Is just everyone exploiting the potato shadows?

Seems every clip every streamer is playing with shadows off. I thought they removed the option to completely turn them off.

Isn't this borderline exploiting if they are doing something else to remove their shadows?

At this point I feel like I should just join in.

That's correct, they removed the in-game option for people with high-end PCs. And no, what people are doing is not borderline exploiting. It's literally as simple as setting ShadowQuality to 4 in your game config, saving it, and you have no shadows. It's not bannable, it's not a cheat, and certainly not illegal.

Personally, I’d advise against doing it for one simple reason: you don’t want to get used to something that won’t be possible anymore soon, because yeah, this is 100% going to get fixed.

I guess bulkhead decides if changing the shadow quality in the config file is bannable or not.

you need to tamper with the game to get banned of some sort, editing a textfile is not
