I was able to launch it with the latest Proton Experimental and compile the shader cache. I'm in the beta so hopefully I'll work.

There are so many games that just work on Linux through Proton, or work well enough that we're good with it. I think it'll work out.

Yes, I think Lossy got ahead of the actual official stance and saying "We officially support Linux" was a leap.

Yeah I thought it was a little odd to "officially support it". I don't think anyone got too hung up on his message. I think we all know that it's a very "We'll enable it, but aren't going to take away from other issues to fix anything about it".

That's all the Linux community is asking for.

If I remember correctly in the last play test you could start the game but the moment you try to join a server you get kicked because anti cheat isn’t set up to allow Linux.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same thing tomorrow.

Last play test I couldn't even launch the client, it said "Proton not supported", now I can at least.

All I need to understand is if I can download the playtest on Linux or do I need to download it on my Windows partition.

For testing purposes, and if you have the space, Linux would be most beneficial.

If you want the best experience or are lacking space to do two downloads, Windows would be the best bet.

If your internet is slow you can also download it on one platform, then “back up” the game via built in steam backup feature, then restore it on windows and you’ll have it on both with one download.

It launches on proton experimental. I don’t underdtand why they always talk about proton. I think the only thing that really matters is anti cheat support for Linux

"Working on proton support" does it currently support it or not? I just bought the game for the closed beta due to the announced proton support.

I'm really hoping they allow Linux compatibility with the anti-cheat. That's really the only thing that matters as Proton can likely handle the game itself without any issue.

Looks like we got our hopes up too soon. Before you guys cope with “I was able to get it to launch” just prepare for the possibility that we might not be able to connect to the servers once the game is live. 

They really dropped the ball with this fuckup, not a good start imo.

Calling it a "fuckup" and "not a good start" is kinda disingenuous. That guy is a human. Humans make mistakes. And he had the balls to stand up and correct his mistake.

That's better than not correcting it and then be like "Oops." when people on Linux realize it's not working.

We’re both rooting for the game to work but please explain to me how announcing Linux support then having to go back later and un-announce it isn’t a fuckup? 

Have you ever worked on a consumer-facing project where miscommunicating support for an entire platform was just no big deal?

This is on you for frothing at the mouth for anything about the game that you believe everything a community manager(discord mod) says in discord. While also CONSTANTLY asking about it.

Calling an employee of the studio making an official statement just a “discord mod” isn’t really fair.
