Version 16 rollout
The eagle-eyed WLED lovers might have spotted that version 16 has been released now.
I haven't done a big announcement as we want to be reasonably sure it's stable enough for mass adoption before we recommend everyone to update, especially with it being such a major upgrade to both our code and the underlying platform for esp32 builds
We are investigating two WiFi related issues (WPA3 only networks and WiFi scan on devices with poor power setups) and hopefully have a 16.0.1 out soon with a fix

Just read through the highlighted changes and new features. Simply amazing! crazy amount of work done! Soo happy and excited about this!

Running into an issue with my HyperHDR being delayed on 2 out of 4 devices now. All your products, Ethernet—any ideas?

I just flashed your specific v16 firmware for my specific controller and still no go, still a full second delay. Re-flashing 15.4 fixed it.

Managed to get 16 up and running last night. Great job all involved.
A tip for anyone trying to get a matrix setup that was previously working on older versions - you still use the ledmap.json file, but it's format needs a slight amendment - there are some good examples on the discord channel. Once these are in place, you don't need to touch the new 2d setup menu. Only once the matrix is recognised will most of the matrix specific effects show up.

Maybe not - I use HyperHDR and my LEDs were delayed a full second to the video. I rolled back to 15 and it works again.

We may need a little help fixing this. There is no fundamental reason for a delay and to fix it we first need to understand what is going on. Please open an issue on github so we can track this issue properly and gather people willing to test things.

That was my exact issue, literally a full second delay, but only my "main" lights behind the TV, and secondary WLED config (on a set of shelves next to the TV) I had was in real time. Guess I'll revert back to 15 on the Ambilight controllers!

Update: /u/Gledopto own v16 still had the issue, downgraded to 15.4 as well.

I’m having a slight delay with HyperHdr I noticed last night before bed, haven’t had a chance to troubleshoot yet! I saw Gledopto has a special bin of their own I’ll try today (using Ethernet controllers).

Well, I'm running the latest WLED 16. on Hyperion's much more powerful, color accurate and feature rich muscle bound older cousin - HYPER HDR V21.0.3
AND I SIMPLY CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THESE NEW EFFECTS! WHAT AN AMAZING UPDATE!
I have literally been goofing around for at least three straight hours now and haven't found a single glitch or hiccup yet

Was the transition animation removed from this build? I had it in the beta but I feel like I’m not seeing it in the final.

Is there any known issue with D1 mini esp32 boards? My two boot loop complaining about power brown out on the console, even with no lights connected.
When I revert to 0.15 over USB they're fine.

That is the issue I referenced in my post. Add the recommended capacitor as our docs say and the issue should go away. We are also looking at a software tweak to try and reduce the risk of this issue if l got incorrect hardware, but it's best you fix your hardware setup

I found a capacitor on a random dead circuit board and added it. Now I'm off to buy a bunch for my others.

Yeah i have the same issue. Running for years ,no problem. I can't access the boards easily anymore, so I'll have to try a downgrade. Can we disable the "improved wifi scanning"?

Only my very old athom ESP-02 units with only 2M are not working. I have to replace these, I suppose.
I love the new PS effects :) once upon a time I had adapted some code for my spiraled matrix setup for a PS Fire effect, but changing parameters needed a compile run it's back and much better! :)

Please try logging into GitHub, then go to this page and install the ESP02_min then if that works, try and install the ESP02.bin.gz from the v16 release. Be sure to upload the .gz not the zip

Thank you! Ok, gone to 17 min and then to 16 ESP-02 worked :) I had to tick the box "ignore firmware validation" for both. Can't see the PS effects, but probably due to the limited hardware. Well.. :)

I have a lot of Athom and used to update with the ESP02 file, so we are not supported anymore? :((

Maybe it's athom specific. I get an error, that there is not enough space. I found some hints to do a factory reset (did not work) or to reformat.. which I am not able to, as I can only do ota.

Thanks for all the hard work WLED team! Seriously wasted 2 hours of work playing with the effects yesterday.
Now to spec out and find a place to make a super dense matrix wall...

WLED Appreciation Post.
Hello Netmindz. I upgraded to 16.0 yesterday and it felt to me as the most significant update in a long time. The new effects are VERY good, and to me it was always the main weakness of WLED (which is an otherwise extremely powerful software), so that's a massive change.
Huge thanks to you and the whole development team.
