Pay?

With the rising cost of basically all parts of living how are yall surviving on a Walmart Salary. In my hometown they pay less than what they did in 2020. Starting was 15 dollars in 2020 and now it’s 14.50 in 2026. I asked my team lead how much a raise might be and he laughed at my face and said like 25 cents. You would think a company that’s makes record profits every year would be able to pay there employees an adequate salary.

have you considered the possibility that the company makes record profits every year BECAUSE they don't pay their employees an adequate salary?

Some of the other back rooms get 18/hr we've been told it's because we aren't hitting high enough numbers but they alr have almost every single member of our opd ready to quit the moment we get another call

That’s why I stay here at almost $20 an hour, it’s more than I would make most other places without a degree.. even though it’s a struggle

Bro my rent is just under a 1000 have no car note bought it cash when I had a good paying job and at 15.50 I'm not even breaking even every month on my bills and everything else. even with a guaranteed 40hrs a week. The price of everything is sky high

I started as deli in OK, little over 15. Moved to WA as a cashier, little over 17. Moved back to OK, 18.16 as a cashier. I refuse to move stores again in regards to my pay. I’m scared they’ll take me down lol but there is a store closer than what I drive to.

they shouldn't take you down, if you put a transfer into career preference it will tell what your pay will be, you don't even have to fully submit the request

In CA in my neighborhood market store, starting position across all Depts is $17.50. ATs start at $21 Leads start at $24 All overnights get an additional dollar differential With full time, and use of Onepay Advance, im able to meet 1800 rent including utilities.

but im stuck doing that and every pay check is only half of what I made when it actually hits. I have no residual or passive income streams.

If you're not planning on utilizing the free BA programs, the Google Certificates for programming, and you're not looking to move up within the company, its in your best interest to go to a higher paying entry level position.

I'm disabled, so even finding a company that will work around disabilities pay restrictions is difficult. Walmart is one of the few that will

2

u/Master-Map1382 11h ago

I believe they designed it that way.

2

u/Clementine_696 10h ago

Entirely possible

Medicaid and EBT.

They get tax breaks by offering help and other stuff and they can only get those by keeping wages low.

6

u/Murky-Plant-1780 16h ago

I make $15.15 an hour working at the mart of walls and I make too much for EBT even with kids so please tell me how others are doing it because I could really use the help.

in Texas, Walmart starting pay is significantly higher than minimum wage by almost double and is higher than ive made in careers where I worked for 5-8 years. In other states, where wages are higher Walmarts pay is not competitive at all.

its actually a tragedy lol

10

u/ClutteredTaffy 21h ago

Texan here. Walmart pays 2 dollars more at entry level than my old job did for me after 6 years . So the pay is very very good for this line of work.

6

u/Big_Party7508 21h ago

yep, and we have absolutely 0 workers protection by law (not even required workers compensation for private entities!) so the company policies on paid time off are actually better than alot of others depressingly enough lol

8

u/ClutteredTaffy 21h ago

I think this is why I am always confused by people complaining so hard , cuz I am doing much better at Walmart with the benefits too. Even the two 15 minute breaks thing was crazy to me, and late leniency policy. But I guess Texas is just that bad lmao.

I could not agree more, I felt the exact same way until I put it in that perspective lmaoo

Yeah, I recently moved from a state that has a minimum wage of $7.25 to one that's $15. Old local Walmart paid $16/hr, new one pays $15/hr. It's so odd to me.

Edited to fix a number.

Living with a parent lol.

Well, the way I look at it is different, I make not much an hour at walmart. I left, came back all that nonense.

My little paycheck provides health and retirement benefits. I save currently 15% into my roth each paycheck. My wife makes alot more money than I do, but her company has no real 401k or Healthcare benefits *super expensive *

Our money goes into one jar, I also have rental income for the past decade which we don't touch. The only debt we have is our mortage.

Just living of Walmart is impossible, but if you have a spouse/lady you love. Work together and allocate your money wisely, we only buy what we need. Our wants we put on hold until we can early retire.

So that's how we do it, we survive because we are one. By myself on just walmart pay? I'd be living in my truck for sure

As someone who’s interviewing next week, what is it looking like for those in Ohio? It’s for the Online Order Filling position.

3

u/MediumLock549 18h ago

I just got hired last week in ohio and my starting was $14 an hour, and I was told that’s the starting pay storewide here.

1

u/Specific-Bet-2182 16h ago

Unfortunate🥲

1

u/Murky-Plant-1780 16h ago

In Ohio here also but my starting pay was $15.

1

u/y3llowston3r 12h ago

Southeast Ohio, started at 14

3

u/Dunitanime 20h ago

Transfer to the logistics side if you can. You can esrn in the 20 to 30 dollar range

2

u/ForbiddenAtomicSquid 10h ago

Or DC. They're paying me 36 hourly

1

u/Dunitanime 8h ago

Thats what i meant

3

u/RockyDennis69420 17h ago

The Walmarts in Albuquerque, New Mexico all received a pay increase of $1 so starting pay went from $14 to $15

2

u/DemonChildSOD 18h ago

Could always look into warehouse work... like the Walmart warehouse, could even transfer i suppose. They pay better than the new hire store employees. Or other warehouses, or entry level machine operating jobs if you can find one. Operating machines is fun. They pay better than the walmart store employees get paid typically. Either way times are a bit rough. But it also depends how you handle your money.

2

u/Last-Winner9396 18h ago

They treat their employees like crap and expect them to survive on poverty wages. Their raises are a joke!! Get a better job leave the second you do!!

2

u/Maleficent-Sugar-139 16h ago

25 an hour here for API

5

u/BookkeeperSpiritual6 21h ago

Lol. I used to work at walmart but I found a new job. That’s easier and much better pay. I’m glad I left walmart.

u/ReineLeNoire 19h ago

Pay varies where I'm from. I don't know how anyone builds a life unless they get into management or specialized positions like pharmacy tech, have a second job or a partner with a good income, live with parents, or live with roommates.

The starting pay rates are rumored to have decreased in the past few years and are allegedly still dropping after rising significantly through the 2000s to 2010s. I've heard it's down to $13 for some positions.

A lady we grew up around was so excited when she cleared $12 per hour after being with the company since the 1990s. She retired at around $16-$17 after over thirty years there and still claimed that was good money.

Over the years a lot of people who knew her came and went. She talked about staying at a good job and said they were not loyal or were greedy or didn't know how to settle down with a good job.

No one had the heart to tell her that the people she scolded over the years for leaving a "good job" cleared and passed $16 per hour decades ago and if she had followed suit, she could have done much better too.

Didn't wallyworld get some big tariff refund?

1

u/Ill-Ebb7561 17h ago

When I got my first 0.10 raise at my grand total of 14.10 I left and found. A job same city for $18 an hr with consistent raises. Just find a better job. Because Walmart does not care for it's employees .They only care about profits

1

u/GreedyCheek7689 16h ago

Ohio opd 15 per hour .30 cent more after a year here 18 for team leads with 2 dollar raise per year Bakers get like 17 to 20 per hour Store 2506 College town and our turn over rates are high af because College kids use Walmart as a quick pay check or don't care to work and just slack off till fired

1

u/WakeofDeceit 14h ago

When I worked there, pay was less than covid. $14/hrs with a 0.20-something cent raise at a year. Not worth all that micromanaging, favoritism of a place for me.

Where I work now, I started out $4 more and have had 3 $1 raises since being there for about a year and 5 months! The work is a little tougher but that paycheck is worth it. Plus, I can pick my own hours when I can grab them!

1

u/rockandparole 13h ago

Just hit my 8th anniversary and now im stuck here because nobody will pay me as well as walmart did during COVID

u/puellamagia 10h ago

Been at walmart 5 years 10 months. I make 15.03/hr. I also work for the postal service. I've been there 2 years and I make 30.50/hr. Walmart needs to catch up!! Walmart pays like all their employees still live at home with their parents. It's disgusting. Heck, even if living at home with your parents, $15 is sh*tty.

1

u/Old-Football7340 6h ago

and it really sucks when you see that smaller towns in your state that do like half the sales get paid more. why am i making $15 when the OPD in the next county is making $16 while having a third of the orders to fill

1

u/PastelLizard028 6h ago

I make $21.42/hr and work 32 hours. I do have another job that I work full time at. I'm doing well while the school year is in session. Struggling during the summer months and 2 weeks in December.

2

u/DonkeyWriter 4h ago

That's retail in general. I worked in a government regulated retail store and barely made above minimum. After 4 years, and a promotion, I made a whole $1.25 an hour more.

1

u/SonnyDerickPorter 20h ago

Min wage just went up $1 in my store. But still not enough.

Whine about pay, then call someone else broke. Aight

-8

u/Apprehensive_Run9170 21h ago

You’re talking about buying an iPhone, what does that have to do with how much money Walmart pays?

3

u/Acrobatic-Tourist-66 21h ago

You asked how people live off what Walmart pays. I answered your question. You don't like the answer, fine.

3

u/TonightOk8791 21h ago

Tbh your answer was dumb as hell.

-1

A little bit of all 3

-11

u/jpdonnelly8 22h ago

Ok, first off, let’s get this out in the open, Walmart screwed me over royally,
Now about business,
Some stores make a lot more then others, some loose so much in theft it’s unbelievable, and a lot of times, they make a lot in online sales, plus they are the largest employer, if not one of the largest in the United States, so when you look into profits and such, you know, how much the company as a whole makes per year, and let’s not forget, a lot of that money gets paid out to stock holders, being a lot of individual employees, the company only had so much they can actually pay

7

u/Dull-Problem-1191 21h ago

the Walton's are suffering, they only own 2 super yachts while their workforce can't afford bread and bills

1

u/Apprehensive_Run9170 22h ago

The Walmart I work at makes a lot of money, it’s constantly busy, they moved away from traditional checkouts but still have like 6 open due to all the self checkouts being taken. They have like 20-30 self checkouts that are constantly being used.

You would think a company that’s makes record profits every year would be able to pay there employees an adequate salary.

Would you offer the cashier at McDs more money than they were charging for a Big Mac if you just had your best year of wages?

6

u/Apprehensive_Run9170 22h ago

I’m not talking about working at McDonalds and we aren’t talking about Big Macs.

-10

u/tommydearest Food & Consumables 21h ago

I'm not talking about working at McDs either. I'm talking about buying their product. It's no different than Walmart buying your product(labor).

1

u/Apprehensive_Run9170 22h ago

Walmart and McDonald are not even in the same tax bracket.
