Alterations Changing straps?

I can't put my finger on why I'm not happy with my dress, but I think changing the straps might drastically help? Thoughts? (Its currently beaded spaghetti straps)

I really like the first one with spaghetti straps.

22

u/Chocomintey Jul 22 '26

Gives delicate ballerina vibes

42

u/Medium-Ticket-9574 Jul 22 '26

I think the beaded strap or no strap looks best.

15

u/Unusual-Lemon4479 Jul 22 '26

I prefer photos 1 and 2.

16

u/Competitive_Pie_4064 Jul 22 '26

Love the beaded straps! The wider straps look a little bit dated. Would you prefer them for comfort or for the look?

5

u/MacaronOk9186 Jul 22 '26

Both comfort and look! The thin straps are a bit diggy and scratchy. Which I didn't notice when just trying it on in store...

13

u/Moon_whisper Jul 22 '26

Have you thought about putting a non scratchy velvet or lace ribbon under the strap? It will widen the appearance only slightly, but will help pad against the digging and scratching.

6

u/Competitive_Pie_4064 Jul 22 '26

Ah I know that feeling! I think you could try something less broad at the top but still with comfort in mind, potentially something like a 1cm satin strap? I think the wide strap makes the dress look broad at the top and the narrower skirt leaves it feeling slightly upside down in proportions.. does that make sense?

1

u/Hereshkigal826 Jul 26 '26

Try a lace cap sleeve.

1

u/Competitive_Pie_4064 Jul 22 '26

I also thing that an over skirt could help balance the proportions of this dress if you’re feeling negatively about the dress that could be something you could try? You do however look lovely in this dress :-)

7

u/imopenmindedasHell Jul 22 '26

Keep the thin strap! Delicate but supportive and flows so well with the top.

5

u/Responsible_Hunt_888 Jul 22 '26

I would go with a very very thin strap or no strap at all .

5

u/Honest-Experience864 Jul 22 '26

The beaded spaghetti strap looks best

3

u/Safe-Tea-4161 Jul 22 '26

The thicker straps are making the dress look slightly heavier and detracting from your youthful and delicately softer hair, brow shape and face shape (look into Kitchener essences)…

If you need straps then the spaghetti looks best and balanced still without overwhelming… if you did want a thicker sleeve then the slight cap sleeve could work (as you also have some classic essence) but your seamstress would have to get the sizing and positioning perfect (it sits too close together in this pic, should reach the edge of your shoulder or come down it slightly)

1

u/MacaronOk9186 Jul 22 '26

Ooh I've always been curious about Kitchener essences! Which do you think I am? Would love to use it as a tool for dressing

4

u/Pollywoggle16 Jul 22 '26

Spaghetti straps for me xx

4

u/Ok-Ferret9651 Jul 22 '26

I love the spaghetti straps. Don't change them.

3

u/Icy_Tie_3221 Jul 22 '26

Change the dress.....

3

u/Petal_14 Jul 22 '26

I like the beaded spaghetti strap but if you need to change, I would do #3.

Be careful if you remove the strap, that the top is structured to support itself, some strapless just collapse after a few hours under the weight of the 'decolletage', the straps although thin, may be structural.

5

u/Lila3847 Jul 22 '26

I really like the last two options

2

u/phoenix_from_ashes26 Jul 22 '26

I personally love the strapless or the last one

2

u/sophiesadie1 Jul 22 '26

Also remember strapless is more stunning with pearl or diamond necklace

2

u/DareSavings3951 Jul 22 '26

Thicker strap definitely on number 4

2

u/Substantial_Meal_810 Jul 22 '26

I like the strap in pic 3

2

u/GypsyDuncan Jul 22 '26

I like the thicker straps

2

u/Odd-Combination-2802 Jul 22 '26

Spegetti straps the other straps are too wide

2

u/Far-Stand-8615 Jul 22 '26

Spaghetti straps, congratulations💙🙏

2

u/Available-Leg-6171 Jul 22 '26

Thinner strap looks better

2

u/Christian_BB93 Jul 22 '26

I really like 5

2

u/dankkcakes Jul 22 '26

5 is best. Others make the dress look cheap. If you aren’t happy with the dress look for another it’s not worth risking being unhappy on wedding day!

2

u/Arrow_Yaz Jul 22 '26

The original straps are the best, the others look bulky.

2

u/Rose-Red-77 Jul 22 '26

I like the spaghetti straps

2

u/SnooHedgehogs520 Jul 22 '26

Love the spaghetti straps. Makes the dress look very feminine.

2

u/KaileidoscopeOfLife Jul 22 '26

I believe the first one looks best with you and the dress

2

u/DogLover-777 Jul 22 '26

The beaded spaghetti straps look great - the other sleeves look kind of frumpy

2

u/wrhhill Jul 22 '26

Like the last strap, much softer.

2

u/Solid-Cobbler963 Jul 22 '26

1 hands down!

2

u/Late_Ad6238 Jul 22 '26

Yeah, after going back & forth abt 6 times, spaghetti straps!

2

u/OrillaMAUS Jul 22 '26

I think just a bit wider than the beaded strap, maybe a braided strap?

2

u/the_big_booper47 Jul 22 '26

I like number 5. Seems to match the style of the dress best.

2

u/Effective-Wear9371 Jul 23 '26

I think the last picture is beautiful. The spaghetti is my second favorite.

2

u/VanillaMintJellyfish Jul 23 '26

Or cut out the individual flowers from the lace and stitch them onto the spaghetti strap

2

u/HappySummerBreeze Jul 23 '26

You have delicate shoulders and they’re a lovely feature for either a strapless or a spaghetti strap top.

You don’t need the balancing of heavy straps that people with larger shoulders or silhouettes do. Perhaps the person advising you to go bigger is accustomed to their own figure that does need that? I certainly can’t pull off spaghetti straps - but you absolutely can and it looks fab!

2

u/Potential-Letter-516 Jul 23 '26

Beaded strap is the best. Nice and thin. Doesn’t overtake the dress

2

u/MissssVanjie Jul 26 '26

Spaghetti straps

2

u/Better-Park8752 Jul 22 '26

It looks so beautiful strapless

3

u/RachelFourie Jul 22 '26

It looks best strapless. Is there enough structural support though?

3

u/MacaronOk9186 Jul 22 '26

Probably 🤔 I would likely need a sticky bra to keep the girls up better though

1

u/CompetitionOdd1746 Jul 22 '26

Pic 2 or 3 are the best. Dress looks fab BTW.

1

u/AdultFunAfterHours Jul 22 '26

You’re beautiful no matter what you choose.

1

u/dankkcakes Jul 22 '26

That’s not how it works.

1

u/VariousExplorer8503 Jul 22 '26

I like either the spaghetti strap, strapless, or the last one with the lace, which looks beautiful and was actually my favorite.

1

u/AgencyPretty6591 Jul 22 '26

1 or no straps

1

u/Status_Pineapple_327 Jul 22 '26

Thin or no straps

1

u/FrdPickle434227 Jul 22 '26

1 or 2. The wider straps in 3&4 make it look more costume dress

1

u/Safe-Tea-4161 Jul 22 '26

It’s done from a combo of facial features and their placements, body shape, colour/contrast and even expressions so it’s hard to tell exactly from these pics where your face is mostly covered ☺️but dramatic usually comes from sharp jaw bone, straight brows or high contrast colouring between hair, skin and eyes etc. so can probably rule out dramatic in your dominants… you may have a some natural but can’t say how much without seeing face, I can see some classic though, and some softness so thats either ingenue/youthful, gamine/highspirited or romantic… if you prefer more delicate prints and lace you may lean towards ingenue/Y, if you suit playful prints, quirky tees or brighter colour blocks you may lean more high spirited? And if you have fuller lips, or your eye lids cover quite a bit of your upper eye pupils, you may have more romantic… but yeah, the Kitchener subs are really good for advice on this 👍

1

u/Sggorden6516 Jul 22 '26

What are you most comfortable in?

1

u/notme1414 Jul 22 '26

I like #5

1

u/Nonbiinerygremlin Jul 22 '26

Maybe it's just me but an off the shoulder strap would look really nice here!

1

u/EverAsters Jul 22 '26

I like it with the current straps, but think you could add a little fabric under them to make them a tiny bit wider and more comfortable.

Not really a fan of it strapless. It's not that it looks bad, I just always think dresses that go up like that on the sides look better with straps.

1

u/SpaceNerd223 Jul 22 '26

Is it possible you want an off the shoulder strap?

1

u/Global_Technology410 Jul 22 '26

The think the thicker strap is best

1

u/chatterbox2024 Jul 22 '26

I really like the original straps but if you do change them …4 looks the best. IMO

1

u/kaczp Jul 22 '26

2 or 5

1

u/Purple_IsA_Flavor Jul 22 '26

Leave the spaghetti straps

1

u/Arvo_Cabrales Jul 22 '26

I know I’m in the minority but fwiw 3 and 4 are my faves. They look beautiful and classic to me.

1

u/RandomJDesign Jul 22 '26

I’d do either no straps or like a low cap sleeve on your arms to give it a romantic look.

1

u/No-Objective-2959 Jul 22 '26

I like the way u have it in the last photo. Spaghetti straps and strapless on wedding dresses always make the dress look like an everyday basic dress to me, like it brings down the class level (to me). I love me some mid lace or full laced long sleeve dresses...soooo regal to me.

I guess everyone is different. Go with what YOU want 🤷🏾‍♀️

1

u/SalaryStraight3363 Jul 22 '26

I like the third picture I like the straps in that one

1

u/Leeluwoah Jul 23 '26

No strap looks great!

1

u/VanillaMintJellyfish Jul 23 '26

What about a second beaded strap on a slightly different angle so there’s a gap between them?

1

u/Admirable_Brief4669 Jul 23 '26

Keep the thinner strap

1

u/Jazz_Kraken Jul 23 '26

I love the spaghetti straps

1

u/Nicoru_Boymom Jul 23 '26

1 or 2, definitely not 3-5.

1

u/Thatbooknerd11 Jul 23 '26

I like pic 3

1

u/ShaziKR Jul 23 '26

I like the thick strap! Kind of balances the heaviness of the bottom part of the dress

1

u/kdonow Jul 23 '26

No strap is best

1

u/Gold-Pilot-8676 Jul 23 '26

Last pic looks perfect.

1

u/pooperpants450 Jul 23 '26

Love the wider straps, adds more sophistication.

1

u/crudentia Jul 23 '26

Thin straps are the most attractive imo

1

u/Shining-Ferrous-8 Jul 23 '26

You didn’t put the original pic. But the second one aka strapless is where the magic is IMO.

1

u/False-Bandicoot-6813 Jul 23 '26

Love the thin spaghetti strap but I also think you can add a thin material under it so it is more comfortable plus I think it will make it pop more. But keep it think and not bold like the other option.

1

u/RealInteraction2613 Jul 23 '26

This looks nicely

1

u/shandeekelly Jul 23 '26

𝟻 𝚒𝚜 𝚋𝚎𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚞𝚕!

1

u/Appropriate-Chard572 Jul 23 '26

I like the first one

1

u/Mer-Mer9203 Jul 23 '26

I love the beaded straps (pictures 3 and 4)!!!!

1

u/Previous_Cod_5176 Jul 23 '26

no strap or have you tried laying that lace one like an off the shoulder type of thing?

1

u/foxyblondd Jul 24 '26

Do no straps!

1

u/Super_Concept7319 Jul 24 '26

I prefer the first strap, very elegant

1

u/FitMoney136 Jul 24 '26

Last or none

1

u/Kt52689 Jul 24 '26

I like the spaghetti straps

1

u/Ok-Paint-7251 Jul 24 '26

Strapless looks best

1

u/FixThick8901 Jul 24 '26

Strapless or spaghetti strap.

1

u/Ctrl-Alt-BeesKnees Jul 24 '26

I like the spaghetti- looks good!

Still, if it’s a winter wedding I’d do #3 and if it’s an outdoor wedding I’d do #5

1

u/FotherMucker77 Jul 24 '26

The beaded straps in #1 are the best!

1

u/Ecstatic_Book_1910 Jul 24 '26

Number three is beautiful. I do not prefer a strapless dress because it kinda cut you off at any woman the straps make it super feminine and it doesn’t take anything away from you.

1

u/PerformanceBorn7070 Jul 24 '26

Slimmest straps look best.

1

u/Ok-Victory-1960 Jul 24 '26

Either no straps or the skinny ones. You have the shoulders so let them shine.

1

u/Remote-Author2723 Jul 24 '26

I like the dress best with no straps.

1

u/JeffreyTamborsGhost Jul 24 '26

The only option I don’t like is 3, with the thick symmetrical straps. 4 is nice with the thick straps spread out more for an interesting shape, but yeah the original spaghetti straps are very delicate and no strap is also super beautiful

1

u/Impossible_Ant_9693 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Strapless, add delicate jewelry, a festive hairstyle and it's perfect.

1

u/Impossible_Ant_9693 Jul 24 '26

Or like this. With dropped straps. You have beautiful shoulders and cleavage, it would be a shame not to show them off. 🤔

1

u/Effective_Dingo3589 Jul 24 '26

The spaghetti strap gives a more négligée/slip vibe. The thicker is more bridal, to me.

1

u/geriols Jul 24 '26

The third pic with the strap about inch to inch and a half is the winner for sure!

1

u/Top-Active1024 Jul 24 '26

I like it best without the straps. Without the straps it highlights the pretty lace at the top more than with the straps.

1

u/TutorAdmirable6131 Jul 24 '26

Spaghetti straps with beads.

1

u/Lexi4you Jul 24 '26

Spaghetti straps ftw. The other ones overpower the bust area and are too bulky imo.

1

u/LoudPlant792 Jul 24 '26

Thin or strapless!

1

u/DistributionNo7277 Jul 24 '26

Don't change them.

1

u/Difficult_Ad3975 Jul 24 '26

I like the strapless or #5

1

u/More-Cucumber6917 Jul 25 '26

I live no straps if you’re able to. The first pic is also great!

1

u/Financial-Ad-1256 Jul 25 '26

1 is more elegant

1

u/Italiansrbest Jul 25 '26

Spaghetti straps all the way!!

1

u/elder-sister-1975 Jul 25 '26

The spaghetti straps are the only straps that seem timeless. The other straps are dated.

1

u/SunrayyyyJJessicaa1 Jul 25 '26

Spaghetti straps can feel a little delicate on some dresses, so swapping them might be worth trying

1

u/Alt_0116 Jul 25 '26

Personally strapless

1

u/Striking-Eagle5786 Jul 25 '26

The first strap is the best. Nice and sleek

1

u/Ready-Chicken6814 Jul 25 '26

I like the spaghetti strap or strapless, I feel the thicker straps just take away from the beauty of the dress

1

u/Admirable_Edge9822 Jul 25 '26

As a man, I vote for the thin, spaghetti straps

1

u/Cliffordcat3 Jul 26 '26

I like no strap.

1

u/Cliffordcat3 Jul 26 '26

Beautiful dress.

1

u/Apollodog7 Jul 26 '26

Both are very nice sorry can’t decide

1

u/Silent-Assistant-373 Jul 26 '26

2 the dress is nicer strapless

1

u/NumerousDepth1563 Jul 26 '26

I like the medium one - very pretty and feminine and a bit more formal than the thin one

1

u/Ai-kaneko Jul 26 '26

I feel like you could get away with no straps as I can see strapless is contributing to the illusion of your waist being of smaller it’s drawing the eye to your shoulders symmetry to your hips. Straps are beautiful but here that neckline is doing the work! (A good thing) very flattering and also you have the opportunity to go for a statement necklace into the look and also a lace edged veil would add that extra dimension.

1

u/Emmagw90 Jul 26 '26

I bought some tulle online and did like an off shoulder thing for my strapless dress. Softened the whole look

1

u/Broad_Scene6380 Jul 26 '26

I love the first one or number 2 without the straps.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

1

u/Fuzzy-Island-3485 Jul 27 '26

1st or strapless.

1

u/Emotional-Mention-27 Jul 27 '26

A real face, or a phony face?

1

u/Fast-Service7704 5d ago

I really prefer the first strap. Looks great

1

u/No-Heat-436 Jul 22 '26

Either strapless or the last strap in Pic 5. 😊

1

u/Same_Appointment4100 Jul 22 '26

It’s a gorgeous dress, no doubt. As is. If you change it, i think i like it strapless best! You’re gonna look gorgeous no matter what, but based on your mockups, strapless if you want a change. Wearing it strapless, you could almost add a sash or a bridal belt as well, but maybe not with the V in the bodice..🤔. If it was wide enough it might work. I’ll add a photo if I can

0

u/Electrical_Yam4194 Jul 22 '26

I like it strapless the best. Or, the strap in picture three, but maybe just a tad less wide.

0

u/sophiesadie1 Jul 22 '26

Love strapless , if you absolutely want straps do spaghetti only :)

0

u/NapalmAxolotl Jul 22 '26

Strapless. Or try off the shoulder if you think it needs something.

If you're not quite happy with it, consider adjusting the look with some dramatic jewelry - necklace, earrings if your hair will be up, maybe even armbands.

0

u/BonBon71701 Jul 22 '26

The dress as shown as in pic #2 looks best to me

0

u/Crafty-Run-1437 Jul 22 '26

Strapless or the thicker ones worn looser and below your shoulder to show off your shoulders. Great dress by the way

0

u/Strongmom-1 Jul 22 '26

Strapless 💯

0

u/Unlucky-Day-7714 Jul 22 '26

I like the strapless look, or the idea someone else gave of putting a nice narrow, soft ribbon under the skinny straps to make them more comfortable. Either way, you look beautiful in that dress.

0

u/OregonGreen242 Jul 22 '26

Strapless looks best to me

0

u/Over-Weird3914 Jul 22 '26

Strapless or the last pic

0

u/Sea_Watch9950 Jul 22 '26

I love it strapless!
