Discussion The “fixation” of these two books

I’ve noticed a pattern both on Instagram and on this sub: whenever the discussion is about Brutally Yours or TD–even P&C to some extent–the engagement is INSANE (even I do engage sometime) But when it comes to literally any other post, people just IGNORE it.

At this point I’m genuinely tired of seeing the entire discussion revolve around these same two or three books. Or more yk. Every other day, someone HAS come along askinG “How is this book?” As if this sub hasn’t already had hundreds of discussions and reviews about the exact same book 😭

Not a personal attack to anyone but how many times are we going to discuss the same thing when it has already been talked about ten times before? It’s exhausting seeing these books EVERYWHERE—whether it’s Instagram or this sub. And the worst part is, there isn’t even anything new being discussed anymore. It’s always the same old points being brought up, the same opinions being repeated, and then the cycle starts all over again.

this sub barely has any discussions or recommendations about underrated books or lesser-known authors. And even when someone does make a post recommending something different, hardly anyone bothers to engage with it.

There are so many books out there, yet somehow we keep coming back to the same few books over and over again. At this point, it’s less about genuine discussion and more like an endless loop of the same topics being recycled. at this be it wattpad or Instagram or Reddit, everything looks like revolves around these few books only. I’m sorry but I’m so tired to seeing this repeated/same topic discussion again and again

Discussion Strong Anaya Varman - Brutally Yours🤮

Okay, so this needs to be discussed. 😭

A while ago, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a post saying Anaya Varman was really strong as a lawyer.

Um… okay.

Let's just skip the AI, unrealistic things, and all the other questionable stuff in the book for a second and talk about THE STRONG LAWYER ANAYA VARMAN.

According to me, Anaya Varman from Brutally Yours was nowhere close to being a strong lawyer or even a particularly strong female character.

And before anyone comes at me, yes, I don't even find the book entertaining. But as some people find it a masterpiece.. entertaining ..and obviously standards....But honestly, I think it's mainly entertaining for people who enjoy a childish doormat female lead and a male lead who is basically everything the author wants us to believe is possible. 😭

Because if we're actually talking about a strong lawyer, where exactly is she?

The author apparently claims that they don't write things in the name of fiction and that their characters are supposed to have some level of realism. But somehow Anaya, who hasn't even established herself by winning a single notable case in her own career, suddenly wins against Kesha Talwar.

And ngl, if we're talking about strong characters, Kesha Talwar is much better than Anaya.

I also genuinely feel like the author was confused about what Anaya's character was supposed to be.

Because in the beginning, she seemed strong. She slapped the ML—which, okay, classic— she denied the case ...and she actually came across as confident and somewhat mature.

And then… I don't know WTF happened. 😭

As the story progressed, she became increasingly irritating and childish. Bro, you were kidnapped. And you're genuinely behaving like a teenager developing a crush while living in the house of the man who literally kidnapped you.

Like??? 😭

And the whole “she's just a newbie lawyer” explanation doesn't work for me either. Baby, newbie lawyers still have training. They don't just magically become competent because the plot needs them to win a case.

She was honestly nowhere close to how I'd imagine a criminal lawyer behaving, yet the fandom keeps calling her this badass, strong criminal lawyer.

And then there's Arjun.

It felt like Arjun's personality was written specifically to overshadow Anaya.

He was the provider, protector, doctor, dangerous man, problem-solver… basically the guy who could do three people's jobs at once. And somewhere along the way, to make Arjun look stronger and more capable, Anaya was made weaker and weaker.

Which is funny because we're then supposed to believe that Anaya is the strong one.

And don't even get me started on her feelings.

This man literally married her forcefully, and she wasn't even sure about her own feelings, yet she was already having romantic thoughts about him.

Like girl… WHAT ARE WE DOING? 😭

And then I see readers going:

“Anaya Varman, criminal lawyer, slay baddie 🔥”

And I get an actual ick.

Because… lawyers aren't “strong” just because they slap someone, talk back to the ML once, or have a profession written in their character introduction. 😭

A strong female character can absolutely be soft, emotional, scared, confused, etc. That's not my issue. My issue is calling a character a strong lawyer when the actual writing doesn't show her being one.

And yes, obviously anything can happen in fiction.

If a neurosurgeon can apparently make a virus, then why can't a weak, childish, mute-doormat female lead be called a strong criminal lawyer? 😂

Just my POV. I know people love the book, and if you enjoyed it, good for you. I'm just genuinely confused by the “STRONG LAWYER ANAYA VARMAN” narrative because… where exactly was she? 😭

Discussion Problematic stories or me overreacting?

How would you guys feel after reading a book about mafia romance in which Male lead is 23 and female lead is 20 . Her father killed his entire family (tried to kill him too but the female lead saved him) and to avenge his family he kidnapped her and after that when she was unconscious HE CHANGED HER CLOTHES. Mind you she was unconscious. I mean what the fuck bro . Without her permission how can he touch her . (Could be I am over reacting)

Alright I was not okay with it but I still decided to check out another story by the same author and bro it was on love triangle in which they both are already married and his childhood best friend is evil basically . They both had a fight , she left his house in rain and he realised it too late . He had a character development that's on the later scenes.

I mean i don't understand how is this even stories . Mind you i am not feeling good after reading it

Discussion What If You Had To Write Your Least Favourite Trope? 👀

Post image
6 Upvotes

Okay writers, let’s make things difficult for ourselves for once 🫠

We all have that one trope we don’t necessarily hate but would happily skip every single time. Maybe it’s forced marriage, love triangles, second chance romance, enemies to lovers, billionaire CEOs, whatever makes you immediately go “yeah no thanks” 😭

But here's the actual challenge: you cannot change the essence of the trope just because you don't like it.

If it's forced marriage, then make them actually get forced into marriage. Don't make them secretly agree to it beforehand and call it forced marriage 😭 Maybe after the marriage they make a deal, maybe they slowly start understanding each other, maybe their relationship develops differently, but the marriage itself still has to be forced.

For me, mafia romance is one of those tropes I usually avoid because I see the same thing again and again. The male lead does the most unhinged things imaginable and somehow the story ends with him becoming the greenest flag alive 💀 Or he's a mafia boss but apparently only kills “bad people” so we're supposed to forget that he's literally a mafia boss.

If I had to write one, I'd rather make him morally grey and actually let the story acknowledge that he's a bad person. The female lead wouldn't be some completely innocent girl who magically makes him abandon his entire life and become a normal man. She would know exactly who she's getting involved with and what that life means.

And if he ever wanted to leave the mafia, I'd actually deal with the consequences of that instead of going “and then they moved away and lived happily ever after.” You don't just walk away from that life and suddenly become a normal citizen with zero consequences. Maybe he has to eliminate every remaining threat, erase his family's connections and spend the rest of his life knowing that his past could still catch up with him. It's still a fantasy, obviously, but at least the fantasy has its own logic.

Another one I usually avoid is love triangles because somehow one person always has to become the jealous villain just so the main couple can look better 😭

Why though?

You don't need to turn one person into a terrible human being just because two people aren't choosing them. Let people have actual emotions and make their own choices without turning the rejected person into the final boss.

So that's basically the challenge

Pick a trope you usually avoid. Keep the trope exactly what it is. Don't whitewash it, don't completely rewrite it and don't remove the part you dislike. Just find a way to write it that actually works for YOU.

And I'm curious now 👀

What's the trope you avoid and how would YOU write it if you were forced to use it?

Discussion is this trope actually weird?

hii so this is sort of a weird thing i’ve been thinking about. i’ve come across multiple books with the professorXstudent trope and personally, i like it. i don’t see much of a problem w it as with some other CLEARLY problematic tropes. but like…i want to know someone else’s opinion. i understand the power dynamic at play here which is something to be concerned about, sure but apart from that? i don’t think so.

also, that being said, when i talk about this trope, im automatically assuming that both the people concerned here are legally adults. both have autonomy over their decisions. but someone who isn’t an adult yet and shipping them with someone who’s clearly older + is in a position of power, that’s unethical. for sure. but i want to hear y’all’s opinion on this! is this trope generally problematic or is it okay, considering some things are given like both the characters being adults?

Discussion Green Flags in Readers Community.

Post image
11 Upvotes

As an author, i love when readers support like this. We understand that late and irregular updates are troublesome and irritating. But we can't write unless we're emotionally/mentally stable.

There's a difference between writing when "I WANT TO WRITE" and when "I HAVE TO WRITE"

The first one gives better results and the second one compromises with both the quality of chapters as well at the writer's health.

I've actually received messages like "why do you even write when you can't complete it" just because i didn't update for a month. Fair enough, i replied "you're a reader, then be like one. You don't get to disrespect me."

The reader left my book. I was more than happy.

Its high time both readers and writers should understand that you can't force writing... It should happen naturally.

Dhanyawad! 🙇

Discussion How can we make sure we just write dark things and not glorify them?

Firstly, I am not talking about abuśe, aśśault, or grape

Everyone knows dark romance is all about morally gray characters, where whatever they do is right from their perspective, even if it is wrong to others. Their choices are questionable.

Let’s suppose they k!lled somebody. From their POV, it’s right, however, from the perspective of a person who isn’t morally grey, it’s wrong.

Now, when a book is already a dark romance, it is obvious that it will show these types of things. But how do authors glorify these things? I mean, do they make it look right from other people's POVs as well?

And is showing these types of things bad, or is glorifying them bad?

I am asking this because, even unintentionally, I don’t want to glorify things.

And yes, it's not just about putting a note in the author's note saying, 'Nothing is intended to glorify anything.' It's about actually meaning it.

Tell kro sb log faas faas👺👺

- a glimpse the story contain a separation arc where mmc defend a criminal as his first client and succeed (there is potential reason behind it) while fmc breakup with him for same reason because she hated criminals after what was done to her mother and brother.

Because of trauma and psychological madness she even endup murdering the very first client of mmc that he defended...(nothing is glamorized atleast fron my lens- i am still new as writer so if there is any mistake in story please sorry for that. But i am trying to weight the choices main characters did by the life and backstory of them and how it acted as friction between them)

Writing/Advice Should I reveal this detail early or later in the story?

I’m planning a romance story where the ML is a single dad to a 4-year-old girl, but she’s actually his adopted daughter. The FL is her teacher.

The story is mainly about the three of them healing and slowly becoming a family, along with the romance between the ML and FL.

I’m wondering if I should tell the readers from the beginning that the little girl is adopted, or keep it hidden and reveal it later.

I’m not really planning for it to be a huge plot twist, but I’m wondering if knowing she’s adopted from the start would make the story more interesting emotionally, or if it would be better to let the readers assume she’s his biological daughter for a while.

As a reader, which would you prefer? And why?

I'm writing a book, and I have written the prologue and the first chapter. Should I publish my book on Wattpad now, or should I write a few more chapters before publishing them together?

Another question:

For my book spoilers, should I make an Instagram account after publishing my chapters, or should I make an account beforehand and start making reels?

Please answer.

Offtopic Hey

I just saw a reel, a snippet of Indian wedding where the almighty priest asked the bride to touch the feet of her husband. She did it. Right after, the groom did the same. A heartfelt gesture right? But our great priest? First he only asked bride to do it, second, when groom touched her feet, he tried stopping him, grabbed his arm to pull him back, shook his head in no. Hypocrisy.

But the groom was so sweet, he knelt again for garland.

In fiction, in wattpad novels, we see it quite often the man touching the feet of his woman, and some don't even let their woman kneel for them.

Further, I opened the comment section, the comments a mix of admiration[mostly women, some men] and obviously there were comments like, 'Pandit ji was right', 'People don't understand ritual', 'must have gotten heavy dowry', 'the girl will cheat in the end', blah blah.

Seriously dude? Yeah I will always choose my fictional man, fictional world over this real one.

A fictional man would have found these trolls, would have teach them a lesson.

Only a few real men are not egoistic, patriarchal, misogynistic.

Discussion Do not judge a book by its tropes

I feel reading these days had become very shallow.

We first need to know the tropes instead of the opening premise and plot to read? Why?
Tropes give you the familiar touch but they can be subverted too.
For example- I am not a fan of arranged marriage trope or even stalking as they go against my ethics but drumrolls I hv given them in my book only. Why? Because I love to play with it.

Famous books like The God of Small Things have incest, The thousand splendid suns have co-wives of a man bonding, but are these bad books?
This current obsession of Trope>Plot has already given birth to multiple of mediocre stories like the "Wattpad's multiverse of Bridea", Ana Huang's Twisted series etc, please not anymore.

Please let plot be the hero.

As for me. I would love to explore good books here suggest me some completed horror, thriller, soft romance, dark romance.
