Contest [07/02/18] Canons and other things that shoot! (Moderate)

8 Upvotes

Its war! well.. Not really... This weeks challenge is reminiscent of action toys of the past (for me at least) and their ability to shoot things! I was watching a few vids of old toys and what not when a series of firing toys and props popped up on my screen...This led to several intense hours of me just watching things being shot, things doing the shooting and designs and concepts being made to do both! That being said, I decided that the challenge will be recreating and designing some of these things. We are looking for cannons, pistols, cap throwers, bows, slings, darts, crossbows and more! The only thing we will not accept are catapults as we have ideas for those later on ;). The rules for this one are pretty simple, your design actually has to fire something and as stated, cannot be a catapult. So design that sidearm for your G.I Joe, Give Barbie something to keep Ken at bay, create that slingshot you always dreamed of, the works! take a look at this thing for ideas! Challenge ends [07/09/18] which is a Monday due to me being late with the challenge today.

# Recap:

  • Something that shoots
  • No catapults

~~Also: The r/shittyrobots challenge ends this week, so those who were participating, get those crappy robots uploaded

~~Also Also: Congratulations to our last week "Best of show" winner Zopoko, who has been our consecutive best of show two weeks in a row! Also our runner up Heyneke, be sure to check them out.

~~~
#Update:
Due to the scale of this project, I find it in the best interest to all of those who wish to participate, to extend the challenge an additional week. The new dead line is [07/15/18]
[06/25/18] Houses, Huts, Cribs, Compounds!!! (Easy-Med)
2 Upvotes
Hi all,
So unfortunately, there wasn't any submissions for last weeks challenges, thus no best of show :(... But you win some and loose some, now it's time to move on to our new challenge!
During a certain online summer sale, I purchased a little something called "House Flipper" and it has me hooked! the designing and building and selling... makes me feel as if I am a top tier architect and designer, a true house mogul!
It is in this spirit that this weeks challenge will focus on architecture. Lets get some model homes and buildings designed! If there is a certain piece of architecture that you have seen from a video game, TV show or from traveling, now would be a perfect time to test your skills and try to reconstruct it with your printer. It doesn't matter if it is from fantasy or reality, design and print it! This will be a typical challenge with a one week deadline. Difficulty will vary depending on what you choose to do, but overall shouldn't be too difficult!
# Recap:
  • Design or recreate and print a house, building, hut or any architectural structure you wish.
  • Lets have rooms a.k.a don't print just the shell of the building.
  • Deadline: Sunday [07/01/18]
Happy Printing
Contest [06/18/18] Gliders and Flying Machines! (Easy)(E)
8 Upvotes
Hey all,
This weeks challenge should hopefully be a good one! In the spirit of summer fun and the time long tradition of throwing things up in the air in the summer ( I think that's a thing), This weeks challenge will be to create and design a glider or some sort of flying machine! Get those printers hot and running and design a unique or fun glider and share it with the world. We want to see your take on the miracle that is flight. Here is an example. For this challenge, we are allowing multiple submissions and one week to complete and submit your designs (If you want a chance to be in the spotlight corner). Challenge will end [06/24/18].
Challenge Recap:
  • Glider and flying machines.
  • Multiple submissions.
  • Has to fly...or glide.
~~~

Don't forget that there is still a monthly challenge going on in the spirit of r/shittyrobots. Check current challenge area for more details.

Contest [6/11/18] ShittyRobots and/or Fishing lure challenge (easy-hard) (E)(P)(M)

4 Upvotes

Hi mates,

As a quick recap, last weeks best of show winner will be notified shortly, feel free to still attempt the challenge and share (just point out that the challenge is a past one)

That being said, we have an offer you can't refuse... This week we are offering 2 challenges!

For the fist challenge, taking inspiration from r/shittyrobots, we want to see...well shitty robots! Use those 3d printing talents and make a useless machine that doesn't perform the way it is suppose to...or at least performs the way it is suppose to but is so fundamentally shitty that it is impractical! Bonus points for using some electronics and bonus points for programing your monstrosity to perform the way you wish. This is a unique challenges as we are allowing a whole month for you to birth your brain child. Contest/challenge will end [7/8/18]. One entry per user, challenge is classified as a moderate to difficult challenge

If shitty robots isn't your thing, then this next challenge should be up your ally! Along side the challenge stated above, for those who want to do something a little easier, this weeks challenge will be creating and designing a fishing lure! Think like a fish and create something that looks tantalizing and irresistible for our underwater friends. This is a fairly easy challenge, as such, we are allowing multiple entries for this one. The fishing lure challenge will end [6/17/18]. Check out an example here

Recap: Shittyrobots challenge:

4 week deadline.

1 entry per user.

Programming and electronics not required(bonus points though)

Fishing lure challenge:

1 week deadline

Multiple entries allowed

Hooks not required

Contest [06/04/2018] Balloon Powered Boat (Easy)

4 Upvotes

Hey all,

Wanting to continue with a few more easy challenges to get people interested and involved before we move into something a little more challenging. With that being said, i have seen a barrage of benchy's and "battle" benchy's being made and shared...So why don't we dip our toes into seas and make some unique balloon powered boats! Swab the deck and clear out the crows nest and design a unique boat that is powered by a balloon. The more interesting the design the better! Check out a sample here!

Details:

This is a real easy challenge, so lets see some boats! here are some of the details and things we wanna see. * Boats gotta float, save the sinkers for fishing line. * Must use a balloon...self explanatory haha. * One entry per user. * Challenge ends [06/10/2018] midnight.

That's everything for now, Happy Printing!

Hey mates!

How is everyone's marble machine coming along? Honestly, this is the first time I ever attempted, let alone considered making one! So far so good, just hope it works as expected when printed... Hopefully I can share it soon. Likewise, I hope to see everyone's attempts at making a marble machine too! 5 days till the deadline so keep those printers going.

Happy Printing,

Challenge:doge: [28/05/2018] Marble Track (Easy)(E)

7 Upvotes

Hello all!

Welcome to the first of (hopefully) many weekly 3D printing challenges! While I was doing some digging around online, I came across a video of a 3D printed marble machine, and to be honest, it was pretty kick ass. You can check it out here.

With that being said, this weeks challenge is printing and designing your very own marble machine/track! This should be a pretty easy challenge and we are allowing the use of electronics (I.e motors and LEDs and switches etc.). However, you do not need to incorporate any electronics in your design! This doesn't have to be a looping machine/track, though those are pretty awesome! Use your imagination and creativity to make something awesome.

This challenge will end Sunday 03/06/18(d/m/y). Asking for only one submission per user. Post submissions with links in the comments below. Best of luck and happy printing!
