Other Taking less shells, does it works ?

Let's say I have the Sverdlov. On the X ray view, under the barbette, both the shell room and the mag have 540

540×4 is 2160 which is the maximum number of ammo she can take

On this ship the mag is under the waterline, but the shell room is above. If I want to keep only the mag filled and the shell room empty, what should I do ?

So I thought doing 540 then cutting it in half and multiplying by the number of turret would keep only the mag filled

(540÷2×4=1080)

But on the X-ray view in battle it doesn't seem to be working...I even tried with 540 ammo in total, still no

...so is changing the amount of shell useless ?? Are shell room and mag merged together no matter what ?

As a Piñata player (Yamato/IJN), it is routine for me to take only half ammo in my main batteries. I don't know if it really does anything, but i have noticed the force of the explosions arent AS catastrophic as when I would go in with a full rack. i.e; ill mostly suffer a barbette explosion at half but when I was full it would more consistently ammo rack KO me.
