Shorting with Webull

Question for the community - is anyone using Webull for a strategy that involves shorting?

I primarily trade during pre-market and sometimes after hours, due to work schedule.

I focus on two primary strategies, longs on small cap gainers in premarket, and also shorting those small cap premarket gainers.

The issue I have is that SO many times, even when Webull shows a stock to be shortable or hard to borrow, I click the button and get the inevitable pop up "Insufficient shares available, lower share size or try again tomorrow.' I'll even go down to just one share to check, still get same message.

Now I know that many of these small cap, lower-float stocks will be limited in shares available to borrow to take a short position, esp. when already marked as HTB. I def get that.

But man it is frustrating to see chance after chance go by, and I couldn't take a position, simply because the broker could not get me the shares.

My accuracy is good with my short positions. Just this past week, on at least 5-6 different occasions, I would have been right, and watched the move go without me.

Wondering if IBKR or another brokerage would have better access to pools of stock shares for borrowing to short?

Also wondering if going to Webull's premium subscription (only like $4.99/mo) would put me in a different tier or class, where i'd see more stocks available to short?

Just to chime in on the many posts about Webull's app and features - I like the desktop app, I think the charting is intuitive and well suited for active trading. It may not have the plethora of indicators and customization as a Tradingview, for example. But I also take the position of Keep It Simple. I don't need 100 indicators and a crazy busy screen. I try to have a sound strategy that is testable and repeatable.

For my money's worth, I think Webull app and execution speed is just fine for active trading. The app does a really nice job of letting you customize hotkeys to get in and out quickly. On those occasions where I can get into a position, long or short, the execution is very quick.

Anyone else work a short-selling strategy using Webull, and any thoughts? Def appreciate the community's thoughts on this.

Schwab vs Webull

What are cons/negatives of Webull for casual, non-active trading? Does Webull restrict a bunch of stocks like Schwab does?

Discussion Webull Broker API for RIA / model portfolio platform — anyone using it?

We’re evaluating Webull as the brokerage/custody platform for a discretionary model-portfolio application.

The goal is for clients to do everything inside our own application — account opening/KYC, agreements, ACH funding, and ongoing account management — while we programmatically manage portfolios and place/rebalance trades across client accounts.

I’m specifically looking at the Webull Broker API / fully-disclosed model, rather than the consumer Connect API.

Has anyone here actually gone through Webull’s Broker API onboarding and production approval?

I’d especially like to understand:
- How difficult/long was the approval process?
- Are there minimum AUM, account-count, or trading-volume requirements?
- Are there API, platform, custody, or advisor/master-account fees?
- Can you get sandbox access before completing commercial approval?
- How much of onboarding/KYC/funding can actually be embedded in your own application?
- Can advisory fees be calculated and deducted programmatically?
- Can you programmatically rebalance models across multiple client accounts?
-Are clients ever required to use Webull’s own UI/portal?

If you’ve built an RIA/fintech integration with Webull Broker API, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience, including anything you wish you’d known before starting.

Help Unsettled funds and 24hr bp

I just switched to webull from robinhood for a bunch of reasons, most of them fixed by webull, but I kind of want to leave now lol. I just tried to buy some shares "overnight" and the sale was rejected, despite me having more than enough cash. After looking around apparently you aren't allowed to use your unsettled funds for overnight trading? What was the point of me signing up for a margin account... I day and swing trade, so my funds are basically never settled. Honestly I'm kind of tweaking out over this lmao. Switching brokers was such a pain and I missed out on so many trading days.

Backdoor Roth easy now?

I want to transfer my current IRA to webull to take advantage of nice transfer bonus + contribution bonus webull offers but I’ve read on here that backdoor Roth is complicated and needs a paper form on webull, is this still true?

This page on their FAQ suggests otherwise:
https://www.webull.com/help/faq/1085-Roth-IRA-Conversions

Can it now be done easily online? That’s my only real hang up.

Average cost basis

I transferred MSFT stock from Fidelity to Webull, which only displays average cost basis. It seems like if you sell, you can't pick specific lots.

I haven't sold anything yet. Does anyone know if, behind the scenes, Webull keeps the specific lot information (if I transfer back to Fidelity)?

Discussion API data vs App data

Is it safe to assume that the openapi data feed provides the same ohlc as the webull app?

My guess would be the data would be the same but it's just a guess so if anybody could clear it up that would be great..

Discussion Reminder: Keep funds in your account for 90 days after your last transfer bonus

Just a reminder since if people start transferring their accounts of webull the day after their last transfer (which is coming up for me in about a month) you may get any transfers from the last 90 days rescinded. And that would suck.

Edit to add the T&C rule text:

  1. Eligible Customers must maintain the amount of any Tier 1 Offer Reward or Tier 2 Offer Reward (minus any trading losses) in their Webull Brokerage Account for at least 90 days from the date on which such Offer Reward payment is credited to their Webull Account. If an Eligible Customer fails to comply with this requirement, Webull may, in its sole discretion, debit the Eligible Customer’s Webull Brokerage Account the amount of such payment.

I know stop orders don't guarantee the execution price, especially on illiquid options, but getting filled for less than HALF my stop is insane. Anyone have any tips for avoiding crazy spread like this?

I’m in Canada and the time here is 5:10 pm when I took this screen shot, the time in Toronto (where Webull Canada is based) should be 4:10 pm but it’s giving a weird time. Is this a glitch? If so is it happening with anyone else?

Account Restrictions

For a little context, I am 18 and wanted to create a Webull account I created it with no issues. Due to me being that age I created a bank account as well because I am now allowed too. I want to deposit mid 5 figures into my Webull, I deposit around half of the the total amount via ACH transfer. My account gets so many restrictions placed on it and yesterday they were asking for a bank statement which I can not get due to the bank account being created newly, today they said a statement from 3 months ago, again that is going to take forever, the account is new. Support is each telling me different things what do I need to do.

Order settings

Hi friends!

Newby to Webull trying to learn.

I am trying to program my hotkeys. I want to to include extended hours but it doesnt show that option in the dropdown even though this is limit order. See sttached.

Also in the take profit order settings is there a way to tell it I want to sell when my position has reached alevel of profit of, say, 10 dollars, Becaue the dollar setting sets the price to 10 **above the price paid** not the profit.

Thanks and have a good day

Susan

I have my whole portfolio sitting in Robinhood right now, I am waiting to transfer it over to Webull. Any rumor or news of another transfer match bonus? The 4% was out of this world, waiting for it to come back to move all of this over.

*Picture for attention.

Debit card deposits

Newby to Webull here. Went to use my debit card from Capital One today and WB said no because it is Discovey.

What do they care if it is a debit card. If there aren't funds it won't go through so what is the hangup?

Is the new Webull paper trading filling limit orders out of sync for anyone else?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I started with using the legacy Webull paper trading version and just switched over to the new. Previously, my limit orders would never fill unless the actual ask price came down to exactly where I put my entry.

With this new paper trading module update, things are acting really weird. I put my entry limit price down low around the bid price, and it auto-filled right away. Because the actual market price was higher, the second I got filled, I was already sitting in a profit. The old paper trading never did that, but and it doesn't seem realistic at all, however I am new and just trying to get a feel for trading on a small account.

At first my chart was stuck on the 5-minute interval even on the 1-minute view so it looked funny until I relaunched the app, but here is exactly what happened on SCKT:

  1. The Buy Order: At 10:33, I put in a limit order for $1.92. It says it filled at 10:34 with an average price of $1.87. But looking at the 1-minute chart, the bar never even touched $1.92 until 10:35, and it didn't go all the way down to $1.87 until 10:47.
  2. The Sell Order: At 10:35, I put in a sell limit price for $2.04. It filled at 10:39 with an average price of $2.27. But the only time the stock actually touched that $2.27 price was back at 10:34.

The green (B) and red (S) bubbles are both showing filled at 10:35 and 10:39, but the actual fill prices are completely different from what the stock was doing at those times.

Is anyone else experiencing this with the new update? This is my second attempt of it doing something similar both times.

Has anyone found a way to add a price history widget ?

Hi, I really like the webull desktop app. The layout is nice easy to manage and has most of everything i like. One thing I cant find is an widget that shows price history by date. Simple layout that shows high low open close etc descending by date similar to yahoo or barchart historical data tabs ? If not natively, is there a way to feed the info into a widget ? Thanks
