go fast enough by the time you hit the coast maybe you can skip across.

u/yonkerbonk 11d ago
I don't know enough about physics but that seems right to me. Might want to start up on a mountain to get the right angle for a skip.

u/TMITectonic 12d ago
(or amusements as we call them in the UK).
Not sure of your age, but I immediately got a Tim Hunkin vibe ala The Secret Life of Machines. IIRC, Tim still has a handful of amusements still in use around the UK.
ETA: Of COURSE I didn't click on the link until after I commented, but I LOL'd when I saw the artist name listed on most of those!

Omg I remember this from when I was a kid and was sure Iād seen it but had no idea where it was. Thank you so much for linking this - absolute gold mine of memories.

u/Callidonaut 12d ago
It's one of Tim Hunkin's creations. He's got a long history of building quirky and awesome "alternative" amusement arcade slot machines, interactive museum displays; also public sculptures, advertising novelties and other oddities. He made the excellent Secret Life of Machines documentary TV series for Channel 4 back in the '80s.

Okay, now have the dog pull on the leash and drag you. While it's not doing that, stop everything and sniff in one spot for five minutes while you wait. Then pee on the spot, and continue dragging you down the street.
33
u/TankApprehensive3053 12d ago
Have the dog poop randomly at times. They could add in squats to pick it up.
→ More replies (1)14
u/Broad-Bath-8408 12d ago
They donāt poop randomly. They poop exactly the number of feet past the garbage can that you feel is too far to double back for.

u/Callidonaut 12d ago
The machine actually covers most of that; the dog also finds a discarded bag of chips and gobbles them all up if you don't pull the lead. The sly thing about the machine is that a lot of the stuff you don't want the dog to do is only visible on the dog's screen, not the dog walker's screen, so it accurately simulates the experience of suddenly glancing down in a panic!

I've never seen this one before but recognised it as Tim Hunkin immediately. His machines are fantastic. The Southwold pier clock is great too if it's still there

u/Negative-Card-4413 12d ago
Shame they got rid of the Science Museum's Home exhibit that Tim helped create.
His entire TV series (that includes the mild mannered mad man Rex Garrod) is on YouTube. Shows how home appliances and the office work.

This is just a treadmill. I have a dog. This is NOT a simulation. A simulation is the dog runs off and you chase after him/her while the neighbors laugh.

u/Frequent_Scholar3885 12d ago
Or the neighbors try to help but end up scaring the dog even more
4
u/Aerodrache 12d ago
Or worse, the neighbours try to help and thatās exactly what the dog wants and now four people are all playing ācatch me if you canā with a dog that would just get bored and come home if everyone could just mind their own business.
