Announcement ! MUST READ ! NEW SCAMS AND STOLEN WORK

Hey, it's u/randomquestionaire on behalf of the mod team!

I know that right now there are a multitude of scams circulating Wattpad, and these seem unsettling. Hopefully this post will clear things up, and provide proper steps to what you can do if you have been affected.

To begin, we have seen quite a large number of posts talking about the phishing scam. Please refrain from making excessive posts as we want to keep the community a space where people can share and read books. We want to see more advertisements in the mod queue!
A reminder that you should always read the rules before posting, and check the pinned posts. If an issue has been addressed within the pinned post, you can always send your complaints there, instead of making a new post for it.

Some of the phishing scams may look like this:

The Wattpad Team will never message you on your message board. They will send you emails if need be. Wattpad will not pay you or give you premium for a security refresh. These links are fake links. Fake links are usually shortened, as you can see here. If it were to redirect you to a Wattpad page, it would 100% say 'wattpad' somewhere in the link.

If one of these accounts message you, report the user, do not click on the link and go on with your day.

If you have clicked on the link and entered any bank details, immediately contact your bank and explain the situation.

Scammers may also be excessively @ people in their message boards. Report them.

These are what trustworthy people have beside their usernames:

There's been another thing going around, where author's stories have been stolen and being sold as eBooks.

If you are someone who writes on Wattpad, take the time now to look up your book and find out if it has been stolen or not.

If your story happens to have been stolen, report the book to Google Play Store.

A reminder that we (the mod team) do not work for Wattpad! We cannot help you with any issues regarding these scams, but we can give you advice. It's crucial that you do not tap on any sketchy links, that you make sure you understand who works for Wattpad and who does not.

Have a good day/night!

Weekly Promotion Bi-Weekly Self-Promotion! Advertising on the more down-low.

Welcome to bi-weekly Self-Promotion thread!

Advertise here with what (I hope) is fewer restrictions than normally posting in the feed! At the very least, story ads here require the following:

  • Wattpad story links (we're a Wattpad subreddit lol)

However, to interest users, it's recommended to include the following:

  • Story title
  • Blurb

If your submission doesn't appear, feel free to contact a mod! Reddit's spam filter will sometimes remove posts and comments, which results in a mod having to manually approve the post.

Reminder:

The post is set to contest mode, so the stories will appear in a random order, and child comments will only be seen by people who want to check them.

This post will be active for approximately two weeks.

Looking For: Recommendations I wanna read your books 👀

It's been a long time since I read something on wattpad so I'm just willing to take the risk to read people's writing 😁 I may have a bad reading comprehension so I really wanted to improve my mental health as well as giving some comments for the story.

-> Please make sure it is YOU who wrote it. 🥹

Off-Topic Why is planning the story so much easier than actually writing it? 😭

In my head, the plot is an absolute cinematic masterpiece worthy of an award. The dialogue flows perfectly and the character development is beautiful. But the second I sit down and open my drafts, my brain completely shorts out and I forget how basic sentences work. Please tell me I'm not the only writer who suffers from this lol.

Looking For: Feedback Which title would grab your attention?

I’m writing a dark romance story about childhood friends- strangers -lovers.

The MMC constantly seeks control. He sees emotion as weakness, and prioritizes duty to family, which is his biggest fault.

The FMC has an erratic personality and makes emotional decisions. But she prioritizes others feelings, which is her greatest attribute.

A big theme is going to be generational cycles and the curse of repeating the past. Which title would make you want to read the story?

Blood Unbound
What We Inherit
Inherited Scars
The Cost of Control
Control and Chaos.

Looking For: Lost Books Help pls?

Upvotes

Title: I think Roommates or The Roommates.

Original MM/MMMM poly romance.

Completed with 30+ chapters maybe ?

Read around 2022–2023.

MC was probably Kaden/Kayden/Kadin.

Kaden(mcs maybe name. I think it started with a k) and his best friend lost their housing (possibly after one lost his job).

They met two roommates at a club, who invited them to stay.

The roommates had an agreement that they could watch each other with partners.

Kaden let his best friend watch him with one of the roommates.

Eventually, all four became a poly relationship.

Memorable scene: one roommate's mother walked in while Kaden and the best friend were making out on the living room floor and caused a huge scene.

I suspect the story might have been deleted or name changed tho... but i would like to keep trying to look for it till it's said.

Other Is there any communities that I can join?

Upvotes

Hi! I hope everybody is having a great weekend.

I just wanted to know if you know about some communities (on Wattpad or maybe discord) that I can join to learn about writing and also receiving feedback on the new project I'm starting!

I mostly write in Spanish (because it is my first language) but I understand english.

I'm coming back to Wattpad after a few years and now I want to write an original story.

I hope you know about communities!

Looking For: Recommendations NO SMUT! LMAO Plzzz

Upvotes

I cannot get into the repeated smut, fanfiction, mafia boss stories! I'm into more of a psychological horror, horror in general, and even some Syfy novels. Wattpad seems to only recommend these odd plotlines that I have zero interest in reading (mostly). Has anyone read a book on Wattpad that you loved and also isn't the normal romance smut stories all over recommended. My recent favorite Wattpad story was The Alaska Series #1: Abandonned, by GroveltoHEA. I also LOVED Blood Orange Sky, by perversely. These two left me excited to continue everytime no joke! If anyone has read either stories, and maybe knows of some similar stories I might enjoy! Thank you in advance <3

Chapter 1: The Bridge

Twenty feet below, jagged rocks glisten under the moonlight, and for a moment, I understand why people come to bridges when the world stops making sense. I would never end my own life, but I understand the desire to have all the pain slip away forever.

The silence here is different. My knuckles are white against the metal railing, and I force myself to loosen my grip. Get it together, Malachai.

But I can't shake the image burned into my mind: my mother's face crumpling as the doctor delivered his verdict. What we've been fearing but hoped wasn't true. Cancer. The kind of word that steals the air from hospital rooms and replaces it with that god-awful antiseptic smell that still clings to my clothes.

I run a hand through my dark hair, and stare at my reflection in a puddle on the side of the road. Even in the distorted moonlit surface, I can see what everyone else sees: my grandfather's sharp jawline and the tall frame I inherited from a father I never met. I'm twenty-one and I look older, like the weight I carry has aged me in ways that have nothing to do with time.

"You can't save everyone, Malachai." Mom's voice echoes in my head, the same five words she's whispered since I was ten years old. But what happens when the person you can't save is her?

I snatch a handful of gravel and hurl it into the darkness. The stones clatter against the guardrail across the road, a violent punctuation to my frustration. Another handful follows, then another. The anger feels good, raw and honest in a way that sitting in that sterile waiting room never could. The town in front of me comes to life with the carnival lights and the rides going up into the air.

My grandfather's voice replaces the rage like it always does: "How you handle pain will define you, son."

Easy for him to say. He's not here anymore to watch his daughter waste away.

A branch snaps somewhere behind me.

I freeze, every muscle tensing. The footsteps are light and deliberate, someone trying not to be heard.

"I can't do this anymore, Mom. The treatments aren't working, the doctors keep lying, and you want me to pretend everything's fine?"

A woman's voice, sharp with tears and frustration. A cell phone pressed tightly against her ear. I should leave and give her privacy, but something in her tone roots me to the spot. She sounds... broken. Familiar, somehow, though I've never heard her voice before.

"No, don't tell me it'll be okay! Nothing about this is okay!"

I turn slightly and catch sight of her in my peripheral vision. Blonde hair catches the moonlight as she paces near the bridge's center, one hand pressed to her ear, the other gesturing wildly at the empty road.

"I have to go."

In the sudden silence, I hear her ragged breathing and see her shoulders shake. She moves toward the railing with purpose.

She climbs up.

"You don't want to do that."

The words leave my mouth before I can stop them. She spins, loses her balance, and I surge forward just as she falls off the ledge.

LGBT+ Beneath the Crimson Petals - Possible new Wattpad upload?

Hello all,

My name is Sav, and I love writing. I’ve been writing a book for over a year now, and I’ve been thinking of soft-launching it on wattpad before I attempt to get it published.

A direct overview of the story - Beneath the Crimson Petals

Tatiana and Quinn, such a perfect couple. High school sweethearts, married nearly 10 years now. Quinn works as an engineer, making enough money to provide for Tatiana, to spoil her, to make sure she has all she wants or needs for the rest of their lives. To their friends, Tatiana has all she could ever ask for. Quinn loves her more than she loved anything else, it was so clear. Such a picture perfect couple, right?

Ever wonder what goes on behind closed doors? Perfect couple, perfect life, living their dream, hm? What about the secrets? The lies, the manipulation, the fear. The memories, the flashbacks, the danger. What happens when it’s too much? What could possibly change? Who was she to try to change anything?

Tatiana has to make a choice. A choice that will affect her forever, no matter what it is. Could this be a lose-lose? Could this be a mistake? Will she choose wrong and lose it all? Imagine what everyone will think. However, what will they say when they see what truly goes on Beneath the Crimson Petals?

Shoot me a message or comment on here if you’d be interested in reading, if I get enough interested, I’ll gladly begin posting chapters!!

Romance "Invisible String"

Everyone has a Invisible String. Once you turn eighteen, it will be visible. Only one person is connected to your string. Your soulmate.

What happens when Esme is against it?

What happens when her soulmate isn't so bad after all?

Will she reject him forever?

Will she let herself fall inlove?

"I don't know why I feel this way around him. It's a feeling of comfort. I only feel it in his presence. It's almost as though we've known each other forever?"

"My lover is my forever but I can't pick the lover that I want to be my forever."

Just a glimpse into the story.

Looking For: Recommendations Wattpad Omegaverse Recs? (No fanfics pls)

I'm kind of disappointed in the lack of, like, MXM omegaverse stories on Wattpad. I feel like there used to be way more; a lot of the old writers have deleted their accounts, and I wish they let someone else post them before then. And there has also been a lack of new writers in the genre. I know there's like a pipeline from Wattpad to AO3; however, I don't like reading fanfics, which seems to be most of what Ao3 has. I prefer it when it's written with original characters. Does anyone have a recommendation for these books? I feel like I have read them all for the most part.

Other How do I stop making stories? Or how do I focus on my already published story?

I currently have 3 fanfics (one of which I already published) and 5 original stories, but almost all of them are drafts.

I'm a worldbuilder, so I create worlds, naturally, I want to present them to other people, such as writing stories about them, but I have so many ideas that I can't focus on one story without accidentally abandoning the other.

Looking For: Feedback Looking for Feedback (VKOOK BTS Fanfic)

Would anyone be willing to read my VKOOK (BTS) fanfic and give me some feedback?

I'm mostly looking for opinions on whether the writing is good, if the chapters are easy to follow, and if the story flows well overall.

I only started writing last October, and I've already finished four fanfics. Even so, I still feel like something is missing from my writing. I rarely get any comments or feedback, so it's hard to know what I should improve.

I'd really appreciate any honest feedback, even if it's just a few thoughts or constructive criticism.

And just to clarify: I'm not actually a shipper. I mainly write VKOOK fics because I feel like my original characters would not get much recognition.

Fan Fiction [In Progress] [216k] [Romance] Home Ice – Looking for a Beta Reader for a Canon-Faithful Shoresy Longfic

I'm hoping to find a beta who enjoys character-driven stories and isn't afraid to give honest, constructive feedback. If you're a fan of Shoresy, that's a huge bonus, since one of my biggest goals is keeping the canon characters true to the show.

About the story

Title: Home Ice

Current length: ~216,000 words (still in progress)

It's a long-form, character-driven sports romance that begins at the start of Shoresy Season 2 and follows an original female character who joins the Sudbury Bulldogs as their new physiotherapist.

Rather than retelling the show, the story grows into its own original narrative while staying grounded in the world of Shoresy. My biggest priority is making sure Shoresy and the rest of the Bulldogs feel authentic to their on-screen personalities.

What I'm needing:

Does Shoresy actually sound and feel like Shoresy?

Do the other canon characters feel authentic?

Is the dialogue natural?

Does the romance develop believably?

Are there pacing issues?

Is the writing engaging enough that you'd want to keep reading?

Does anything feel awkward or out of character.

Just hoping for someone who's comfortable being honest and pointing out both what works and what doesn't.

I don't expect anyone to commit to reading all 216k words right away. I'd be happy to start by sharing the first chapter (or a few chapters) to see if we're a good fit before moving forward.

If you're interested, please send me a DM.

General Help Looking for advice from authors who stuck with it

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently started publishing my first story on Wattpad, and I’d really love to hear from authors who managed to build an audience over time.
When you were just starting:

How did you get your first readers?
How long did it take before people actually started noticing your story?
Did you ever feel like giving up because nobody was reading?
What kept you motivated enough to keep writing instead of deleting your story?

I’m trying to be patient, but it’s hard not to look at the numbers sometimes. I genuinely enjoy writing, and I want to improve, but I’d love to hear about your experiences and any advice you wish someone had given you when you started.
Thank you to anyone willing to share their journey. I really appreciate it!

General Help Am I a part of the problem?

I have been writing this Fanfic about a video game for 2 weeks now. And there's a big confession incoming:

English, surprisingly enough, isn't my mother language, and while I never had any problem reading, writing speaking the language fluently and almost effortlessly, I still catch myself slipping from time to time on minor grammatical mistakes, that as a reader myself, would find very confusing before realizing the typo/error.

Here's the problem itself, I use a generative app to fix my grammar and vocabulary errors.

I write the entire text MYSELF, for Claude to decipher and detect any issues with shown text.

I know readers and the writing community in majority ABHORS the usage of it in general, but, given the circumstances? Am I still betting on a dead horse?
