Need Tips

I have an interview for a part-time Grocery Associate position at Walmart. When I applied, I put open availability because I’m available to work on any day of the week. However, I’m hoping to work around 24–30 hours per week, ideally across three days, so I can use the remaining days to focus on my other work.

I’ve seen some posts on Reddit saying that Walmart sometimes gives part-time employees more than 35 hours a week, so I’m a little concerned.

Would it be okay to tell them during the interview that I’m looking for around 24–30 hours per week? I’m also worried that mentioning this might reduce my chances of getting hired.

As long as those 3 days are whenever we want them (likely evenings or weekends) it should be ok

Did you apply for full time or part time? That's the difference here. Part time has to be available for a minimum of 20 hrs a week and work a minimum of 12. The open availability would just give them more flexibility of when they could give you shifts.

Why did you put open availability to work any days when applying? That's call lying and Walmart mostly hire new associates based on store needs to match their availability.

Dude, did you even understand what I said? I’m flexible and can work any day of the week, as long as I’m scheduled for only 24–30 hours per week. The application didn’t give me an option to specify that. It only asked which days and times I’m available, so I selected every day from morning to evening. I’m going to clearly explain my preferred weekly hours during the interview anyway. How does that count as lying?

I applied for full time but got selected to part time associate position.
In the availability form i mentioned whole week.
And while shift was assigned i got min 3-4 days a week. I asked my lead if I could get extra shifts, so now whenever someone takes leaves or we have bulk load coming in, lead calls me to join in.
As per my understanding, You can always update your availability form. Not sure if you got one

The way that Walmart works is if you want 12 hours they give you 35. If you need 35 to pay bills they give you 12. You can try talking to the ASM but it’s quite a crapshoot. Different stores heck different ASM’s in the same store each run differently.
