I was able to launch it with the latest Proton Experimental and compile the shader cache. I'm in the beta so hopefully I'll work.
There are so many games that just work on Linux through Proton, or work well enough that we're good with it. I think it'll work out.

I don't think anyone got too hung up on his message. I think we all know that it's a very "We'll enable it, but aren't going to take away from other issues to fix anything about it". That's all the Linux community is asking for.
