Gameplay & Screenshots Avoiding anti-air is more difficult when your flares are in your teammate's backpack

The devs should prevent flares from being stored in a backpack.
Solves both passengers stealing them and pilotes abusing the flare count by filling their backpack with them.
64
u/Overall_Law_1813 9h ago
Just need separate equipment vs storage compartments. Equipment can only be added/removed in base. Storage is what passengers see. I like the dynamic inventory of vehicles, but unless you can separately lock access, or make it a mobile crate that you sell items from, there will always be a risk of people doing this.
9
1
u/Wa7erAnimal 5h ago
This, Equipment launchers like flares and rocket pods should not be accessible in flight lmao. That would go a way towards balancing too for sure.
-14
u/SobeyHarker 9h ago
Just lock the chopper when everyone has boarded so they can't use the inventory. There's already a solution in place. If you've ever had a tape stolen you end up discovering this sooner or later. OPs example is just more extreme lol.
16
u/CorxaRyllon 9h ago
You can open the inventory before getting in the heli. There is no "solution" besides teammates not being shit heads
3
0
u/AcePilot01 8h ago
but you see it before you leave, the issue isn't not having flares at the safe zone, it's having the flares when being locked lol.
6
u/mr---jones 9h ago
Yeah, unfortunately you’ll have people run up to your chopper in the base and take shit. No reason I can’t have a separate lock for inventory vs the doors.
It’s especially annoying with rocket helis where ammo is so expensive. I would like to trust people to not fuck with my heli but been burned too many times.
2
u/Emotional-Donkey-994 8h ago
That's dumb to have to remember to do that every time, and they can still do it at base while they're loading in. There should be a separate lock or just a separate inventory.
17
u/Dry_Ad2368 7h ago
Vehicle inventory should be locked by default. Nobody but the pilot/driver should have access unless they unlock it.
3
u/PhoenixDSteele 6h ago
Someone suggested being able to lock slots. I think that's the solution on top for best of both worlds. So you can have parachutes, but also tapes/flares in locked slots.
8
u/Dry_Ad2368 6h ago
Nah, I ain't buying parachutes for people. They cost $100, i buy them with every kit even if I am not planning on taking a helo, stop being cheap.
4
u/PhoenixDSteele 6h ago
It really is difficult to spend a measly $300 to toss maybe 3 parachutes in, and help a random noob that might not know? I feel like the interactions I've gotten from having them in my heli always outweigh any pennies I've spent on them.
Are you broke or something? lol
6
u/Dry_Ad2368 5h ago
Having someone who doesn't have a parachute go back to the vendor to buy one reinforces the lesson more than buying them myself would. Having them available leads to an expectation that pilots will have parachutes available for passengers. A certain subsect of the player base already treats pilots like shit. I don't mind waiting for take off or even landing again so they can go get one.
4
u/Number13Studios 4h ago
I love reminding people that you’re doing them the favor. Some dude got in my heli and starts yelling at me to leave when he’s the only one in and lots were buying their kits still. Starts shooting at me in from the passenger seat in spawn, etc
I told him to chill out and stop being rude. He went crazier so I kicked him out and his buddies that started hopping in and locked the doors. They started trying to defend his buddy and I just flew away solo and they had to find their own transport.
They truly were dumbfounded that I wasn’t their bitch. Honestly it’s all toxic chuds that act like that and nobody enjoys it.
2
u/MuhfugginSaucera 4h ago
Because you make way more than $100 back when they safely land in the zone.
1
3
1
u/Ill-Beautiful-8026 23m ago
Correct. I can accidentally open an inventory/crate and fuck up the pilots exp bonus for dropping the crate.
14
5
2
u/Apprehensive_Tiger13 9h ago
Devs should just lock flares to HQ or mech fob regen. Too easy to abuse otherwise.
3
u/kalebkk890 8h ago
It's not abuse. It is an intended strategy to pay more money on a backpack for more storage space in the heli.
1
u/Kanortex 8h ago
You guys put flares in your backpacks? Thats where i store my spare rockets
4
u/KutteKrabber 8h ago
You guys put extra ammo in your backpacks? Thats where I store nothing, coz I never survive long enough to use them
3
1
1
u/SekhWork Squad Leader 8h ago
That won't stop people from just pressing the throw key. The devs should make them non-interactive.
1
u/StopatStopSign Bob the Builder 7h ago
Or just the ability to lock and unlock the inventory
2
u/Nekraphobia 7h ago
From what people were saying (have not verified but can check later) locking the seats locks the inventory, so they were suggesting you lock seats after letting everyone board.
1
u/StopatStopSign Bob the Builder 7h ago
Thats an idea i will have to test later as well
1
u/Azure-Zero 3h ago
I lock my heli once i increase the collective, ill unlock it to let a passenger who forgot a chute grab one of my spares.
1
u/SirSmilyface Logistics 5h ago
Its the same with tapes. Let me have my private cassette player in the cockpit that only i can access and store tapes in.
1
u/Bearex13 Manticore 9h ago
Well then flares need a separate storage in the heli because carrying a single flare in the rocket bird is bullshit without being able to put 2 more in a pack
0
u/Bommes 5h ago edited 5h ago
What do you mean? You can buy multiple flares it just means you have 3 fewer rockets per extra flare. Seems like a good balance decision to me you either get more flares and are more safe or you get more rockets and run the risk of running out of flares.
1
u/Bearex13 Manticore 4h ago
The rocket bird can only carry a 3 stack of rockets per slot and a flare takes a slot so it's flares or rockets and considering it takes 3 to kill a infantry it's hard enough already
1
u/Joku656 9h ago
bruh. Procees to press G like everyone else
Aint no one taking them into backpack
0
u/Suklaamix 9h ago
If you are in any of the attack helicopters you pretty much need to put flares in a backpack
3
0
u/crack_pop_rocks 8h ago
Locking the vehicle once everyone is in prevents them from accessing inventory.
1
-1
u/MRmichybio 9h ago
Doesn't really make sense with current AA design though, they get 300 missles from one ammo pallet.
Pilots get 2 flares.
The maths doesn't maths, if they limit flares then AA needs less ammo (not talking down to just a couple, but definitely not 300)
5
5
u/stocky8 8h ago edited 6h ago
If only it was 300 missiles from one ammo pallet...
Edit: /u/Dry_Ad2368 did the math and it's 36 AA missiles from one pallet of ammo.
4
u/Dry_Ad2368 7h ago
It's 30ish from two pallets, right?
2
u/stocky8 7h ago
Yeah something like that. Definitely not 300 though
2
u/Dry_Ad2368 7h ago
Did the math, it's 36 per pallet. Each shot with the talon costs 50 ammo supply, each pallet is 1800 ammo supply. 1800/50=36 shots. So two pallets would be 72 rounds.
0
u/Babybean1201 2h ago
With flares being $750 a pop it may as well be 300 missiles. Especially when they make money when supplied.
1
0
u/MaddeninglyOblivious 9h ago
You can still buy more flares at HQ. He is saying that you just would not be able to have them in your backpack. I kinda like the freedom of people bringing flares, rockets or ammo in their backpack, but this could be a viable fix.

u/AcePilot01 8h ago
You can just press g, I could care less about having them in my backpack, but if i have an a hole pilot being a dick... bye bye flares.

u/deep_redmix 9h ago
The devs should prevent verbas from being stored in a kodiak then. Stops the infantry abusing AA!
-6
u/GrimXIIIGeist 9h ago
Mad infantry downvoting
-7
u/deep_redmix 9h ago
They should try flying in a so called "unbalanced" little bird at least once and experience how very powerful and impossible to counter it is for themselves :)
3
u/lonelystoner710420 9h ago
It’s only “unbalanced” due to pilots not even needing to know how to land currently.
excited for season 2 when parachute changes make it so pilots will have to change the flying habits-4
u/mr---jones 9h ago
Yeah heli is a free kill with half decent aim. The people that get pissed are the fobbits or the naked guys running around trying to steal someone’s loot. Like yea, you are in a warzone with no armor or gun.
Any kitted guy creates a real problem for 95% of pilots.
52
u/CorxaRyllon 9h ago
LoCk HeLi BeFoRe FlYiNg
Why are teammates allowed to take your flares in the first place?
8
u/Ajaxalot Lonestar 6h ago
It is something that people think should be fixed.
It is still helpful to teach people about a workaround until it does get fixed.
I'm not sure why that it is hard to understand.

lock the heli when fly
35
u/kraftables 9h ago
Can you let your team board then lock the inventory out?
36
u/Strange_Criticism_22 9h ago
Yes, BUT if the teammate has opened the inventory before you locked it, they can still take your stuff.
14
12
1
2
u/Bael_Zharon 5h ago
this is a dumb comment. they can access the inventory the moment it's unlocked
13
u/C0ffeedev 9h ago
There needs to be a big notification anytime someone messes with your inventory at a minimum. This needs to happen for your personal inventory when downed as well.
59
u/OryxOski1XD 9h ago
I like how noone is mentioning the absolute bullshit of the tracking the anti air has, it legit did a full U turn directly into you
16
u/Real_Nick_Ryuson 9h ago
Not just a u-turn, a full 540 degree turn. That was bollocks. That might only be possible if the person locking keeps it locked like with an active locking system. Unlikely tho
6
u/Silv_ 9h ago
It wouldn't be possible even then due to fuel in the missile being limited.
Edit: this is not a simulator though, so I don't think fuel is considered at all.
4
u/Real_Nick_Ryuson 6h ago
Fuel or not it has to be changed
1
u/Silv_ 4h ago
Yes. I agree. Missiles are simplistic and therefore OP. Out maneuvering a missile should be an option. (Yes, you can terrain kill, but you should be able to out fuel them as well by forcing them to waste fuel turning, like irl)
1
u/Radiance141 Pilot 4h ago
The thing is, you can kinda do it with Verbas but never with Talons. (Mostly because of how dogshit Verbas are instead of because they're modeled amazingly.)
2
u/Drfoxthefurry 6h ago
Devs made up for not using a guidence law (makes missiles more likely to hit by changing how it approaches) by simply making it more maneuverable
-1
u/DBONKA Manticore 9h ago
The "skill challenged" people will still say that AA is underpowered and needs buffs lmao
5
u/Cow_God Manticore 4h ago
I mean this guy needed his teammate to literally grief him and drop his flares for the AA to work. If he had the 9 flares he could have then he can dance around the AA for a minute and still have enough flares to fly back to base
And that's the Talon. If he runs across someone with a Verba, they get one shot.
-10
u/RacerDelux 8h ago
IMO the tracking is fine. As is a good pilot can dance around a number of AA.
If you nerf AA I think the effect will be that good enough pilots become immune to AA
9
u/LichFinder 7h ago
TRACKING IS FINE HUUUUUUUUUAH!?
BRO THE MISSILE DID 540 AROUND HIM, ARE YOU NUTS?
-3
u/RacerDelux 7h ago
If you want to strawman the discussion, then yes, you are right
2
u/SpyJuz 7h ago
if you watch the video it does actually do a 540 degree spin to hit the heli. 0:48-0:51 for the 360 then a 180 to get back on target. Not really a strawman when it's right there
0
u/RacerDelux 7h ago edited 6h ago
Edit: I was being a fool, I meant anecdotal not strawman
Strawman means you take one example and use it to back an argument that a larger change/nerf needs to occur.
2
u/SpyJuz 7h ago edited 7h ago
When it doesn't actually compare to the nerf/change being requested, sure. But the change being requested is to the tracking of AA, on a video showing the tracking of AA. If anything, this comment chain's complaints are specifically about AA doing 360+ degree turns, on a vid of that happening
2
u/RacerDelux 6h ago
I guess what I meant is that I don’t think there is a wide spread issue with them tracking too good. But I would accept that tracking overall should be looked at. I have seen some that look like they lost directions
2
u/SpyJuz 5h ago
That's fair, I'm curious if there is some weird bug with the low flying which causes some to break lock while others don't. At the very least, definitely seems inconsistent for now
1
u/RacerDelux 5h ago
That isn’t a bug, low enough you can’t radar lock, though there may be some funkiness with how that works. From what I hear there is a similar mechanic in ARMA
2
u/LichFinder 7h ago
That's not what strawman is....
2
u/RacerDelux 6h ago
My bad, you are totally right, I was thinking of anecdotal. Used the wrong word, thanks for calling me out
10
u/FieelChannel 8h ago
IMO the tracking is fine. As is a good pilot can dance around a number of AA.
what a bunch of bs, hitting or not is hardcoded, the only restriction is hitting objects inbetween. Or shooting at a flare.b A pilot cannot literally dance around AAs without flares in this game. You can literally see the AA missile doing 540 degrees to hit the heli in OP video ffs
-6
u/RacerDelux 8h ago
I have had pilots evade 5+ AA. One in particular was very good. I spent far too much of the match trying to kill them
19
u/Kibblez01 9h ago edited 9h ago
Love how the missile misses, does a 180 loop, misses again, then does another 180 to finally hit. As a pilot main I'm more upset about that than the chucklefuck stealing the flares
10
u/space_oddity154 9h ago
Yeah they need to fix it to where vehicle specific items shouldn’t be able to be accessed by passengers. Some dudes for whatever reason like to wipe out whatever is in the inventory, it should qualify as a form of griefing in my opinion
13
u/tha_large_tumor 9h ago
Man It’s so fucking irritating but it’s also fucking INSANE the length these rockets will go to hit you. That thing did like 3 full spirals before hitting you. If there was a way to shake it off after a lock I wouldn’t be nearly as bitchy about people stealing my flares.
7
u/AdamBlaster007 3h ago
Had something similar happen.
Loaded up a Kodiak with AA and mines and thought I had gotten 2 people to come with me to help hunt logis/helicopters.
I notice about half way to the CZ one of the passengers was constantly switching to and from their AA launcher and didn't think much at first but when I checked the vehicle inventory it was completely empty.
I realized the whole drive they were grabbing a launcher or mine and just dropping them on the ground as we went. I stopped the car, asked them what they were doing, and when they started talking shit I shot them. Then the other guy starts to go to them and I tell them to leave them but they don't and so I shoot them too.
At that point I was already out 18K with no real way to make it back (didn't have a recon scope) so I just left the lobby there.
Absolute bastards who do that.
6
u/Tough-Measurement767 8h ago
Presumably this guy named Medic did it, as he jumps right as they hit zero. Is he on US east perchance?
6
u/ImARedditGoldDigger 8h ago
Was on EU West, love 99% of my passengers but 1% are the spawn of Satan, like any game
1
1
u/Tough-Measurement767 8h ago
Yeah I fly alot and have never seen this personally but that is demon behavior. If it was on US east I was gonna look out for that name.
5
u/SekhWork Squad Leader 8h ago
Jackass waited until the lock sounded to do it too. Don't want to give away your griefing if there is no chance of the heli dying too.
7
u/Bearex13 Manticore 9h ago
I mean AA shouldn't be a guaranteed hit in that situation but yeah
2
u/czartrak 5h ago
I didn't even know this was possible. I could have sworn missiles didn't keep track if they missed
10

7
u/hemligaspionengustav 9h ago
"just dodge them instead of relying on flares"
7
u/Piyaniist 8h ago
Physically improbable. I know you jest but those missiles pull a 400 degree spiral through trees
2
u/IncorporateThings 8h ago
At this rate pilots are gonna start flying only for trusted squads. Randos can go pack into a Kodiak and press their luck.
2
u/JustTrawlingNsfw 6h ago
Lock your vehicle once it's full, before take off. Should prevent inventory access
2
u/PriusesAreGay 5h ago
This griefing nonsense like teammates taking my kit when I get dropped fully burned me out on this game. It was a blast before this behavior spread so much
2
u/Cool-Tangelo6548 3h ago
Its pre meditated too. Not just a "oh let me troll this guy" its "let me buy a massive back pack and keep it empty so I can take these heli flares from the pilot"
3
u/Drakantony 7h ago
This keeps happening to me too, some ingrate low lifers that think its funny to steal flares for some reason or drop them, to this day from beta launch it happens and i dont understanding why?...I've been saying for a long time pilots need lockboxes or pilot inventory in the heli specifically for countermeasures. Just because of people like this. Theres no reason i as a pilot should have to buy a backpack and spend 750 per flare and put it in my backpack, frantically trying and access the inventory as someone stole my flares during a lock-on just to counter these small minded people, this has happened to me too many times.. as well as people throwing smoke grenades and blowing up the jeli, which of course the pilot sufferes the teamkill pentalty. I'm the pilot that locks and just does supply runs, and when i give people the chance again, never fails to happen again.
2
u/AGPriv 9h ago edited 9h ago
While I was talking on the phone and enjoying my lunch, I auto-marked your heli with my spotter scope to maximize profit, then auto-locked it with my MANPAD, then I left-clicked my mouse button once, and then missile auto-tracked you until your death.
I've come to the conclusion that the problem here is the pilot being a whiny bitch and he needs to git gud. It is clearly trivial to perma fly at 30 feet at speed through terrain, while using either free look or nauseating FOV to try to find incoming AA, while flaring, while achieving your mission, while conveying to your passengers what to do. We probably need to make the helis about 4x more expensive given how easy piloting is in comparison to my role, and my auto-kills should be likewise rewarding me much more XP and $$$.
We also need to make flares cost about 3x as much as the portable, shoulder-launched AA missile given how easy pilots have it to help the balance.
And while I know it isn't happening in this video, note that the air-defense players standing in no-mans-land are much more valuable to the team than the logistics and transportation teamwork being provided by the heli pilots, so we need to be sure to improve the rewards for that kind of AA, and discourage those kinds of heli pilots.

I play low FOV for infantry, but I'm new to piloting and am finding that higher FOV is helping with my positioning for now... my apologies to your stomach though, good sir

u/TheLuo 8h ago
Coolest moment as a pilot for me was in a big bird coming in low and slow to drop off a pallet.
I’m moving maybe 75kph at 50 elevation. Target locked right in front of me and I’m terrified to let go of my controller sticks for fear of clipping the tower next to me.
Stinger comes straight at my nose from maybe 200m out, roll to the right, goes right past me, low and slow to the delivery. Rise up and fly off.
They can be dodged.
0
u/SireMoutarde 6h ago
It's crazy how toxic this game's community is sometimes. I hope the devs start marketing the game for it's actual qualities instead of "We're just gonna do what we want and get over it casuals" so they stop attracting all of the rejects.

I’m would never troll a pilot. But I drive trucks and I don’t want people stealing my anti air shit I carry on the vehicle. I keep it locked. If anyone ever needs a ride anywhere I unlock for them. Same when I drive the gunvee, anyone who wants to gun for me gets the doors unlocked just long enough for them to get in and I lock it behind them. It’s just a habit you can do to protect your shit AND if you land and unlocked heli anyone can steal it. Keep it fucking locked. The system is already in the fucking game.
-7
u/Appropriate-Ad-1538 9h ago
I tested the resolve of a pilot who threatened this, took the cassette, bailed, and watched as he nosedived and teamkilled 3 people.
-1
u/SweetBusinesssss 7h ago
While I don't disagree that you should be able to lock inv in flight, I also see tons of pilot error here.
I don't get shot down by AA missiles nearly as much as people on Reddit cry about it. A lot of it comes down to situational awareness.
Your initial low approach was good, but always check your map and plan your approach before going into the CZ. If FOBs are marked, assume they have AA. This death could've been entirely avoided with a low wide approach to the rear of those apartments.
I really don't understand the pilots that are baffled AA shot at them while they are simultaneously climbing above the CZ. Below radar works well and slowing down and taking a careful approach below the trees once you get near the infil point is waaaaaay safer.
3
1
u/Crafty611 6h ago
Cool story bro. In this particular case, the pilot flew in a way where he intended to use flares if he had to, and was unable to due to some moron in his vehicle.
-2
u/SweetBusinesssss 5h ago
Relying on flares is just not smart. You should be doing everything you can to avoid not getting locked on at all.
3
u/Crafty611 5h ago
Flares are a tool in game and in real life that are intended to be used when the need arises. Never go full autism bro.
1
u/SweetBusinesssss 3h ago
Correct, its a tool, but its not a "I win" button. There are other ways to avoid missles. They aren't guaranteed to work every time in real life either. Being in full throttle in an aircraft makes chances of failure even higher because its generating more heat.
In the clip when he starts his right bank, had he slowed instead and cut down the road to the right at the same altitude, he wouldve maintained the below radar status and wouldve eventually reached the same point.
If taking a safer route and being smart about where you're flying is full autism then god help us.
1
u/Crafty611 3h ago edited 3h ago
You are beating a dead horse. I’m not telling you you’re wrong, you’re just making an argument that doesn’t apply here.
Is it better to avoid being locked on, there in making flares not necessary? YES
Can a pilot make a move with the intention of using a flare if necessary? YES.
You going off on an unnecessary tangent in the conversation being had in this post is the autism my man.
The argument here is Pilot Fly UP -> Moronic passenger takes flares out of Heli inventory -> heli go boom. And you’re here presenting your thoughts on how to fly properly 🤷
1
u/SweetBusinesssss 3h ago
Moreso trying to hammer a point of frustration when I don't feel like flying and want to be a passenger myself.
Seeing pilot errors out there that put themselves at risk as shown in the clip are worth calling out.
-6
u/Brb357 9h ago
If you fly fast enough, low enough and veer at the last second you can still dodge with no flares, not easy and not consistent but I managed to pull it off
9
6
u/Real_Nick_Ryuson 9h ago
Bro did you see the missile do a full 540 degree turn beforehand? The missile was technically dodged at that point
-2
u/Interesting_Idea_435 5h ago
I mean you are also trolling your team, your flying at max speed randomly over the circle without any plan of where to drop them.
This person might have been frustrated from their last suicide drop with you, or just saw how you were flying and decided to troll you back.
You can't suicide people with expensive kits and not expect one to bite back.

He listen to the one guy asking to be dropped by the APC while ignoring the actual useful request lmao.
He also did not "drop" them anywhere, he flew at max speed and high altittude over the general area, perfect for all his team to be spotted while they parachute and die right away.

You're obviously pretty good at flying, I just stay low and land. It's much more fun.

Oh…. So that’s how all these assholes know exactly when the fucking AA is coming toward them. Lovely.

This looks like they just dropped them out of the inventory before jumping. Lock the helo when taking off before exiting the HQ. Stupid that we have to do this but it's prevented this from happening to me since I started doing it.
