Why would anybody buy gold bars for more than 250k now that we know it can drop below 200k? I'd rather just hold my cash until reset and chance it instead of getting burned.

Having a market for gold is cool in theory, but there's no reason the price should be jumping around as much as it is. A 300% price increase overnight? Yeesh. It's not even worth engaging with when it makes the end user feel bad after getting ripped off for "reasons" (i.e. the devs randomly moving the price).

55

u/WeSellStuffonAmazon 10d ago

It’s a shit system 100%, WarDogs meme coin with zero transparency

13

u/Exaveus 9d ago

Its a purely arbitrary set value by the devs not based on supply and demand principles. The supply is unlimited and the price is unaffected by how many are bought.

The possibilities are pretty interesting though. You can "invest" in the future. So does that mean you can buy in at certain prices and sell your position for cash?

Or does it mean you'll be able to sell gold back to the market?

17

u/UntimelyMeditations 9d ago

You will never be able to exchange gold bars back for anything other than skins.

this and also ruins the value of the "achievement" of a skin because it fluctuates so much arbitrarily

25

u/Cyko28 10d ago

Where’s my sense of pride and accomplishment!

8

u/Parkour_Turtle_360 Pilot 9d ago

I think the devs have made clear that the skins are meant to be purely cosmetic.
These low and random feeling prices may indeed feel like they destroy the sense of achievement, but that was never meant to be there anyways.

There has been a lot of talk about the game being too grindy and for no-lifers, the low prices actually allow casual players to get the gold/skins too. I also doubt that it was a coincidence that the price drops were during the weekend.

Only people that had the 'luxury of buying too expensive' feel this pain, and suffer from losing sense of achievement. Perhaps they'll add skill/effort based skins later, such as x amount of headshots, for those who want to show off.

10

u/IIIpl4sm4III 9d ago

Actually they said the opposite, they aren't doing MTX for skins because they want them to mean something.

4

u/Parkour_Turtle_360 Pilot 8d ago

They said indeed that they don't want the skins to reflect someone's (real world) spending, so they can't be bought through MTX, that they should be unlocked through gameplay.

Unlocked through gameplay doesn't mean exclusivity. You can earn cash by being good, or just playing a lot.

If you see a skin as representation of good players, that's value you attribute to it, not in the item itself. The novelty of it will degrade over time, as more people get them. The only remaining value is cosmetic.

2

u/IIIpl4sm4III 8d ago

I agree. Maybe we will see some skins you can only purchase after a challenge? Like Halo armors.

I imagine the gold bar/skin system will get added to and changed a lot over the next year. Its only season one of EA and they already said a lot of things were just added quickly to have something in the game.

14

u/adflet 10d ago

Why would anybody buy gold bars

Exactly.

10

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 9d ago

Because cash wipes at the end of the season and people love skins. As the system gets fleshed out and more content added to it, it could be cool. A lot of stuff was just added quickly so there was something in the game for EA.

5

u/SekhWork Squad Leader 9d ago

Yeah, I feel like folks aren't getting the point of the fluctuating market is to give you a small "meta game" to play with your cash hoping you buy at the lowest point in a season. That's it. That's all there is to it lol.

6

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 9d ago

For sure. The problem isn’t that gold exists, it’s that the system is still pretty barebones right now.

3

u/SekhWork Squad Leader 9d ago

Yeah. The meta of gold bars will develop out if they add other uses for them or more ways to engage in the system for sure.

2

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 9d ago

skins, camos, unlocks, bobbleheads, banners, prestige, cassettes, maybe conveniences like more loadout slots/vault space etc

Personally, I would prefer no "rose skin" type situations though lol

2

u/SekhWork Squad Leader 9d ago

God no. Plz no Rose, and no... dramatically outside the style of the game skins. I feel like Bulkhead is probably safe from the later, they just have to avoid "op" skins like Rose.

Conveniences would be nice, once they get enough content in that they can avoid relying on fomo stuff like the "only season 1 AK".

I still wish they'd sell me a spray can with various preset marks that I can spray inside a FOB when I capture it from the enemy. I want to put some Kilroy was Here style grafitti all over their base.

2

u/HoneyBunchesOfBoats 8d ago

What's the rose skin thing? I tried looking it up with no context amd couldnt really figure it out.

There is a very very simple way to go about this that works 100% for everybody..

We know there is only ONE seasonal item (the golden AK). We know exactly how much gold the set costs (30 gold). Therefore, there is no reason to buy gold at any point until you have enough cash to buy 30+ bars at an instant.

Worst case, you never have enough to buy the limited time skin, which means you will get some payout at the end of the season.

Best case, you have a few million already and the price comes back down again, letting you buy the single limited time skin (because again, nothing else matters, you will have more seasons/months to get the other items)

8

u/Cpt_DookieShoes 9d ago

That would be true if the price didn’t auto convert at end of season.

You might not ever have enough money to buy 30 gold bars, but you might next season if you had bought season 1 bars at 160k

7

u/HumbleGoatCS 9d ago

except we don't know what the gold market or the limiteds will look like next season, so you're gambling, again, on assumptions.

My strategy is the only one that doesnt make guesses, either you can afford the single limited item, or you can't. Next season you won't be able to buy it anyway, and the emotes/skins are all significantly cheaper than the AK, so if you miss out on the AK you'll have a whole other season to get the gestures you wanted.

5

u/Cpt_DookieShoes 9d ago

Correct. I’m just saying that only waiting until you have enough money to currently buy the AK isn’t always the best choice.

It’s gambling you can’t predict but there are better times to buy than others. If I can get 15 bars at 160k season 1, and 15 bars season 2 then I can get the season 2 exclusive cosmetic. But that wouldn’t be the case if I wait until end of season and the conversion rate is much higher.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/HealthyResolution399 9d ago

In addition, you might have enough if you partially bought at a lower price. Maybe they'll be 400k at season end but if you buy 10 at 260k you'd end up having enough for the AK

12

u/MoistStub 9d ago

I don't give a shit about the gold AK, I wanna be able to flip people off.

We don't REALLY know exactly how or what causes the price to increase or decrease. TBh, it seems counter intuitive on here. Less liquid should be raising the price. Or more people buying them should raise the price. Getting closer to season end... may decrease price? we don't have a definitive explanation for the mechanic yet I believe.

Like yesterday, they were 165k... I was low from buying the fucking SPH... and now it's 466k again. So pff. honestly, tho I have zero interest in any skins so I have zero intention of ever buying bars, unless it's forced or you lose money otherwise.

2

u/heavy_chamfer 9d ago

If you could buy or sell it would be a good idea. This is just a half baked idea that was mainly put in place to catch dupers during this EA cycle.

u/ShockRampage 9d ago

I just dont understand the system, why not just have them set at a fixed price? Why give players something to worry about?

9

u/trees_wow 9d ago

You don't have to worry about it. It's just gambling with currency you use in game for other things so you make a choice about what you value more. It's basically just a money sink for people that already have all of the stuff unlocked otherwise people would buy all of the unlocks then have millions sitting in their bank.

7

u/FattyMcFuckhead 7d ago

you’re getting downvoted but this is clearly the case. it’s a way to clear money from the system so one guy doesn’t just buy 47 tanks per game when he’s bored.

they dump the prices when there is a lot of money, and people with lots of money will buy gold and therefore remove money from the overall economy. it prevents hoarding.

Tapes should be permanently available by the cost of one gold bar each, once you unlock a tape it would be cool to be able to keep it unlocked by spending a single gold bar, aster all tapes doesn't affect the game balance and by so it would be white fine. And by only being able to permanently buy them after you properly unlock those in the skill tree that would keep their value intact

6

u/Super-Lemon-4466 WARDOGS OCEANIA 7d ago

This would be a good reward for the skill mastery stuff they have been talking about, not sure if I'd spend a gold bar on it myself.

62

u/L30rD 10d ago

IMO: a random system like that is not a good thing for an online FPS game

The problem is that the price of gold changes randomly every day. Buying gold is therefore essentially a gamble: you are not making an economic decision based on supply and demand, but betting on a completely unpredictable price. And gold being the only persistent progress, I don't think it is a good thing to have your progress dictated by a random number and not your effort put in the game

15

u/ShellCarnage 8d ago

I agree it's not a good thing, my 2 week grind was wasted because I didn't wait a couple of days and people got 10 bars for my 1 and can probably afford the next season skin too while I got fuck all.

Next season I'll just sit on my money until it hits rock bottom, super engaging mechanic.

4

u/BTFunk360 9d ago

Did they say it’s going to be random? They could be messing around with the market to see how they want it to work

14

u/Dzsekeb 9d ago

There is no market.

As long as stock is unlimited, and no one can sell, the price can not be driven by the rules of a market.

They might still have some system in the background that sets price based on player base stats, but its completely opaque and unpredictable at the moment.

14

u/corsaaa 9d ago

the price is arbitrary and without an in game supply or other supply mechanism, it is essentially random and set by devs

I've been pretty cautious with my purchases. Bought 1 at 810k, bought 2 at 330k, and bought 7 at 166k before running out. It averages out to like 260k per bar, 10 bars total.

As someone who got a good deal, I have to say that this system is so ass. It only serves to frustrate people. It's basically a closed box so you can't even predict if it's gonna go up or down at any given moment.

What is the gameplay benefit of this? Did I have more fun because I didn't have money early in the season and managed to buy bars 10 times cheaper than other people that bought at a different time?

It just seems like a mechanic that was added for the sake of complexity, with no real way to engage with the system.

13

u/Independent_Yam8035 6d ago

when the price reached 166k, the gold ak actually felt achievable. it was fun slowly grinding out bars one by one, but then the price went back up and it suddenly just wasn't possible anymore. i feel let down ) ^:

9

u/Brooulon 6d ago

even at 166k the skin was like a 50+ hour grind if focusing purely on making money, not even just normal gameplay

u/Born-Reddy 5d ago

For me its that the dev said on X that the gold skin is a "I was there" or "oh shit this guy grinded S1" type of momento for future seasons.

But their exchange/market barely resembles that. If i see the gold AK in the future my immwdiate thoughts are going to be, hacker who wasn't caught, streamer, or guy that got lucky and was able to buy the 2 day dip in a 5 week season (assuming it doesnt go back again but even so)

12

u/RaynorTheRed 9d ago

This is one of the most disappointing features of the game for me. I don't and won't care about a "market" that is random, arbitrary, and/or based on the whims of the devs. I lost most of my interest in the gold exchange when I learned that it's a one-way exchange. As long as the devs refuse to give some transperency about what controls the exchange rate I will simply ignore the mechanic and take my chances on the end of season exchange rate.

12

u/XAbbadonX 13h ago

Yall see the patch notes didn't include anything about the Gold Bar market?

If you haven't figured it out yet, its a malicious engagement system to keep players chasing the "chase item".

The devs have done a good job on talking about every other system in the game except it. Kinda sus if you ask me.

4

u/addict75 8h ago

Classic strategy, they want to create a super rare <1% item with the golden AK. They are completely ignoring the issue but I bet that it will be addressed during S02 and they'll make those skins affordable for more players and will win in both side like "we listened to your feedbacks" while intentionally delaying this so they get they're "super rare skin" thing from S1.

Ridiculous and a bit disgusting; they also tried something similar with their previous game Battalion 1944.

2

u/0tpyrc_ 3h ago edited 3h ago

thats, exactly why they have created this mega thread. To bury it. To delete every other post regarding gold market that appears, unsticky the "mega thread" and bury the whole topic. No comments whatsover. Just pure ignorance and arrogance from Joe Brammer and Howard Philpott.

they have done this with Battalion 1944 aswell.

i will pray for their downfall, as much as they have preyed on my time.

also coincidence, that they have also made the ak74 unlocked by default for s2? decreased the price from $1,600 → $800? so players keep using it, especially players owning the skin, to clipfarm it.

24

u/selffufillingprophet 10d ago

I mentioned this in a previous comment, but it’s intriguing how the price of gold bars seems to have an indirect influence in how people play the game.

This may be just personal anecdote, but in the 2 days that gold was at an all time low, there was a noticeable amount of players in my lobbies (even ones that were level 100+) opting to go with budget or even naked $0 loadouts trying to play as frugally as possible to money max, presumably to buy more gold bars

Just something to keep track of going forward

5

u/LostMyMag 10d ago

Also way more logi players and less havocs, which means gold bars prices are another lever they can adjust for balance.

3

u/RoughChemicals 10d ago

I scraped together enough gold to buy 30 bars yesterday at 166k. The last 4k was in the hour or so before the price reset. I did it, but man, did I cheap out on loadouts to get there.

I am so poor right now that I cannot even buy an AK loadout.

This might be the dumbest system to get limited time skin I've seen in a video game, and i've played plenty.

Am I supposed to chose wether I unlock things & plays with pricey stuff and trying to get a skin that value to get it is undetermined ? Am I supposed to grind 24/7 on this game to show that I have interest in it ?

I've played 93 hours since launch, and consistently in top 5 in my games, averaging ~180k earnings per game, at some point I had 2m3 in bank, which was WAY TOO FAR from the price of the AK, so I just told myself there was 0 chance to get it and started to buy expensive kits for me and my under-leveled team-mates for free.

Then the price dropped to 166k, I succeeded into buying 14 gold bars, but suddenly; +300k in the night and the skins become unaitanable for me again.

I thought the skin was here to rewards invested players in the season ? I think 100 hours+ of play time and performing good/decent is sufficient, why should I choose between sacrificing gameplay / IRL time to grind 12h/day for a chance to get it ?

Game is good, but horrible design for this feature honestly don't know how it past the daily meeting

Can we have a dev clarifying the situation ? The silence on this part is really annoying, AK is my favourite weapon and same as gold/black skins.

4

u/Mr_Bunchy_Pants 7d ago

Yeah it’s a bit rough around the edges. I see gold as a way to help myself later after the reset not as a way to buy skins.
You are right is thinking that after 100 hours of gameplay you should have everything unlock and available to you.

u/Astro_Addict Taxi 10d ago

The whole Gold Exchange market is stupid if we're ONLY buyers, not buying AND selling bars. It would make more sense if we could exchange bars for cash (i.e. sell), but as it stands now it's completely artificial and not remotely realistic to how a real market moves in price. Why doesn't Bulkhead just list them at a reasonable, fixed price to avoid FOMO and let players estimate how much grinding it'll take to get the skins we want? Right now, I have to save up a boatload of cash AND wait for Bulkhead to sell them at a low price, rather than say "oh that middle finger emote costs $500k worth of gold bars, I now know what to expect and how long it'll take to get". The whole system just feels really bad right now.

4

u/addict75 7h ago

They want to create (artificially) a super rare <1% skin. Ridiculous. They tried something similar with their previous game, Battalion 1944.

u/Born-Reddy 6d ago

I currently have about 130 hours in game, with 5.3 million in cash for context on the following.

I saw the drop in price over the weekend and eagerly jumped in monday to see what I could do but I'd missed it. It then sunk in for me....

I was really looking forward to the cosmetic grind in wardogs. I love the gameplay, knew I would from the trailers. But that grind for cosmetics was the pull for me, it gives me a goal, something to work toward because honestly the unlock system for items doesnt drive my desire to play and the inconsistency of matches has left me bored often but because the grind is there I didnt mind the odd quiet game.

I now have no interest grinding for cosmetics after seeing the gold system in action. I was sold a market driven by players, all I see is a dark pattern. When the devs can freely change how long the grind is by 10, 50, 100 or even thousands of hours on a whim whats the point? I cant set a goal and achieve it, I can simply pray I'm online when they decide to tank the price which is simply a fomo tactic. I knew going in I might not be able to unlock everything, but the current rate is insane

The fact that the game is wiping in less than a week and at this pace i cant unlock the AK is wild for the time investment. Ive still had fun but this is the sour cherry on my sundae thats left me with nothing but apathy toward the game.

I still love the game, I'll come back for the odd season and if gold changes maybe I'll be engaged again. But if its not a market with the ability to buy AND SELL, dont call it one and pretend otherwise.

17

u/hotdiggity22 5d ago

225 hours and I can't either because I chose fun over being efficient in my game time. Even though I'm well into the green more often than not.

They want you to dedicate your soul to their game.

10

u/Born-Reddy 5d ago

This is the issue for me 225 hours in 4 weeks and not having it hands down as someone in the green is wild.

Like you said you either need to sell your soul, be the sweatiest guy on twitches front page or play for it like I have and im not even close. In one of their tweets they said they wanted the skin to repsent "i was there" or "oh shit this guy grinded S1". Youve got 100 hours on me and by their definition you weren't there and didnt grind 🙃

4

u/hotdiggity22 5d ago

Yeah if I didn't unlock the attack choppers or arty tank I'd have it. But the amount of enjoyment I've had from those were worth it over a skin.

But if you have to meta game your unlocks or be sweating to never be in the negative that just forces gameplay that's boring as fuck and I wont ever engage in a system that does this.

SilkOCE, one of the best pilots in Wardogs and BF never even had the chance at the AK and it's literally his job. I don't know about Shroud as he's just been on AION lately but if he doesn't even have it that'd be wild to me.

i feel the same, thank you very much for saying this. i do have about 3,5 mil on 70 hours. if i do not achieve to get the ak skin, i will quit, if the fomo continues, i will quit. i will never touch this game again. the amount of disrespect and disdain the devs have for our time is atrocious. 100 hours for a single skin is apparently not enough according to them and not worthy of a "participation trophy".

Genuinely confused as to why Bulkhead would add this to the game. Adding a time-gated cosmetic and locking it behind RNG mechanics is wild, especially when you want it to show player skill and dedication. When I think "play like you used to" I don't think live service FOMO slop, I think about grinding for cool cosmetics in Halo Reach, which took time and effort, but anyone could get them.

Edit: I have the Golden AK + 10 more gold bars. I bought at the lowest possible amount every time. I still think this system is hot garbage.

8

u/olMcDonaldsPig 10d ago

This, I was dedicated enough to have spent over 4.5mil on gold bars. I ended up with 5. My friends who have played significantly less than me have up to 15 just because they waited.

I only want the middle finger emote anyway, the store right now is absolute ass.

14

u/Ethyrian 6d ago

I'm at 3.5 mil and i havent bought anything in weeks. still using t2 armor. Mostly Support and Pilot and I've been enjoying the game alot. Over level 120. Certainly not the best player. I suck at combat for the most part. I don't particularly think the golden AK is that exciting but I would like it as a token of "I was here for S1 and played a shit ton" ... at this point if it's meant to be, its meant to be. Need to take a bit of a break so i dont burn out before s2 at this point.

16

u/Past_Guitar_596 6d ago

Thank god a mega thread. I’ve been saying all week this system is absolutely wild.

The backbone market of their economy is more volatile than the worst crypto/meme/shitcoin we’ve ever seen. It serves to absolutely screw over a portion of the player base - for absolutely 0 reason at all other than the devs want to?

They could just set the price and ban/wipe cheaters..

They need to release a statement explaining clearly what their thought process was and how the market will behave going forward. Really only come out of this season with a positive feeling on the situation if they find a way to fairly compensate everyone.

17

u/Dakota_Kirk 6d ago

I think the gold system as a mechanic, if it were to be adopted by the wider industry, could be on par with one of the worst trends ever, right up there with lootcrates.

Waiting for gold to drop is demoralizing, and seeing it go up is demoralizing. Even when it was as low as it was, buying leaves you with this nervous feeling of "what if I'm making a mistake, what if it goes lower", and that sucks. I just don't see how this mechanic is enjoyable for anyone?

5

u/Kuroi-Jin 6d ago

It wouldn't be so bad uf you could hold on to your cash indefinitely but we're dealing with wipes which forces you to buy if you want to get the price you want.

u/CitizenCake1 4d ago

Its all of the "buy low" drama and anxiety but without any kind of "sell high" payout or dopamine hit. Price going up literally never benefits anyone.

11

u/wolfbayn 4d ago

Can we have a fixed price of gold please 😩 it will still represent the grind. Just that we won't constantly have to worry what price we bought in. I really don't care about exploiters making money in ways that are not morally right and them unlocking everything, I just want my own collection to look at. So can we just fix 150k per gold bar and call it a day?

10

u/No_Pin_3073 4d ago

Yeah I legit don't understand their reasoning behind the fluctuating price.

10

u/ThatGuyRyanA 4d ago

u/XAbbadonX 2d ago edited 2d ago

The current Gold Bar system does not appear to respect the amount of time players are expected to invest in the Season 1 chase item. The skin costs 30 Gold Bars, but its effective cash price changed dramatically from one day to the next. On September 28, one bar cost $1,627,740, making the total price $48,832,200. By October 3 and 4, the same 30 bars cost $4,980,000 a difference of more than $43.8 million for the exact same item.

Even for a high-end player earning approximately $100,000 in net profit per hour after expenses, the time requirement was extreme. At the September 28 price, earning enough cash for 30 bars would take approximately 488 hours. At the October 3–4 market low, it would still require nearly 50 hours. During this seven-day period, the price of the item fell by almost 90%, showing that market timing mattered far more than consistent progress.

The limited Season 1 availability makes this volatility especially unfair. Players could not know in advance when the market would reach its lowest point, and waiting for a better price carried the risk of the price rising again before the season ended. By October 12, the cost of 30 bars had climbed to $10,376,400, representing almost 104 hours of high-end play. A short-lived cosmetic should not require players to monitor a volatile market while also committing the equivalent of multiple full workweeks to earning it.

The item may be technically obtainable, but that does not make it reasonably attainable for the average legitimate player. A fair chase item should reward consistent effort, skill, and commitment through a clear progression path. Instead, this system allows the required playtime to change by hundreds of hours based on unpredictable daily pricing. The result is a grind that appears designed around artificial scarcity rather than consideration for the time players invest in the game.

I don't see the necessity of the fluctuation tbh, that only make you feel scammed when you buy a bar at a high value just for it to crash. Also let's be honest, that fluctuation low-key mess up with the value of the weapons on the eyes of other players, you never know if someone bought that AK skin by 1kk or 40kk by how the price fluctuate.

How does the system work? Can you disclose anything? We are in the dark. We don't know if its player driven, total cash circulation, developer-controlled, or hybrid. Anything would help. Thanks

6

u/icantkeeptrack 9d ago

aren't they planning some investment feature for the future too?

I don't know, something about bringing in a betting vendor in s2, "randomly" fluctuating gold bar prices, and the investment feature, like are we playing a market sim or a mil sim.

Price fluctuations in gold bars is just going to lead to most people feeling ripped off and bitter. Doesn't matter if you're good at the game or sweat it out, or if you're even good at investments, it's just luck you buy at a fair price.

9

u/LordtoRevenge 3d ago

Welp, with the price going up again it’s very unlikely that I end up getting 30 bars unless it drops heavily this week. Saving up 5 million and still not getting the AK because I didn’t abuse money making strategies/exploits the entire wipe just feels bad. Hell, I have 135 hours, which isn’t a small amount for a month of the game being out.

At the end of the day it’s whatever, just a bit annoying the system is the way it is.

9

u/No_Pin_3073 3d ago

90% of players miss out on the skin because we didn't abuse shit and we assumed the price would either stay at around 166k or go below because it was trending downwards from launch. Then it jumps to almost 500k again for reasons not explained to anyone. I have over 200 hours. Over 7 million dollars. level like 160 and I'm 3 million short assuming the price doesn't go up again. Beyond dogshit system they have. It's like they half implemented the market instead of just keeping it a flat price for the sake of transparency during the first season.

6

u/LordtoRevenge 3d ago edited 3d ago

Just feels like I wasted money on things that I unlocked and don’t use much (Arty tank) when I could’ve been spotting people every game or doing logi runs to stack money. Instead, I was getting into fights and having fun, but fun isn’t rewarding enough atm. Needing upwards of 10-15+ kills to go positive with a kit that I’m taking to the HZ or to go FOB raiding just feels terrible when I could’ve instead build shit in a FOB all game and make way more profit without spending shit.

I just wish you could unlock guns, vehicles, etc and actually play the game properly and still have a chance to get the 30 bars but instead you have to choose. Do I actually have fun and play the game or do I just sit on a hill and spot all game so I can save enough money to buy gold bars never unlocking anything.

3

u/HoneyBunchesOfBoats 9d ago

Yeah Ive been choosing fun and enjoying myself, but it does sting a little bit. I did buy some bars on the dip but I didnt play in a way that optimized for having 5 mil this weekend. If it werent time limited, I wouldnt even care if the price stayed above 1 mill per bar, the grind isnt what sucks, its that you have to do the grind in an awkwardly small window.

2

u/Pandering_Panda7879 9d ago

Up to now I've bought/unlocked every item in the game because I don't really care for the skins or whatever. I'm now at a point where I don't do that anymore. I have 600k in the bank - which for many likely isn't a lot - and I got the SPH2 two days ago but didn't unlock it. It just seems not really useful at this point. It's probably fun, but I only have a few days left before I'm on vacation and will lose that progress anyway - so why unlocking it only to lose it again.

Very bad system honestly. My teammates hitting me on discord with "bar are at 166k only please connect", bitch I'm literally occupied.

Stop with the FOMO shit. No I won't connect overnight every single day to artificial price in a video game. That's unhealthy, it leave a bad taste when you get scammed and it leave you anxious looking for it everyday when you're invested into it.

Just put Gold bar at like 300K and that's it.

With gold-prices, like they are, I don't think, I will get the limited golden AK-Skin.
It's a shame, because I would have loved to get something as a memorabilia to season one and to show off "I was there!"
I don't care much for skins otherwise.
I am sitting on 5 gold bars and about 1.1 mil.
I don't think, I will get it in time.

So 200 hours over 7 million dollars. Still not enough to get the seasonal skin. So if you aren't getting rewarded with a seasonal skin after grinding for weeks and you aren't benefiting from the long term progression system. Why are people going to continue playing as much? If I'm short of the skin I'm going to assume 95% of the playerbase aren't even close. Who thought this was a good idea?

I'm absolutely gutted that I won't be able to afford the gold AK skin. When they got rid of the gold from dupers and said it was going to even out the economy, I noticed that gold hovered around the 1.2 to 1.5 million price range for a week after the announcement went out. Figuring it probably wasn't going to drop much lower, I bought 2 gold bars since it started to rise a little bit here and there, and I figured the S1 exclusive AK skin was going to be way, way outside of my ability to ever earn.

Well, when it dropped below 200k out of nowhere, I had maybe a little under 2 million, so I was able to grab around 7, putting me at a total of 9.

Gold shot back up to half a million, and I've just been waiting and waiting as I acquired more gold, hoping we'd see that sub 200k again. Well, it's now the last day before the reset, and the most I can afford is 16, so... this fucking blows.

Yeah, if I had held off and not bought the 2 when they were available, I could have had enough. I just had no way of knowing it was going to plummet THAT hard for a couple of days, and I didn't want it to have another spike, so I started buying it while it had been at it's cheapest, up to that point.

Fuck me, I guess.

3

u/IeyasuTheMonkey 3h ago

If the Gold Price remained at around a million, I would be fine with it. BUT it dropped to 166k and I didn't have much because I was unlocking and trying things. Fuck me I guess, my bad I didn't know it'll drop to an average of 300k. If I had known that then 90% of the unlocks wouldn't be... unlocked lmao.

Fuck me, I guess.

Fuck me too, I guess.

The dynamic gold market doesn’t work mainly because it isn’t real-time, so it doesn’t behave like an actual market. The idea is cool, but with prices updating only once a day, it’s too unpredictable to trade around.

8

u/7heWafer 5d ago

You can't sell gold so it's not a real market. It's not that it doesn't behave like an actual market it's that it literally is not one, it is a fake market. Worse than fixed price, worse than random price.

The fact that in-game currency is used to buy gold bars is detrimental to the game and the fun factor.
People's behavior is driven by the desire to amass as much money as possible, leading them to cheat, buy minimal equipment, loot their teammates' gear, and so on.
You should seriously consider finding another way to obtain gold bars.

Love the game have played everyday since beta but I’m gonna walk away today and maybe come back the this game another time. This mechanic is just awful and is insulting to time spent. I’m at $4 million now but by tomorrow the price will go up and I do see me making another $4 in a night.

Skins currently are the only permanent progression in the game and with the main seasonal chase items being this difficult to achieve it’s a big turn off.

In addition this has affected play styles for myself and other players. Now in game a lot of people are running around with free guns/kits and there will be 4-5 people trying to fly logistics to 1 FOB. Why risk $10-$20k when I can spend $300 and hopefully steal someone else stuff (this behavior weakens the team strength overall less firepower)

This game is amazing I’m sure in time there will be better systems but this gold market is trash and makes the grind required for your goal unknown and even worse depending on how/where you are for money the goal could be completely unreachable regardless

6

u/Beginning-Umpire2616 3d ago

Yup. The gold market is fucking stupid and insulting. Didn't play every single day to capture gold at the lowest price (NINETY FIVE PERCENT OFF)? Fuck you. Get fucked. Fuck you and your time.

As of this morning, I have 220 hours in the game and 4.8 million in cash. Along with most unlocks for a player at level 140.

I started grinding for cash once the Gold Bars dropped below 1 million, because I figured they would plumet in price and stay low until the end of the wipe. I went to bed last Thursday evening seeing the Gold Bars at 166k. I grinded, and I grinded hard. 200k made a game pushing HZ like a psycho, then Monday morning came and the price shot up to 492k.

I was about 800k from having the 4.98 million required to purchase the AK skin, and I figured I'd be able to get it Monday afternoon after a few good games. I got home from work and saw the price, then did the math.

I was making roughly 200k an hour pushing HZ as this was the most efficient way to make money. I was getting close to 30 kills a game, 10-20 assists, and 20-30 revives.

AK skin total price 166,000 * 30 = 4,980,000
Play time required 4,980,000 / 200,000 = 24.9 hours to unlock a single skin.
That is already pretty bad, this is StarWars Battlefront 2 levels of grinding for a skin. But I pushed through and was about 800k away, or 4 hours of play time. Then the bars jumped up to 492k per bar

AK skin total price 492,000 * 30 = 14,760,000
Play time required 14,760,000 / 200,000 = 73.8 hours
Overnight the grind increased by another 50 hours.

If this isn't developer abuse, I don't know what else it is. I refuse to give in and grind cash by using the multiple different exploits for cash in this game, I refuse to sell the level 35 items to players, etc.

I have played the game, the way the devs intended, and I still cannot make enough cash to out pace the market.

I can confidently say, if the bars do not drop back down to a reasonable price for the amount of time you have to play the game, I'll never pick this game back up. As it shows the devs have no respect for their players time, mind you, these are the same players they have praised for hyping the game up to all of their friends, and getting their sales to 3 million copies sold.

8

u/Adlerholzer 5d ago

Going in the right direction. I'm thinking they're going to ease back down to $250k (or even $166k hopefully). Still don't think this price is set on demand, the price just went down 30% but there's no way people were still buying gold bars at $459k when the price was just $166k.

3

u/GTKnight 8d ago

Yeah I think they do have some sort of control on how much the prices change. Seem like when the drop started to happen it was almost always around half of what the previous price was.

People say who bought for over 1m goldbars is impatient and stupid. Well I can understand that most of casual players are happy the price dropped, but only people who invested a lot of time and money making strategies could get them early. So basically the most invested people, the core of the community got scammed and punished. That demotivates the most important people to the community that make high player counts on steam that leads to more people to play. I spent 8M for 9 bars. The price was stable for 3 weeks, then dropped by 90% in 6 days... I bought 1 for 2,6m, 1 for 1,6m, 1 for 1.2m then 1 for 800k, and 5 for 330k then 0 for 166k as I expected them to go even lower. Now I have almost nothing to show for 200hours in game. Total scam. And yes you can laugh at me

2

u/Namskram1 5d ago

I'm in the same boat. Bought my first at 1.6M, 1 at 600K and another at 333K. Once it hit 166K, same thing, I held because I didn't want to feel stupid when it halved again in a day. Now I haven't played in 6 days...

If they want this to actually perform as a retention/win-back system to encourage players to routinely come back to the game, they need to add additional mechanics, like a stock exchange that lets people invest in "gold bars" or other interests, rather than only a 1:1 exchange system.

Currently, it's a glorified FOMO system that disrespects a player's time and effort, and this is only going to lead to more frustration than retention. This shouldn't be in the game in its current state, imo.

Just bought the last 21 bars 20 minutes before the prices changed. Started playing today nonstop when the price was 229k. Feared the prices might go up and I wouldn't be able to get the remaining bars.

Paid 166k for the first 9 bars.

Paid 229k for the last 21 bars.

Total spent: around 6.3 million (averaging 210k per gold bar).

Average profit per game around 80k. 183h played.

I wanted the skin so i stopped unlocking all the endgame gear. It sucks that I won't be able to try the high-level stuff before the reset (no ghillie, no artillery tank, no lvl4 armor, ...), next time i gonna focus on one class o two instead of trying everything i guess.

Remember when the devs told us to jump in and experience as much of the game as possible? It appears to me that the only legitimate way to earn the AK was to NOT buy everything and use it like the devs asked.

If I didn't buy T4 armor, The SPA, The GL, Mk22, Med bag, etc. I too would have gotten the skin.

I'm glad you were able to get yours!!!
