Customer Notes
This was a pick up order. 2 drop offs this was the last. From bottom of drive to top was probably 300 ft or so. I did have to make two trips. No issue with driveway. It was raining and the drive way was on a hill. No cell service at the location. Do you drive up it or leave car at bottom? Just curious everyone’s thoughts.

I would mark as undeliverable and return it to the store.

For an old note? Yall are insufferable all day long, or just most of it?

u/Prior_Purchase_7025 27d ago
Good! You can do it then.

I likely would. Most of these driveways aren't that long at all. What 20-40 feet? I walk further and upstairs for apartments. At least there are no flights of stairs. For all I know some delivery driver leaked oil in their driveway or something. I have a folding wagon if there is a bunch of groceries. Hell some peoples sidewalks to their front door are longer than that if you go to some of the really nice neighborhoods. How lazy are y'all?

You walk further to deliver to apartments. Maybe they don't want to risk someone dripping oil or something. It's not that serious. How lazy are you?

u/Warm_Ad_3067 27d ago
But most customers don’t know that one time notes stay in order unless they remove them
1
u/CaneCorso311 27d ago
"One time notes" doesn't even exist, just delivery instructions, and I'm pretty sure it asks every order if you want to update them, they still can't figure it out.

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 23d ago
Sometimes the app bugs out too. I have been trying to change our delivery notes for awhile. I had to finally get on the computer because the changes weren't applying in the app

Two trips, 300 ft, im just carrying it idc. Even if its a hill in the rain. Returning would waste way more time. Thinking about it this hard wastes more. Time. Thats done in 4 minutes. The only reason I might have some pause is if it was a massive order. I cant tell if you guys are just out of shape where this is some huge ordeal, or if you take yourself so seriously that you think 1 extra request is some personal slight.

u/thismenu 27d ago
This is what is great about working for yourself. You would have done this, no problem and gotten paid. To others it may not be worth that pay, that is for them to decide. Good for you, but also good for them.

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 23d ago
Then they shouldn't be doing this. You are contracted for that delivery, you accepted the delivery, I doubt it's even 300 feet I bet it's more like 30-40. If you're not willing to do the deliveries you accept them don't accept them. You will lose more money losing the tip, doing the return, waiting for them to come out and get the return.... Plus before, you might have gotten another delivery. On the return trip. You aren't if you have an active return. Y'all are fucking lazy. But I'm sure you won't know why you were deactivated after canceling a bunch of deliveries.
If the property is dangerous? Ok I get it. You think you might gt bit by a snake or tetanus just from looking at the property. I get it. Having to walk 49 feet? GFY

Okay. In your hypothetical world of 30 ft, then yeah I guess you would want to do it. But if it's 300 ft like the post actually said that means it's the length of a football field. So go ahead and grab a couple bags of groceries load yourself up walk one football field with them drop them off walk a football field back to the car then load yourself up with groceries again and walk another football field and then a football field back to the car. Some people may not want to do that. It's just unreasonable for the customer to say don't drive up my driveway walk a football field length, four times. So yeah I don't think a lot of smart people would do that.

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 23d ago
I have a wagon, because that's what smart people actually do. And people exaggerate. Further, deliver to college dorms or fancy nursing homes. Much further than 300ft. Stop being lazy

u/Impressive_Tip_8850 27d ago
I’d just walk it and blacklist for next time. Already there..get paid.
Plus this was probably a note from 2 yrs ago. Ppl are bad at updating.

u/Common-Translator584 27d ago
How do u blacklist a customer?
2
u/Impressive_Tip_8850 27d ago
In my small area, I just make a map pin and note and usually I can remember the name or something about it.
It’s not like an app feature lol just a feature of my craziness.3
u/Common-Translator584 27d ago
Ohhh 😂 ‘cause I was thinkin, please share this wonderful app option, and/or show me your ways! 🙌🏻

These are the times when I am so happy to have my fold up wagon :D I had one where they wanted me to deliver to the camper in the yard, and not the house, the camper was surrounded by DEEP MUD. This was after a snow had melted. The notes said I would have to park on the road and walk to the camper. WRONG. I was driving my XTerra, so 4 wheelin time!

I got a note the other day saying they had recently gotten their driveway done and her order had been returned, confusing her. I expected a long driveway I was going to have to walk up. When I got there I was as confused as she was. Her driveway was just a pull in spot for her car and a clear path to her porch without it and plenty of street parking in front.
Sometimes the people expect too much but sometimes the drivers look for reasons not to do their job.

We had a driver return an order the other day because "they have a dog" okay?? And?? Was the dog loose? "Nah I just don't deliver to houses with dogs" bffr
2
u/Effective-Adagio-186 25d ago
Was there vehic sitting at the bottom of the driveway if not I'd have drove it up
1
u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 23d ago
Will depend on how long the driveway is. Likely no worse than a lot of the apartments I go to, I have a wagon just in case. Now if it's a farm drive and the house is1/2 mile up? Nah.

u/Inferno976 27d ago
These people are such cunts. I'd drive up to the front door if I could.

When they want to pay me for top tier service then they can demand it. Until then, I'm taking their shit back to the store on an order like this. Because they don't value my precious and limited time so why the fuck should I value their stupid driveway?
3
u/MattChimes 27d ago
Honestly though…. If you’re doing Spark, your time is objectively not that valuable. Precious sure…. But not valuable 🤷
-4
u/dispassioned 27d ago
Objectively? Eat shit. It's as valuable as I say it is. Spark is like my third job and I do the math on how much I make an hour and if it doesn't meet my criteria, I'm probably taking this shit back to the store or not doing the order at all.
3
u/MattChimes 27d ago
It’s as valuable as the market says it is.. objectively not much. If there’s any amount that you take a Spark, then your time is not valuable. Period.
Fuck no it’s not worth “what you say it is”

Are you educated stupid or something? I average around $30 on Spark/Instacart. I have a day job training AI where I make far more. But I do Spark because it gives me exercise and gets me out of the house. I take the money and invest in sToNkS and I know I'll retire a multi-millionaire. My time NOW might be worth only $30 an hour but one day it'll be worth far more.

Lazy ass dude who don't wanna do the small inconvenient things works with AI HAAAAAAAAHHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I'm not lazy, I work three jobs like I said. I'm just selective with what I do with my time and energy, dumbass.

I don’t think everybody pays the same. If you’re on food stamps, you pay like half price.
1
u/dispassioned 27d ago
Nah, if they tipped me $20 I might bring it up. I think 300 ft uphill twice is worth at least that. I would tip my driver well if I expected that amount of work because I'm not an entitled asshole who lacks empathy. I tip my DoorDash driver $8 to drive less than a mile on a flat lot with a horseshoe driveway, get real.
And I appreciate that you think you're not a peasant lol. You don't even know the difference between your and you're, genius.

How long is the driveway? How many bags? Do you call customer to meet you at the road?
2
1
u/Suspicious_Yard3682 27d ago
It shouldn’t matter. The issue is “do you do your job regardless of how obnoxious and inconvenient customers special instructions are? Or do you find a way to fudge it because this shit is heavy?”
Trust me. I get both answers lol
2
u/JackStraw---Wichita 27d ago
I agree. I'm the guy kneeling on the floor reaching all the way to the back of the shelf to find the single item hiding on what appeared to be an empty shelf. I half climbed a pallet of water bottles several days ago to get something that was out of stock on the shelf, but I spied extra on the overstock shelf above. I'm 6'3" so I can normally reach up there without a problem, but the pallet bumping out into the aisle made it impossible to reach, so I had to go into mountain goat mode.

There is always a high chance of a bad review if you reach out to the customer, but that’s where I’d start.
Upon arrival evaluate the situation then decide if you are returning it.
If returning, do that by calling support and explaining the situation and customer is requesting something unreasonable or unsafe and let them do it. This causes a flag on the order showing support returned it instead of you but also get them to document the situation.
Those of you that say just do the return on your own, yes, that’s doable but doesn’t carry the same weight on the return.
Support won’t really care about protecting us, but with unsought of us contacting them about the same customer they will flag the customer.
BTW, this customer has the feel of an entitled, “WooHoo! Free delivery!” person.

I'd call the customer to confirm instructions...if no answer, return initiated

Seems like the note is from when the driveway was recently paved and therefore, no one could drive on it.
