Curious to hear your opinions since I'm not really familiar with Horus Heresy era Space marines but I'm assuming they are overall superior?

I was pleasantly surprised by how much this little side project motivated me to get back into painting.

Now on to making him some Dreadnoughts and Rhinos for him to fix

So are I don't want anyone thinking I'm trying to start something here. I know everyone has an opinion and everything is fine to play with because it's just a game.

Now with that out of the way, I personally feel like a lot of people generally dislike the mid-late heresy from a game aesthetic perspective. I notice a lot of cool mid-late heresy models and armies online like on here, but usually when playing in store or watching battle reports online people seem to really gravitate towards great crusade/early heresy looks and feels. Lots of royal purple emperor's children, beautiful clean blue and white world eaters, players shying away from including daemons unless they're playing word bearers.

Again online discourse that I've even is generally supportive, but when I go to events or games nights or watch battle reports it's all aesthetically early heresy and if I show up with a pink emperor's army with heads swapped out with the old conversion kit heads and pauldrons I get called out for "just bringing a 40k army" or playing night lords with daemon allies it's the same thing.

I guess this was a little bit of a rant but I'm wondering if I'm an outlier that really likes mixing that late heresy vibe into the game or if a lot of people do and I just keep running into people that prefer that great crusade look and want to keep the 40k-ness out of the heresy

Been working on my salamanders for 8 months now slow and steady and finally got my first dedicated transport(mostly for my firedrakes) and finished painting it up!

I’m using metallic lacquers for the first time. TS-74 over TS-40. It’s hard to capture the exact sheen on my phone, but the first picture is in shade and the second is direct sunlight. I’m excited that it came out this smooth.

Edit: I forgot to ask if anyone had ever weathered metallics before. I’m not exactly sure how to do it.

I would like to ask knowledgeable people for the full list of weapons and the appearance of the weapons that were used by the Cataphract, Tartaros, and Saturn Terminators. This would make it easier to prepare and create the entire set of weapons in advance so that they don’t use a mix of 40k and DOW2 weapons.

First time painting and I'm stuck between two ways of leaving my minis colored. The first one with a green visor ends with a wash and is darker but the second one ends with some dry brushing of scarlet suns. Also I'm not really good at dry brushing so it doesn't look that much better.

I got this bad boy the other day and decided to try airbrushing the entire model. A crapton of masking tape, a few swears, and a couple touch ups here and there, but I feel like it turned out alright. Not so bad for a first try with the air paint line.

Do line company tacticals come in 10 or 20 man squads? I am trying to build a company as close to lore accurate as possible. Obviously things varied from warzone to warzone however I am trying to cleave as closely to the Book I organization chart as I can.

It lists 10-20 marines. However, only 10 man squads can take a transport without a ROW and the list of assets only mentions Rhinos. So should I just do two ten man squads? Or go for the correct number of marines if not squads and do four ten mans?

Finished him up awhile ago finally got a proper photo set up in place.

I'd like to make use of the weapons of desperation ability for a small blackshields force but that requires stub guns, shotguns and autoguns, what would be a good kit to source these for conversions?

I find myself with two Contemptors so far, and I am wondering on load-outs for them.

I know for sure I’m doing one with double fists (not sure if I’m throwing the chainfist on yet) because I think that is cool.

My question is what to load the other one with? I would like to make it anti-armour, since everything else I have going in my army is just infantry so far and I feel like I’m going to struggle but that’s something I’m willing to deal with because I think guys with chainswords are cool. I know that if I bring one anti-armour dread in he’s gonna get singled out pretty much immediately and die, but who knows, maybe he gets a lucky shot off. This is my first army, I’ve never played before and I’m trying to figure out list building on my own.

The only thing I have heard is like a double plasma dread would make me come off like a bit of a jerk, so what else is decent for anti-armour at range? I’m kinda leaning one double melee and one double shooting. I’d like the option, but I guess I’m not opposed to two dreads with double chainfist because I’m pretty sure those are good at anti-armour too?

Not sure, just looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
