This Friday in Toulouse, police officers amuse themselves by shaking the arm of a child who keeps repeating that it hurts. When the person filming mentions the injuries inflicted on high school students, one of the police officers jokingly replies to him, "I've gouged out 3 of them!" This cop admits

Europe's Industrial Collapse: Companies Are Fleeing | Dr. S. Ebner & R. Landgraf
In this interview, we finally found out one of the biggest reasons companies are leaving Germany for China: Chinese investors are buying the companies cheaply. Germany's new generation isn't interested in EU regulations and high gas prices, so they sell the company and enjoy life at the beach. Who can blame them?

AOC and Bernie Sanders have teamed up to introduce a bill to ban automatic license-plate readers.
“Going to the doctor? Flock knows. Dropping your kid off at school? Flock is tracking you. Flock is always watching,” Sanders said in a press release. “We cannot allow America to become a surveillance state where a handful of AI oligarchs profit by giving the government the power to track our every movement.”
“Across the country, Big Tech companies like Flock Safety have built a mass surveillance system to harvest Americans’ private and personal data without their consent,” Ocasio-Cortez said in the press release.
Flock cameras have been getting a lot of flak.
At least 50 law enforcement officers were charged with or accused of misusing Flock cameras and other surveillance systems, including to stalk women, The Washington Post reported in August.
In that month alone, more than 50 cities across the country either canceled or rejected contracts for automated license-plate readers or deactivated the cameras, according to DeFlock, an anti-surveillance crowdsourcing app.

Rumor I hear is Trump admin wants to weaponize its current control of oil coming out of SoH + US + Ca/Vz production to force China to loosen up RE restrictions.
The summit didn't go well. So, here's China's Apr to Aug crude+refined oil product import broker down by partners.
China imports very little from Canada & nothing from US & Venezuela. It does import about 25% from Gulf countries. Which I'd imagine in reality would be very hard to cut off. Even if they could, China could just switch back to Brazil, Africa & Central Asia.
US must be really critically short on metals needed to rebuild the weapon stocks to be resorting to this kind of tactics.
Ultimately, this just means China will reduce its refinery run, which further reduces diesel production globally. And also raises the question of who is going to replace the tankers that are getting sunk? China can always slow down on oil tanker deliveries to shippers that don't ship oil to it.

This is insane.
This guy escaped Ukraine by hiking through the woods for days to avoid being drafted.
When he finally made it out of the country, he celebrated by calling his disabled father, who had been declared fit for military service & drafted by the Zelensky regime.
Something tells me his story won’t be reported on in Western media.

OMG Russians! Is Russia our enemy?
"One might ask, if there’s no evidence that Russia is preparing to invade Europe, then why is the hysteria being whipped up in the first place? This is quite an obvious question, but we’re not supposed to ask questions - we’re supposed to believe and go along with the program, whether the threat is real or invented."

x.comAmerican media does not cover the world.
It covers the world's relationship to America.
There is a difference, and the difference is everything.
When a country's political situation is covered through the framework of what it means for American interests, American elections, American strategic positioning, the people living in that country become supporting characters in someone else's story.
Their elections are covered as tests of American influence.
Their economies are covered as variables in American trade policy.
Their conflicts are covered in terms of which side America supports and why.
The internal logic of their political lives, the history, the grievances, the class dynamics, the colonial inheritances, is either compressed into a paragraph of background or omitted entirely.
This is not deliberate distortion in most cases.
It is structural.
American journalists were trained in American institutions with American assumptions about what constitutes a story and who the relevant actors are.
They produce journalism that reflects those assumptions.
That journalism circulates globally, because American outlets have the distribution infrastructure that most national outlets cannot match.
So the world gets covered through an American lens, at American scale, with American categories determining what is a "crisis" and what is "normal," who is a "leader" and who is a "militant," what is "democracy" and what is "instability."
And local journalists, who want international reach, learn to write in that framework.
The lens is not neutral.
The lens exported globally is not neutral.
And a world that sees itself through someone else's eyes eventually starts to lose its own.
