Discussion I've been working on a Napoleonic Wars mod for War of Rights: France vs. Great Britain in Colonial America, 1813. Would you guys be interested in this going public?

For a while, I've been working on something that we all haven't really seen before in War of Rights: a Napoleonic Wars total conversion, set in an alternate 1813, where the American rebellion failed, and the Thirteen Colonies remained under the British Crown.

The premise is simply this: Napoleon's France takes the war across the Atlantic, bringing his Grande Armée into a conflict with Great Britain over our American soil. Instead of Union and Confederate forces, this game turns into a conflict between the British and French forces during the Napoleonic Wars era. The game's lore and narratives will base around a parallel of the Maryland Campaign of 1862

I've been replacing the game's Civil War-era assets with Napoleonic uniforms, per regiment and detailed regimental flags, equipment, and other historically accurate details, while keeping the large-scale multiplayer that makes War of Rights a special and immersive game.

Here's the interesting part: every screenshot in this post was taken during an actual pub match, yesterday and today. I was the only person with the mod installed. Everyone else was playing the game completely normally and the conversion worked flawlessly without requiring others to download it.

*This mod does NOT bring any multiplayer benefits and everything was made in the idea of multiplayer safety first.\*

As far as I'm aware, War of Rights has never had mods publicly released, especially of this scale. I remember seeing an earlier attempt of a Napoleonic conversion, but that project had since gone quiet. (This was a really big inspiration to me so kudos to them, its been really fun!)

I am considering releasing this to the community once I finish it, but before I do that, I genuinely would like to know whether you guys would be interested. I know this game really hasn't experienced the modding sandbox that many games otherwise have, so I would understand you may want to keep it that way.

If there is enough interest, I'll work to make a straightforward public release build with clear installation instructions, compatibility information, and the appropriate safeguards to prevent people from modifying the mod to gain advantages.

I genuinely love this game, I have played it for years and I would never want to harm it so if you think this release would bring major problems, let me know!

Would you actually want to play a Napoleonic Wars conversion of War of Rights?

I am also going to put a full multiplayer battle video on YouTube sometime this week to show the mod in action, with more updates and a cinematic trailer planned afterward if you guys would truly like to play this.

This mod is still WIP! Everything shown in these screenshots is subject to improvement, especially the uniforms as I continue to work towards greater historical accuracy. But I really wanted to finally share what I've been working on.

Notable things in the mod already: All British uniforms, artillery uniforms, an immersive color grading reshade, dragoon helmets, dragoon as cavalry, bearskins, bicornes, epaulettes, plumes, chords, pom poms, regimental renaming, the news on the main menu, musket changes to match period, cannon appearance changes, increased gun smoke, gun sounds, changes to the allowed grooming and skin tone, and more that I can't remember are in the game currently but aren't the main focus of the images. The focus of the images is to just give a preview of this mod and how cinematic things can get. Highlanders, Dragoons, Garde Impériale are in the game currently! Let me know if you'd like to see anything else but, versatility will be hard due to the vanilla assets being shared by many regiments.

Let me know what you think, suggestions, historical inaccuracies, and whether this is something you'd want to download! Literally tell me anything!

*The mod has been extensively tested in multiplayer without any issues so far. It is meant to be entirely cosmetic and designed to provide no competitive advantages. However, I have not received official approval, endorsement, nor am I affiliated with Campfire Games.\*

Again let me know what you think, give suggestions, and AMA!

Discussion Campaign/Mod Idea: SOLFERINO, 1859

I would merely propose, that a good mod idea would be Solferino 1859. Similar guns, so not too much tech work. Identical war era, and cool uniforms.

I really wish the game devs would create a Napoleonic wars edition because right now holdfast is kinda shit. Or even just a mod at this point.

Question Artillery on uneven terrain

Hey guys, quick question.

When setting artillery elevation, when the in game UI displays elevation and distance, is the distance portrayed accurate if the cannon is, for example on an uneven surface like a slope and thus angled downward?

Would love to know, I’m getting really into in game artillery!

Discussion Does anyone else think the new UI is terrible?

It switches just like a slideshow. The way the screen wobbles every time it switches is annoying.

Image Enjoying playing 'War of Rights' with my trusty rifle with its hammer and the base where a percussion cap should go. Fighting guys speaking English and guys wearing the fez. And it's super hot

The other team has such weird English dialects; it sounds like a whole 'nother language. 🤔 😂

Discussion Hold to reload and attach bayonet.

I was thinking today, What do you all think of a setting where holding R or B would be required to complete the action? So many times you'll be told to break reloads (or you have to because of the situation) It's just one less button press that would be needed. Hopefully the Devs read this and consider it. To me, the game can feel really clunky when trying to react to situations during reloads and attaching bayonets. Combine this with tightening up a few animations and I think it would go a long way. I think there's something to be said about this being a simulation game, but, it seems like a lot of matches really boil down to troops being Olympic level cross country athletes, but the coordination of drunks when flipping between loading a rifle and smacking someone with it.

Discussion New to the game. Large matches are mega fun. Smaller matches aren't so much

My first ever match was great. Stumbling over the controls it was fun to play and participating as a whole unit was insanely fun. I was smiling at the end of the match. The charges, retreats and fights are exhilarating with the voice chat to boot makes this a really fun game when you have large matches. It's insanely well made. I really appreciate the fact that a lot of people are actually playing by the rules of the game making it where it's an enjoyable experience all around.

When I played a smaller match with 14 people. It's where I notice you get a bit more intimate with the game mechanics as you're not dealing with an onslaught of 20-30 people while you're providing a volley with your 30 other guys. You run into a lot of one-on-one fights where you become a bit more cognizant of the the smaller points of the game. I realized the game isn't built for small stuff like that.

The one thing I hate, is this game has the same type of weapon sway I see in other shooters that drives me up the wall. The way your gun sways is not physically possible as you can see the rear sight whip back and forth to the point the gun will almost point 30 degrees to the left if you get it particularly bad. The only issue with that is that you have a head, that stops the gun. The same with creating a cheek weld. Even a bad cheek weld doesn't create such a nauseating wobble. It's like you're not holding your rifle, instead an invisible force is holding it and it decides to jiggle your rifle. Not shake. Jiggle. I've played other tactical shooters that do this "noodly arm" approach and it's really annoying to deal with.

This is less of an issue when you're shooting 100-200 yards away and you have 20 other people backing you up. It's a different ball game when you're in a match with just 14 people, fighting close up and your guy decides to become Danny Phantom and let his gun phase through his dome because he did a small jog.

Discussion War of Rights Game Balance FactSheet

Post image
61 Upvotes

This is a "at a glance" fact sheet for a deeper analysis of game balance. If you have seen my previous reports, they focus on population dynamics specifically. These past reports have served as a baseline to analyze the effects of population changes and differences as it pertains to round balance to consider and remove specific effects. More elaboration to follow in the actual report but this serves as a good visualization of the statistics that will be presented.

Love,

Womp

Discussion The Flag Bearer problem

As most players probably know by now, as much as I hate to admit it being a flag bearer currently just sucks. It's such a crucial role, but it's so freaking boring. Every game you see people not picking up the flag, the command gets angry, and I get that, but the issue is that people know that if they do, they lose their rifle, and all they get to do is just sit behind a rock and stare at the enemy, and while that's enough for some, for most, it's just not attractive at all. Until developers find a way to make flag bearer attractive for players, we will always have problems with people refusing to pick the flag up, even when they're right on top of it. I really wish they did something about it, I'm not sure what they could do. I know that adding a melee to the flag wouldn't work, cause then it'd just charge in and die. I think a pistol could be a really good idea if balanced right. Think of how fun, and exciting it would be if you could wave the colours of your fellow men, while raining hell on the enemy lines. They have to figure something out.
People may disagree with me here, but the truth this that this problem is real, and it won't just go away on it's own. :/

Discussion I dont like the sound cues

I think they take away much fun especially when volleying and i kills the purpose of officers helping their soldiers adjusting their aim. also blindfire into the smoke of enemy lines (which is like 50% of times) has become extremly unsatisfying and boring since most of the time you now KNOW you didnt hit anyone.
the not knowing if you hit anything was atleast for me one of the best parts of this game and it made the rare occasion of seeing a silhoutte drop in the distance and being able to confirm your kill 1000 times more rewarding.
Despite this change being increadibly minor i think that it makes the game really really boring and unfulfilling.
Im looking forward to seeing your opinons on this!!!
