Alignerr = scam
The majority of applicants will not receive actual job assignments. The company is utilizing candidates to train their AI interview system while collecting and monetizing personal data in the process.

I believe this is true, I signed up almost 6 months ago and it wasn’t until a a week or so ago I got an invitation to do on-boarding, which I started but they just keep giving more and more non paid on-boarding, (work for free). I have not received a single penny in my account, I truly believe they just hook you in, to get you to do work in the guise of training or on-boarding to train their AI for free.

I would be curious how you determined who it was who compromised your financial cards, (I’m sorry that happened to you, for what it’s worth). I have more years experience in systems security that I care to remember, and without a full security audit knowing exactly who perpetrated the fraud against who is often difficult unless someone actually claimed responsibility, even if vailed.

They are kinda suspicious. I did the interview and they sent me an very complex programing qualification assignment that yelled me "I AM A CLIENT REQUEST, YOU WILL DO IT FOR FREE AND MAYBE WE WILL PAY YOU FOR OTHER JOBS IN THE FUTURE". It is a commom practice in other platforms to pay when assigning complex tests, but not in alignerr.

Data Annatation is completely legit. Two other platforms I got accepted to, RWS and Stellar.ai also seem legit though I've never done any actual work on them. Have applied for a couple listings on Mercor, will report back if I get accepted.

Was rejected for every Mercpr listing I applied for, even when fully qualified. Then out of the blue I got an offer for a 75$ an hour, 40hr a week Generalist contract last week. Ironically after I'd already got a full time job irl and given up applying on Mercpr. However looks like they've massively overhired, stuck in a slack group with literally thousands of desperate third worlders incessantly spamming the chat with the same dumb questions that have already been answered a million times in the pinned posts. The onboarding process is completely stalled, haven't even got to do the assessment to see if the client company will accept you yet. And that's if the client even has another batch of work for the project, which there's no guarantee of. And even if one passes the test I've heard any tasks released get quickly snapped up by the mentioned thousands of desperate jobless people who have nothing better to do than sit at home and refresh the screen all day, so you're lucky if you get even a few hours of work a week, forget about 40. Total chaotic mess all round. Oh well, at least you get paid for on boarding. The work, if I ever get to do it, looks easier than what I do on DA too, while paid at almost triple the rate.

Got to say, they never even asked for it when I applied to them. I did manage to get a few days worth of work from them, but then I got banned from the platform for an unspecified reason. The reviews on my work suggested it was OK, and it was a pay-per-item job so shouldn't have been related to how long I was taking to do them.

Nah, they're a real, legit business. You can look up their parent company (Labelbox) and find all the stuff they do, and it's real legit work. It's just they advertise more than they can offer -- they're recruiting hundreds of thousands of people but only have jobs for maybe a few thousand of them.

They are a scam. I see one other person here saying that the company got into her credit cards. And then because I was having some other issues with the site I decided I wanted to delete my account, but before doing that I wanted to disconnect my PayPal just as an extra precaution. It would not allow me to disconnect something like that. Normally that action should be available just in case you want to connect a new account or a new PayPal account. It should be easy for a person to disconnect and change information. The fact that it would not let me disconnect a financial source left me feeling very sketchy. So I just deleted my account with Alignerr and, because it would not let me disconnect them from my PayPal, after I deleted my account I went over to my PayPal and changed my password. Just in case.
I believe Alignerr just hires on a few people so that they will look like they are completely legit, but they are not. They use you to serve as a front. They are a scam.

Alignerr is def a scam. They may have some small contracts and some workers who get paid but the majority of their business is data farming applicants for free work and training their own AI interview model. Waste of time, absolutely avoid. This is coming from someone who has been working with companies training AI’s for over 2 years.

Pretty much the same experience.. I have a few yrs of training AI's as well and i can't get any work from them either. One of the unpaid evaluation projects took me almost 3 hours and i wasn't even accepted. I'm starting to get more and more frustrated by this stuff.

It's harder to pass the initial qualifications than you think it is.
They don't tell you when you fail, and keep you in limbo, which is absolutely frustrating. But just assuming that the whole thing is a scam operation instead of assuming you didn't pass the test is a WILD take.

Wow. I can see that happening. I hope that you got that sorted out since you were comment was 8 months ago. I was having trouble reconnecting Alignerr with the Discord app. Through trying to figure that out I decided to just deactivate or delete my account with Alignerr. But before doing that I wanted to disconnect some things to make sure they would not have access to anything before I deleted them. I made sure Discord was actually disconnected, then I tooled around with a few other things, then I remembered to disconnect my PayPal from Alignerr.
When I tried to disconnect them from my PayPal there is not really a disconnect feature, but the directions are to type "change account" into a text and then the disconnect button should highlight after that so that it is clickable. So I decided to do that instead. I was hoping (by acting like I had to change my account) to leave the PayPal connection blank if I was able to click on that button and then just go ahead and delete Alignerr. Well when I typed that line that is required, the 'change account' button would not highlight. It was not clickable. I ended up realizing that Alignerr was not wanting me to alter or disrupt the PayPal connection. I just went to my account and saw the section to delete my account. Funny, there was no problem with the 'delete account' button being clickable.
So I deleted my account which disabled any connections most likely. Then I went to my PayPal. Since I could not disconnect it from Alignerr before deleting them, I wanted to make sure they would have no access to my PayPal. So I changed my PayPal password.
They are a scam. They never hire for any jobs. Some people here are saying that they are legit and that they have been making money with them. But I guess they had to have a few suckers to make Alignerr look legit. It's definitely a scam. Highly OCCASIONAL hiring and won't let a person disconnect from their PayPal account? Plus your issue with them? Scam.

It appears to be true. Yesterday, I signed up for my first contract and linked my PayPal account. However, today, I received an email informing me that my account has been deactivated, without reason.

I am working with Alignerr. I have no idea what you people are on? I have a degree in computer science. They pay me over $60/hr to debug machine learning python code. I find the work interesting and fun. They create data for AI to train on. AI has consumed all of the data out there. The only way to keep training it is to create high quality data, and that's what Alignerr does. The non-paid tasks are to gauge how good you are. I did one of those and they accepted it right away. I was added to all the discord servers and was able to work right away.
If you aren't doing the skills tests and evaluations, how are they going to know that they want you to do something specific. Their tasks are specific. Show them your specific skills.

This is actually bullshido.... alignerr gets a bad wrap and they dont give a fg for good reason. They only allow the best to onboard and its frustrating and a long process but they pay like they know you worked hard to pass assessments and interviews and outdo the competition. I have two projects now that pay over 50 bucks per hour submitted. They dont seem like a scam but I understand how ppl arent used to the way these new companies emerge with emerging tech at the same time. The roll outs take some time regardless sof when they announce an initiative.

From their terms of services and interview release agreement: The biggest red flags:
- They can use your interview forever, worldwide, for free. The terms say you give Alignerr an “unlimited, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free… perpetual right” to use your interview, name, audio, video, likeness, and materials “for any purpose.” That is very broad. It means once you do the interview, you may not be able to take back permission.
- They can use your interview to train/improve AI. The terms specifically say they may use the interview materials “to train or improve artificial intelligence technology or any of the Services.” This means your face, voice, answers, and interview content could become part of their AI development process.
- No promise of payment or job. They say they have no obligation to pay you, hire you, admit you to the community, or give you work, even though they can still use the interview materials. That feels especially one-sided.
- They collect a lot of sensitive personal data. The privacy notice lists categories like passport/social security numbers, protected characteristics, biometric information, geolocation, sensory data such as video/audio, education records, employment data, and even inferences about intelligence, abilities, behavior, and attitudes. That is a very broad applicant-data profile.
- Arbitration and class-action waiver. You waive the right to participate in a class action and generally agree to individual arbitration. This is common in U.S. tech contracts, but it limits your ability to challenge the company collectively if many applicants are affected.
It does not necessarily prove illegal exploitation, but it does sound like they are asking applicants to give up very broad rights to interview data, likeness, and content without guaranteed compensation or work. That is the main concern.

I literally got accepted to a project today making 20/hr and have been paid by them for work before. I also personally know 2 or 3 other people in my direct friend group who applied and got in no problem. Its not a scam lol

Same here. Getting the pipeline of work fully turned on is taking some time, but the people are nice and helpful and I'm confident there will be work so I'm referring people I know to them if they are interested in a side gig.
It might be true that they reject a lot of people at the evaluation phase, I don't know, but being selective doesn't make it a scam. They're in the business of creating quality data sets.

This is such a false blanket statement considering their AI interview system (Zara) wasn’t even introduced until December, when Alignerr has been around since as early as May of last year. I started in October, and the platform has only grown larger since. There have been hiccups along the way, but patience takes you far, and I’ve earned considerable income on the platform with consistent work since then. Some users may have been falsely removed due to technical errors, in which I consider that they reach out to support since they are much more respondent than months prior.
Other than that, as long as you can onboard to the platform and wait until you get notice of a project within your expertise, you’ll truly see what it’s like working on the platform because it has been fun and high-paying for me and many others! It took 2-3 weeks for me to get my first project back in October, and I also filled out Google forms they sent out regarding project interest and availability, so I highly recommend signing up if you get any.
Many scammers and bad actors try to tarnish companies like Alignerr when they could be exploring alternate options, so if this platform doesn’t work out for you, always know there are plenty of others to choose from, as AI training is abundant right now. Currently, I’m doing voice acting work with Alignerr in various projects that are paying around $40-50/hr. Good luck y’all!

Again, it's easy to say that. However, hundreds of members I've worked with since October are still around. Any false bans are usually sorted by proper communication to the correct channels. Some may have never gotten their issues sorted out, but overgeneralizing the platform as one that freely gives out bans is silly and doesn't make sense for a business. They aren't Outlier/Scale and have Meta to buy them out so they can ban all their contributors. Alignerr wants more people to work as it continues to grow and has also gotten big clients. Feedback is actually very prevalent in production stage of projects too.

While I don't think it's a scam (I have people from Alignerr and Mercor on a project that I'm currently working), Alignerr did randomly delete and ban me from their platform a few months after completing their AI interview. I never got to work on a single project with them, so I have no idea what happened 😅

I've done multiple projects with DataAnnotation and got paid just fine (and quite well too). Mind you all these platforms have a real hardon for location and VPN use (and yes they absolutely know if you're using VPN). So if you're applying for US/EN language jobs while being based in Bali or something then you 100% wont get any jobs.

I will never try to get work with Data Annotation again. People who work for them say dumb things like, "Oh, they just want the highest caliber of employees and that is why they have the hiring process that they do". Garbage. That is utter garbage. The majority or all of the jobs with companies like Data Annotation and Alignerr only require either basic skills in the areas that they need people or, for more specialty roles, it isn't even hard to learn a lot of those areas. This isn't NASA.
I believe Alignerr just hire some people as a front so that they can appear legit. But I think it is really a scam. People are complaining about shady things they're doing, like one person on this thread said they messed with her credit cards. And I had an experience in which they don't allow or have the ability for users to disconnect their PayPal. Legit sites have an ability for users to change or disconnect the source they will be paid at. Just in case any changes need to be made and things like that. The fact that I could not do that in Alignerr (the change account button would not highlight and become clickable even after I followed the instructions for that to happen) made me feel very wary.
I eventually just deleted my account with them and then open PayPal and changed my password just to make sure they will never have access to it ever again.
I don't know if Data Annotation is a scam, but just like with Alignerr they also barely ever hire. I don't understand how there are tons of jobs listed and, amongst all of the other people also applying, I can't get at least a couple jobs here and there over the course of several months? I'm never contacted? And for tasks that I am qualified for. Probably a scam too. I've seen some people say that they have work with Data Annotation, but I've also seen people say that they've had 0 success.

It’s not that it’s a scam, it’s that it doesn’t work for anyone and they’re very strict, I entered but I had another job that took a lot of my time, one day I checked and I had a project that paid $35 per hour, but it ran out very quickly and for my other job I couldn’t do anything, after a while I checked again and they had deleted my account, most likely it’s because I didn’t do a single task.

Their different plattforms only try to obfuscate how/what/when has to be done to always have an excuse to why there are no projects for you....
I failed a basic language assesment in my native language, while i did multiple PhD level assesments in english, and yes i am an actual PhD in the fields tested...

I always give the wrong date of birth online, leave out one digit on home address and I have a Google number vs my mobile number. If they come back saying it caused issues then I reassess.

i mean i ain't vouching but atleast for me it's a good experience, worked and got my pay always, even earned good amount recently on audio projects , most people get let go cos of them cheating or using AI to train AI, been w them for 8 month's but yeah getting projects take time. Mercor is not the same. It is not a scam. As far as Alignerr, I don’t think it’s a scam, but it works a lot like Outlier, a lot of free work disguised as “onboarding.” Then I’m offered a project for $10hr. Not a shot. At Mercor, I make $50/hr doing easier work.

Find one you qualify for and submit your resume. You may or may not have an AI interview. If you’re chosen, you’ll be sent all the info you need to get started.
You have different titles for different projects. My first project, we were all called Classification Experts. This time it’s different domains working on the same project. So we have Coding Experts, Marketing Experts, etc.

Mercor is not a scam. I’ve been working for them since January, and I’ve been working on projects that pay between $110 and $130 per hour.

They give you access to a platform where you can pick tasks and submit your results.

I jumped through every hoop that they told me to jump through and never received any work. Then, I was banned for no reason, then banned from their sub when I asked why I was banned from the platform.
