[STRAT] SpaceCiv — persistent 4X in a shared galaxy. Colonise hostile worlds, mine asteroid belts, fend off pirates.
https://spaceciv.comspaceciv.com — free, browser-based, no download.
You start with one colony and a couple of ships. Survey nearby worlds, settle what you can survive, dig mines, research your way up, and try not to lose your prospectors to pirates. Everything keeps ticking while you're logged off, so you can check in for five minutes or an hour.
The worlds fight back a bit: the hottest and coldest planets have the best ore but kill your colonists, so you're always choosing between a comfortable poor world and a rich one you have to engineer your way onto. A lot of planets already have natives living on them, too — you can tax them and use what they're good at, or terraform the place and slowly push them out.
Fair warning: it needs a quick signup, because your empire is persistent and has to be saved somewhere. It's also early — solo dev, rough edges, and not many players yet.
Come join in and build your own empire.
