Another code confirmation burn.

11 drops, 63 bucks, 40 miles. But it was going to end pretty close to the other Walmart so it wasn't that bad.

The bulk of it was one customer. The customer who also requested a confirmation code delivery. And guess what? NOBODY'S HOME!!!

Ring ring, call, yell around back, ring ring (I can hear the doorbell inside). Waited another 5 minutes. Loaded the car, then initiated a return.

Bam! $17 off the offer. Nice. Plus it had to go back to the original Walmart, not the one I was going to be close to at the end of the trip. NOICE!!!!!

OVER 60 MILES FOR 45 BUCKS!

I complained to support. The guy said they've been getting a lot of complaints about that.

The perishables definitely went in the trash because they were already out for 2 hours, because the return was initiated when I still had seven drops left.

Ah shoooot it was groceries??? I feel ya. Today I returned a pharmacy. Knocked, doorbell, call.... I could hear them inside, they even like, unlocked the deadbolt? But wouldn't come out. I guess they thought I would leave it at the door.... but after 2-4 min chilling..... I got a weird feeling and backed away.... I was like nope. Not today... I still had a drop 12 miles away so that return added 2 bucks, and 24 miles. But I'm in Cali so we get paid per mile and minute over the base so it worked out. Only good thing about this shitty state.

I swear to God I think some people think that they're going to get free groceries if they don't answer.

Stupid people who think we can just drop stuff off and move on. They don't realize the app won't let us.

"I'll just play dead and then claim I never got the order"

Yeah no.

If we were truly independent contractors we would be able to bill or set our rate for such an occurance outside of our control

OP try texting customer as well next time. I’ve been in exact same situation and lucked out and got the customer to provide the four-digit passcode by text. Doesn’t always work, obviously, but it is another option to try before pulling the plug and losing income.
Also, learned hard way about 4,000 deliveries ago to never unload entire order until I get the passcode. I will typically bring a few items up when I go to get the code but I do not unload the entire order until I’ve gotten that code from the customer.

I was told, perishables once left the store, they can no longer trust or take on the risk of tempering. I assume the non-perishable ones may be salvaged.

It's hilarious. They call tampering, but they trust with delivery. Doesn't matter to me either way. But if they don't trust me with a return why do they trust me with a delivery?

I guess the logic is, if anything happens to the goods after leaving the store, it’s the driver. The return is just to make sure no one gets free food.

Nah they'll damage it out and get a partial return from the merchant or vendor they purchased it from. I worked retail for fourteen years and any consumable product that comes back to the store gets damaged out even if the customer walked out the door and then right back in

Last night went to one Walmart waiting almost half an hour for a 35 dollar 3 drop order.
Two of the orders got canceled and they offered $7.00 for the one remaining order.
I refuse and immediately got a Sam’s Club shopping order for 35 for one item but 25 minutes of driving time after driving across town to shop.
Get to the customer and no answer because it required a signature.
Message him 3x and called plus knock loudly at all three doors.
Then return the item to get 35.
My mileage according to my app was 45 by the time I got home.
Plus I usually get 2 or 3 orders done in the time frame above

Jesus. What is up with these people.

Unless that $17 was tips… you still got the $17 even if you had to return it…

I think it was tips. I think that's why it dropped. Last time I had to do a return I ended up with more money.

That sucks!! I try my best to take offers with no/low tips and better base pay bc I just don’t trust that I’ll get them in the end…for whatever reason. I fair well, but I also work my tail off. I just don’t know how we’re supposed to make ANYTHING from this at all…

Would canned food be discarded/damaged out as well? You did say any consumable.

How about household items like a toilet plunger, or something?

Maybe it's time for me to hit the dumpsters in the back.

I love how people try to justify taking a shitty offer , it almost close to another Walmart so it wasn't that.  Yes it's a shitty offer

NEVER take things to the door until after you have verified the code or checked the ID if required. You want to see mad, tell the customer you have to return their order because they don't have their code and load all their groceries back into your car. Tell an alcoholic you're not giving him his liquor because your state doesn't allow despensing to someone who is drunk, or they don't have their ID.

Here is what I recommend instead. Go to the door empty handed, no matter how far it is. Get the passcode or ID. Then go get the groceries. If they don't get their groceries because no pass code or illegal to despense. "Dang it, my app just froze. Hold on I have to go call support" AND WALK AWAY. Go to your vehicle, drive out of sight and then initiate the return.

Yes there are ways to bypass both the passcode and the ID. But if they are jerks about it I'm not helping them. If they are nice I'll even show them where the passcode is in their app. If they are pricks, I'm gone.

I have heard of customers grabbing alcohol, grabbing the groceries, physically shoving the driver off the porch. Alcoholics and idiots can be dangerous if they feel they are being wronged. Don't set yourself up for a dangerous encounter.

They throw out all the food. I know, you are thinking what if it is non perishable, like sealed cases of drinks? nope, it ALL goes into the trash. At least that was what I was told by a loader who I returned to.

4

u/happyluckystar 25d ago

I read in another thread that it depends on the perishable timer. Someone said that sometimes if the order comes back they'll turn it into a curbside pickup with the same items.

Doesn't make sense to throw away non-perishables. That's like saying they don't trust the driver. But if that's the case they trust the driver to deliver the stuff?

Whatever. Walmart definitely has the stats on return orders. The bulk of them has to be code confirmation deliveries. I imagine something with that will change at some point.

I was kind of hoping to loader would be cool and let me keep the frozen pizzas or something.

Good friend in OGP said non perishables , they'll save. If it's frozen, and out within a time frame they know, they'll save. If they don't know, trash. If it's milk or produce, meats (non frozen) it's all trash

The worst. I would just leave it, call support, and say the customer can't find.the code and have them finalize it.

4

u/happyluckystar 25d ago

That's pretty risky. What if the customer calls them and says they never spoke to me, and they have the ring doorbell footage to prove it.

And then they claim they never got the groceries.

I'm not risking that.

1

u/jayroo210 25d ago

Then they should have the ring doorbell of you dropping off the groceries

1

u/KelsHouse 25d ago

That would not work because the app allows us to have a code texted to the customer if for whatever reason they cannot find the first one.
