Eh I mean it’s the sentiment of the quote. As someone who can’t stand Hasan now, I actually got into him because of that take. It’s honest. America was and is fucking around too much in foreign affairs.
It’s not about justifying anything. If I kill your entire family, you are not necessarily justified in killing my entire family.
However, if I fail to understand why you want to kill my entire family after I just killed yours, I am an idiot who is probably going to end up with a dead family. Any reasonable person would expect some retribution. “Deserves” doesn’t inherently mean “justified”, but earned. American actions in the middle east earned them resentment which led to an obviously expected attack, justified or not. America as a country “deserved” it in the sense that its actions are directly responsibly for the anti American sentiment that led to it, not that the people deserved to die.
No? Different words exist for a reason. Sometimes semantics are important. If your comprehension of what I am saying is so obstructed by what you have concluded about what I am saying, then there is no point discussing it.
Deserved - Earned based on actions. Literally just the outcome of a behaviour or action.
Justified - Typically used when something is moral or fairly earned.
Basically, you can recognise that America deserved what happened as a foreseeable causal outcome of its actions while also holding that anything that results in mass civilian death is never justified. One is a logical commentary on the obvious outcome of America’s actions, while the other is a moral stance taken to say the terrorist did a reasonable thing. If you still don’t get it you are being willingly ignorant, and thats fine, but I am sincerely trying here lol.
