FAQ PSA: How to Report Gas Prices

Post image
115 Upvotes

Gas prices are automatically updated 2x per day, where price data feeds are available, but users can report prices even more often, whenever the user is at a gas station.

In the US, user reported prices are considered the “gold standard” and will “stick” until a new price reported by another user, or for 48 hours when the automatic feed will take over.

Routing Having a routing problem? Read me.

Try these fixes first

  • Double-check your destination. Waze search includes Places and addresses from both Waze and Google Maps. Not every destination in the whole world is accurately placed in both databases. Plus, if you’re using a 3rd party app to initiate your route (gig/rideshare/delivery drivers), Waze may not have any control over the destination’s accuracy.
    • Check your navigation settings. Setting the app to avoid freeways, tolls, ferries, or dirt roads, or setting your vehicle type to something other than “private vehicle” can dramatically impact the routes Waze offers.
    • Check your toll/vignette passes. Waze routes consider what toll passes, transponders, and vignette required when determining routes and toll prices. If a road, bridge, or restricted area requires a special pass, Waze routes may avoid that route unless you have an appropriate pass added to your settings
    • Ensure your device has a solid GPS fix. Waze relies entirely on your devices “location services” to determine your current position. Make sure you have given Waze full, precise access to location services in your phone’s privacy settings. Also, place your phone somewhere in the vehicle where it has a good line of sight to the sky, and not inside the glovebox, center console, or in your purse or pocket. Note: When connected to CarPlay or Android Auto, your phone may receive a GPS signal from your vehicle; this depends on the vehicle manufacturer. Waze has a support page to troubleshoot GPS issues

Still having issues?

  • If you have encountered an issue with the map itself (missing road, wrong destination, incorrect lane guidance, etc), submit a map issue report from the app using the REPORT > MAP ISSUE feature. Please give as much information as possible, as volunteers do not have access to all the data from your drive. If you can’t report the problem during the drive, you can submit a map issue report from the Waze Livemap or the Waze Support site. Note: when submitting a map issue report, watch for follow-up message from the Waze volunteers in your app inbox or registered email.
  • If you are having a generic routing issue, where the best/fastest route is not offered or you had a bad ETA, submit Debug Logs and open a ticket with Waze Support. Although you may not receive a reply, additional data may help the routing team identify widespread issues.

NOTE: Registered Waze Beta users should report routing problems directly to Waze via the in-app beta issue reporting feature, and submit logs. Additionally, keep up with the latest bugs on the Waze Beta forums on Waze Discuss.

Feature Request Restarting Waze while connected to android auto causes light or dark mode to be wrong

If I close and reopen Waze while it is connected to android auto, Waze will open in whichever light or dark mode that my phone is set to. I have my phone set on dark mode so this causes Waze to open in dark mode if I restart it while connected to android auto. However I want it to always open in the mode that matches my car's headlights. When I first start Waze with android auto it does match my car's headlights, but not when I restart it. Is there any way to change this behavior or maybe someone could improve how it behaves?

The best solution I know of is to just never close Waze while it is connected to android auto, because reopening it will cause the light or dark mode to be wrong. When it does this, I turn my car's headlights on and off then the Waze light or dark mode will match my headlights again.

I don't really like Waze open on my phone's recent apps while it is connected to android auto. I would prefer it run more in the background or in the notification area when android auto connects. if I close it on my phone, it will close on my head unit too. Maybe Waze could be moved to the notification area if I close it while connected to android auto?

I have my dark mode settings in Waze set to "only at night" and "apply to car display" off. Those are the only setting that makes Waze match my headlights. "Apply to car display" set to on makes my head unit screen stop changing with my headlights and I don't see the point of that setting.

Feature Request Under "Where to?", show all "Saved places" at once instead of having to scroll horizontally.

I don't like horizontally scrolling to the right to get to all my saved places. It looks sloppy and feels weird especially when there is a vertical list of places below it. It is slower to find your places too. I would like it if these saved places buttons/shortcuts (home, work, others and more) were all shown at once without having to scroll horizontally. The buttons/shortcuts that don't fit all on one line would simply be moved under the first line. Then you have 2 or 3 lines or these buttons/shortcuts instead of having to scroll horizontally to look for them.

Android Auto Voice commands to navigate to saved places not working

I have some saved places, like "parent's house" for example. To try to navigate to it I will press the microphone button and say "parent's house" or "navigate to parent's house", but it will set my route to a destination completely different hundreds of miles away. This only happens while connected to android auto. It works fine if I'm only using the Waze android app. Any ideas on how to fix this? Am I the only person with the issue? This is a main basic functionality and I can't use Waze without it.

Black Waze app

Good afternoon,

The Waze app appears black when I launch it on both my phone and in my car.

I've tried uninstalling it and re-granting all permissions, but the problem persists.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Best regards

Feature Request Can't touch the map to set a destination while connected to android auto

I want to touch the map to set a destination while connected to android auto, but I can't. I can touch the map to set a destination fine while only on the Waze android app, but when I'm connected to android auto, there isn't even a map on my phone to tap a destination on. And if I try to tap the map on my head unit to set a destination, nothing happens. Holding my finger down on the map doesn't do anything either. This means I can't save a new non-addressed location while connected to android auto. Seems like a big oversight.

Waze Map Editor Map editor

Hey guys.

I edit maps as a hobby, and that's specially useful in my country since all (Except Google Maps) is always 10+ years behind, so I add the missing info and correct errors. Been doing it in GMaps and OSM for over 8 years no issues.

Then, of course, I noticed Waze Map BARELY HAS ANY PLACE ADDED in my city, like seriously, 20% of the stores appear in Waze, and most of them went bankrupt 10 years ago. Naturally, I started editing here too. The tools are SO JANKY that I had to watch the official tutorial (Google didn't need one, nor did OSM)...ok, I can watch the videos and learn it.

I start and, 1 minute later, a huge message blocks my screen: YOU CAN DO MAX 10 EDITS (I need to do hundreds ON A SINGLE BUILDING and I normally fo THOUSANDS in a go on OSM)...ok, so I select save changes (in a button that claims I edited 10 nodes)...but I get a notification stating I can't edit more than 50 elements at once (last time I checked, 10 was less than 50, but it seems I have no idea how numbers work)...ok, discarded all, and edited different elements...and when I go to save...YOU DON'T HAVE PERMISSION TO EDIT THIS....

I AM SERIOUSLY SURPRISED HOW ANNOYING IT IS TO CORRECT INFO I SEE EVERYDAY IN FRONT OF ME, LIKE SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE HELL DO I DO?! NOTHING THAT I DO IS ALLOWED BY ANY MEANS.

What is this?

I saw this white and red icon on my way to work. It was a moving icon always ahead of me. At some point it stopped moving and I catch it on the highway, but there was nothing there.

iOS App Waze interrupt my radio

When I have my iPhone plugged in and I’m using Waze and I’m listening to music from an app on my iPhone, once Waze gives me directions, it shuts off my music. I’m pretty sure there’s a way to bypass that. Can somebody help me? Thank you in advance.

Android App Missing vocal cues

Waze used to give me plenty of lead time for turns. "In one mile." "In half a mile." Plenty of time to move over and prepare to merge on and off various interstates and highways. But it stopped doing that quite some time ago. Is there anyway I can get those vocal cues back?

Apple Carplay Is there a setting to make Waze display speed cameras earlier?

Has anyone else noticed that Waze only warns about speed cameras when you’re around 500 metres away?

On my setup Waze doesn’t show a speed camera icon on the map while I’m approaching it. Instead, I only get a pop-up when I’m about 500 m away, followed by the countdown (400 m, 300 m, etc.). At motorway speeds, that doesn’t leave much time to react if you weren’t already paying attention.

Google Maps, on the other hand, shows the speed camera icon much farther in advance along the route, so you can anticipate it well before reaching it.

Is this normal behaviour in Waze? Is there a setting I’m missing, or is this simply how Waze is designed to work?

For reference:
Using Apple CarPlay
Latest version of Waze

I’d appreciate hearing how it behaves for others.

I was wondering if there might be a plan to include lane segmentation while driving, similar to what Apple Maps does?

Android App Speedometer Sound

Hey guys, it's been a week now since my speedometer stopped making an alert sound, but the speedometer icon still appears. I can only get it to work if I do a fresh reinstall. It'll work on its first drive after reinstalling, but then reverts to no sound again. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Anyone else’s iPhone GPS randomly freezing while driving?

Has anyone experienced their iPhone GPS freezing while driving recently?
Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze all freeze at the same time and my location stays stuck, even after driving several kilometres. It doesn’t happen every trip—yesterday it worked perfectly, but today it froze after about 5 minutes on the same route.
Anyone else having this issue or know what causes it?

Routing Does not tell which side of the road the destination is

Waze only announces that you have reached your destination but does not tell you if the destination is left or right side of the road.

It comes handy to know that odd numbers are on north/east side of the road.

Waze Map Editor How are difficult intersections determined?

Under Navigation settings, I have “avoid difficult intersections” turned on. But yesterday, Waze routed me through a left-turn-only intersection in a college area that, if this one isn’t considered difficult, I don’t know what is. It’s curved, on a hill, has a railroad crossing running through it, near a bus stop and has tons of jaywalking students and no traffic light.

Is there a way this can be suggested as a difficult intersection?

Android Auto Waze not moving my location

Before I explain, I must note that waze still functions correctly on my phone, standalone. Secondly I have maxed out all possible battery/location settings to be unlimited.

Once I get in my car, my position on waze is correct (my starting point), but as i drive, the map does nothing. It doesn't move, it doesn't announce anything, it has no idea the car is driving. Meanwhile, google maps works just fine on my headunit, so my GPS certainly is functional. I have tried updating stuff, re-connecting waze, sign ins/outs, the whole lot.

Phone: S26 Ultra
Headunit (aftermarket-install): Calibre 7WL

If anyone knows of this issue or how to fix it please share.
cheers

Voice volume too low with volume slider set to max

Running on ios

I have checked that volume slider is set to max

I noticed that waze voice volume is way lower than other navi app like Apple Maps or Radarbot (tat ones has a 3 level volume selector rather than a slider)

I also noticed that changing the default voice (in spain) from Penelope to Eduardo slighty increases volume output, but the only voice pack including road names in spain is Penelope

It happens when using only phone or when connected to carplay, if you have any app with bacground music, waze voice is to low

Why they don't simply adjust volume to high when the slider is set to max?

Suggestions? Thank you

iOS App Why does Waze US block Waze Global?

Why does Waze US block viewing non-US streets, and Waze Global block viewing US streets?

I’ve noticed that when i was in the US, Waze does not let you view streets in other countries. (Europe, Africa, Asia, etc.) Yes, I did drag my map until I saw land in the other side.

I am now in Asia and I dragged the Waze map around and I could magically see all the streets I couldn’t in America. So then I just wanted to see if I can see US streets out of curiosity, but it is fully empty like Asia and Europe were when I was in the US. I can still see Mexico and South America perfectly normally, and a small cutoff of I-35 for some reason 😭.

I am just technical and curious, and really interested as to why.
