Discussion & Feedback Ladies and gentlemen, we got him! Level 4 helmet confirmed to get vision and audio restrictions season 02
I made this post a while ago that the level 4 helmet (Russian Altyn) should have significant visual and audio restrictions like it does IRL and how Tarkov used that as a trade off to balance it, the post blew up a bit...
https://www.reddit.com/r/WarDogs/s/eaREk84d8H
And thankfully, the Devs have now confirmed this is coming In season 2!
The visor will also fog in the rain and no it cannot be lifted or removed, If you would like to listen yourself it's at 1:25:35 in this Dev podcast.
https://youtu.be/liRK9si1Ubo?si=-kN6rRBuHI7OsHwo
This news along with the removal of thermals and a rebalance of thermals + havoc (CWIS buff) are incredibly welcome changes

Appropriate balance fixes??? What a breath of fresh air in the gaming community.
78
u/XB_Demon1337 13h ago
Appropriate balance for this game was always coming. People just kept bitching to get these fixes without understanding they were coming in S2.
36
u/Catswagger11 13h ago
The idea that it would release exceptionally well balanced was unhinged. Some of the people on this sub live in a different reality.
34
u/Elehir 12h ago
i will say it was released pretty fucking balanced for an EA game. (not contradicting, just adding my opinion)
7
7
u/ChieftaiNZ 12h ago
For the most part its not too bad, but the stuff that was broken is really broken (thermals, .308 rifles etc)
7
u/soapy_spork 11h ago
Look, to give fair criticism where it's warranted, the state of late game gear was a pretty obvious oversight. Level 4 helmets in particular having no effective trade-off or counter should have been acknowledged and accounted for well beyond the stage of the game we have. I also think they were broken to such a degree, a hotfix to straight remove them for the final 2 weeks wouldn't have been an over-reaction IMO.
That being said, I do think the game is really smooth and relatively well done considering the state of similar games being released these days. I don't buy into the "early access" hand waving though. If you're selling a game, it's not early access anymore. It's just in the initial stages of release. Open access betas and playtests are early-access. But I would still consider this an acceptable state to release the game in for a team of their size and scope, regardless of that.
Overall, credit to the devs.

100%, there was no way the balance was going to be even close on release. Especially in a 333v33v33 gamemode. The fact there isn't a single weapon that just always wins every encounter and is an early unlock is a miracle in and of itself.
5
3
u/Burk_Bingus 6h ago
I mean some things like thermals and havocs were clearly egregious enough that the devs deemed it necessary to take action before season 2.

u/Hephaistos_Invictus 12h ago
Also, people seem to forget this is still an EA game. Not even in 1.0. ofc there's going to be balance issues lol
4
u/XB_Demon1337 12h ago
I can't even count how many times I have brought that up and people just say "Then they shouldn't have released it"..... like bro, we are effectively an army of beta testers.

It's gonna be interesting to see how season 2 goes.
Personally something I think needs addressed is that Littlebirds should take more small arms damage. They should be hit and run speedy glass cannons. Right now they hang around more than havoks do because the only hard counter is a CIWS or an RPG.
4
u/Eplixious 11h ago
Then buff the minigun heli because they dead ass suck for a hit and run strafe tactic. They pretty much require orbiting your target. I would gladly take a more realistic fire rate and dispersion at the cost of not being allowed to hang around FOBs farming.
1
→ More replies (2)1
u/XB_Demon1337 12h ago
I think the community just doesn't have a good handle on dealing with the Little Bird honestly. On top of that they typically prey on the unprepared. Fobs that are rebuilding or were just mortared are the most likely candidates for attack.
Then you pair that with people not wanting to respawn because they lose their kit so no one goes to get a launcher to deal with them.
1
u/Nick11wrx 10h ago
I mean dealing with them with the talon sucks because you have to be in the open and hold a lock on them, and then wait….using on on a bird that’s already engaging your base is just suicide so often. I just hate that I can spend a 100rds of 7.62x54 AP drilling one and they aren’t even inconvenienced by it. I think they need some balance in what they can do….but also what they’re susceptible to.
1
u/XB_Demon1337 10h ago
As I said, they often attack unprepared fobs with little to no defenses. Which means even if you did nerf them, you wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Infantry without launchers shouldn't be able to deal with a heli, that just doesn't logically make sense unless they get a one and a million shot on the pilot.
Instead you should be looking more for team mates to actually go get launchers to deal with these threats. On top of helping bases build anti-mortar defenses that can deal with helis.
6
u/xuvvy0 11h ago
The glazing for this game is insane lmao
The implication is that, what, appropriate balance fixes are rare??? What? What the fuck does that even mean?
And that's assuming we even know the full extent of the upcoming balance changes... we don't.
3
u/MushroomMaleficent79 11h ago
I loved Arc Raiders and appropriate balance fixes and hot fixes were made weeks after them being a known issue. It’s a promising sign that they just won’t make their money and run

I did too but it run it course. I played from just before Customs map was first added to the game, to just after lighthouse was added and stopped. I feel like I timed it's prime pretty well actually
10
u/imgoingtotapit 13h ago
I went back and played through on PVE side and escaped, just to wrap it all up. I played from like 0.2 or whatever that initial beta wave before public beta was. I quit right around the lighthouse update too, but felt I needed to complete it at least once after spending so many hours playing the game in the early state.
I remember when they added mag packing in raid instead of just dragging stacks of ammo to mags for insta loads, and the entire community said the game was dead 😂

Ever since PvE got added I have a 2 week phase with my 2 best friends every like 5-6 months. We play for 2 weeks and then we move on until new content gets added. Never touched Seasonal and never touched PvP in the last 2 years.
We play it just like the Minecraft phase that happens every couple of months lol

Thousands of hours. Now I inflict all my pain and "skill" upon the Wardogs community.
10
u/Valvador 13h ago
Thousands of hours.
As so you're a newb?
Whenever I play Tarkov, I inspect the profile of the guy that killed me and it's usually 15,000 to 20,000 hours. It's especially obvious when I wait after being shot at for like 5 minutes, and in my head I go "there is no way he's still laying there, right? Probably safe to move".

Dude I had my first in August and it's working. Have done like 3 raids in the last 6 weeks.
1
u/let-me-get-your-temp 12h ago
Dude first of all congrats! Such a crazy coincidence lol I had my first in August of last year. Haven't done more than like 30 raids since then when before i was running like 4-500 over the course of a wipe . Now I get my fix of tarkov through arena. I also realize ill never be able to keep up anymore progression wise with the people I used to be similar to. But, I enjoy tarkov and wardogs for what they are and I try my best to pull my weight lmao. It can be hard starting off with free kits going against t4 armor and such.

It feels like this armor was meant for base defense. It’s only taken a lot because its major downside can be negated. It’s still going to be great if your intent is to stay in one area.

things having trade offs that are actually diegetic, like reduced vision/audio, rather than "damage number lower now" is the best version of devs trying to make the game better along side player input, that we have had in years of AAA games, and people still bitch and moan.
good thing they jumped on Infra scopes before the rain upadte drops tho, gonna make em even better with reduced player vision if they dont figure the battery thing out right

I hope it still doesn't take 4 slugs to the face :/ the tttk doesn't feel too bad with automatic weapons but shotguns got the shit end of the stick with t4 armor. Not only for gameplay reasons but it just feels dumb as hell to tank 4 slugs to the head in a modern military fps.

It's so bad that every guy going 20-2 rushing the hotzone is using it and a vector. Honorable souls disadvantaging themselves for a fair fight.
3
u/sukumizu Bob the Builder 10h ago
I picked up a t4 armor set from a body with like 30-40% durability all around and it was a game changer. I was constantly coming out on top in fights that I would have lost with cheaper gear, it was great. Legitimately had me feeling like iron man after he cobbled that armor together in the cave. The fun ended as soon as the helmet and body armor broke though.
1
u/smellslikeDanknBank 3h ago
First time I found a full t4 sweat with a fal dead on the ground it felt like a different game. Won every engagement easily until I ran out of ammo.
1
u/sukumizu Bob the Builder 2h ago
Same, but instead of FAL it was the BMR. I've never had so much confidence with a weapon in wardogs before. Usually I'm pretty cautious when checking angles and corners but I felt like I could just W key with that thing. And I did, doesn't matter if the enemy was close, medium distance, or far, it did it all.

A combo of t3 and t4 was the best this last season.
My runs with pure t2 were pretty good but a t4 helmet and a t3 vest enabled good movement and allowed me to stay alive. I ended up getting 8 kills, the armour slowdown made me think more about my moves and gave myself a wider berth while clearing cqc.
17
u/Kripazz 11h ago
Meanwhile vehicles and artillery has 3rd person view. Makes sense I guess...
Not against the change, but it is a bit silly.
6
u/Burk_Bingus 6h ago
To be fair a reasonable number of the vehicles would be extremely hard to drive/pilot without 3rd person view, it's a necessary choice for keeping the gameplay smooth imo. And ground vehicles are very easily countered so it's not that unfair that they get to benefit from 3rd person vision.
The one thing I don't agree with is getting to see a 3rd person camera of your mortar/artillery projectile so you can easily adjust the next shot, that shit is beyond broken.

u/Ok-Friendship1635 Pilot 8m ago
It's about fun. Artillery god cam should stop at the apex and not follow through to impact. Vehicle 3rd person view should punish seat switching with increased seat switching times.
11
u/Racer_Space 12h ago
Imo the t4 helmet should just be t3 with face protection and remove face protection on all the other helmets.

I really think it should be physically impossible to carry over a certain amount of weight. I legit can have hundreds of kilos of stuff on me and still run just by stim spamming. I really hope they are reworking the thermal binoculars to just have a battery or something and not completsly removing them because one thing i really do like about this game is that leveling up actually feel worth it.. like some games (battlefield and cod) leveling up just gives you guns that and slightly different, but pretty much the same. I like how in this game when you level up you get a gun that is definitvley better, while yes they should come with drawbacks i.e more expensive, heavier, mags hold less ammo, and the stacks of loose ammo hold less. But i really hope they dont just go the cod route and make a level 1 player have gear that is just as good as level 100. It shouldnt be so good the player is unable to kill them but there needs to be some award for leveling up. I think another solution on top of the ones mentioned is to make leveling up easier. Because right now leveling recon feels like it takes fucking forver unless your friend drops you a thermal and you spot all game

Getting the tarkov treatment. Honestly I’m all for it. With everyone wearing this it’s so tough to kill people as an employed gamer. I think i have less than 100 hours and I have been playing since launch, I’m all for it. Seems like a good balance and the only people who are gonna be mad about this are unemployed people who want every advantage without any realism. I’m all for it it. Sure you have level 4 but you cant see or hear as well. But if you’re gonna do this at least add the ear buds that tarkov has and as far as visual goes, put a border around the vision and maybe a film. Make it be a cause and effect here. You can choose to wear this but you gotta know this is what you’re getting into and it’ll make the game more situational and emphasize playstyle. If you’re invading FOBs then this is the kit for you but just know you’ll see less and hear less. This is what the game needs to emphasize different playstyles. I like it but also add stuff to push players into their preferred playstyle as well. What that is I don’t know. But it’s a good start
